The Conifers was a cosy retreat at the end of the day spent exploring a hither too unknown area..

A delightful, clean, well equipped cottage in a very quiet location, but close to several towns for shopping and tourist days out.. Also very close to the Teesdale Way and some very pleasant walks along and above the river valley. Swaledale, Arkengarthdale and Upper Teesdale are also within easy driving distance for walks in wild country, where interesting traces of old lead mining are everywhere. A very enjoyable holiday, made better by excellent late season weather.

The cottage is very nice, spacious, warm and quiet.. Best of all, it is not in someone else's garden and has it's own private back garden It is located in a nice village with a pub just down the road and there is a lovely rambling path from the village. Ovington is quite well located to several National Trust properties including Fountains Abbey, Rievaulx, Gibbside, Ormsby Hall (a hidden gem) and Mount Grace Priory.

The Conifers is a nice little one-bedroomed cottage on the main road through the hamlet of Ovington.. It is all on the ground floor. It was very clean and the kitchen was well equipped. The hamlet was very quiet and well located for exploring the northern part of the Dales and towns like Richmond. It is about an hour's drive from places like Fountains Abbey, Hawes etc. The bed was firm but very comfortable. The shower was not as strong as we would have liked but adequate for the 3 days we were there. The TV was tiny by modern standards but a good selection of DVDs was available. The owners had kindly provided some milk and tea for our arrival. Parking is on the very quiet road outside the cottage. We counted 3 cars go past between 8am and 9am one morning!! The pub opposite is pleasant with decent beer and the owners are very friendly. It is not open every day. There is no shop in the hamlet.

From the photo I was expecting a smaller cottage, but it was surprisingly large and well equipped.. It was clean, comfortable and located in a quiet, small village with a friendly pub and the town of Barnard Castle is 15 minutes drive away and has everything you need. All in all one of the best cottages we’ve stayed in, highly recommended

The Conifers was in a peaceful village but with easy access to lots of places to visit.. Raby Castle, excellent; the Bird of Prey Centre at Walworth and the Organic shop & cafe and Roman site at Piercebridge all brilliant and close. Durham (45 mins away) worth a trip to Crook Hall on the edge of the city and the cathedral and surrounds all good. Take a ride over the dales to escape everyone else and be amazed at the space and beauty. "Hannah's meadow" near Hunderthwaite is a story worth visiting, especially early July when the wild flowers drift across the unspoiled meadow. We strongly recommend the cottage as a perfect place to be for a holiday.
