Holiday Rental Description

Holiday home
This 18th Century detached barn conversion features a wealth of original features, including oak beams, trusses and wall timbers. With an open-plan living area and French windows onto the courtyard, the property has a light and airy feel, offering all necessary modern facilities but is cosy enough for a quiet break for two. Set in a pretty countryside location, this property is perfect for walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers, and is close to all local amenities and activities.

Accomodation Details
All ground floor. One double bedroom with TV and en-suite (shower, basin & WC), exposed beams & French doors to courtyard. Open plan living area with fitted kitchen, dining area, sitting area with sofa bed, exposed beams & French doors to front courtyard.

Area
The small village of Billingsley is surrounded by beautiful Shropshire countryside and is just seven miles from Bridgnorth. In addition to lots of walking and cycling facilities, the region boasts a wealth of country parks, great houses, museums and picturesque villages. Visitors can enjoy a trip to the nearby town of Bridgnorth - winner of ‘Britain in Bloom' - which is composed of the High Town and the Low Town connected by winding streets and flights of steps. The town's Saturday street market provides an excellent chance to explore the impressive castle ruins or to take a ride on the funicular railway. This passes what Charles I called 'the finest view in all my kingdom'. With easy access to The Royal Air Force Museum, Ironbridge Gorge, and the towns of Shrewsbury and Ludlow, this is an ideal base for an enjoyable break.

Region
A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

August 2020
Perfect base for exploring the Shropshire countryside.. Comfortable, quiet and with everything you need to make it an easy stay.
Mrs Dear
August 2020
The cottage was a cosy, quiet hideaway for a couple.. It was well equipped and we had everything we needed. Although on a working farm we felt away from it all. The owners were very helpful and we found plenty to do without driving very far. We found a pleasant walk from the footpath on the farm to the Severn Valley Park, drove to Ironbridge for the museums, visited Dudmaston Hall grounds and Arley Arboretum, explored Brown Clee Hill and a circular walk from Benthall to Ironbridge. Came home feeling relaxed and rested.

If you don't mind driving down a stony farm track, this hidden gem, set in beautiful countryside, is the perfect place from which to explore the hills and valleys east and west of the River Severn..

It was very pokey and not what we expected from the pictures.. The bedroom was particularly cramped. The settee in the living area was unbearably uncomfortable and needs replacing.

The en-suite door was catching on the floor making it difficult to open/close.. Shower pressure very low Bedroom tv not working Very dusty gravel drive to property - car gets very dusty Courtyard required weeding Patio table/chairs poor quality Difficult to control water temperature in kitchen sink

The access to the cottage was down a rough road followed by an unbelievably rough lane.. We made sure we were home before dark as I would not have taken my car along it in the dark. Had I been aware of this access I would certainly not have booked this cottage. It was very remote and had few local amenities. Although the facilities on the whole were good and the overall cleanliness was of a high standard the sofa in the living area was well past it's sell by date and very uncomfortable. The outside seating needs replaced as it would not have enticed you to relax outdoors. The Owners were unfriendly, unhelpful, barely spoke to us on arrival and ignored us for the rest of our stay. This is the first time after numerous stays in cottages that we have had any complaint about the owners. Would we return to The Byre ....NO. Would we recommend anyone to book The Byre ...Only if they were driving a four by four and staying for only a couple of nights.

Very well thought out accommodation.. Very relaxing & peaceful. We felt it was very homely. There were lots of little extras. From here you can get to see many different places, which we did. Would I recommend it, very much so. A big thanks from us.

This was a wonderful rural retreat, could not have asked for better accommodation it completely exceeded our expectation and the finishing touches of what was provided was fantastic (right down to a teatowel and washing up liquid).. Now that we have discovered Sykes and the types of property available I don't think we ever want to stay in a hotel. It really was a wonderful break.

The Byre is the best holiday let I have stayed in: clean and comfortable, with a high standard of furniture and decor. The owner was very helpful. The immediate area has a lot lanes and footpaths to explore and the Severn Valley Railway is close by.

Needing somewhere to stay while vising family & friends in Shropshire, I was very lucky to find The Byre.. It was extremely clean and tidy, very comfortable and well equipped, quite the home away from home. No issues with WiFi, though mobile (EE) worked better outside. The property is on a working farm out in the beautiful Shropshire countryside. Plenty of places to visit and see in the area, though own transport is a must. The property owners live down the driveway, but let you have your privacy. However, they are lovely people and were very approachable and helpful in my experience. There are also some very friendly dogs on the farm. I highly recommend The Byre and I certainly hope to stay there again. I had a wonderful time!

Beautiful remote location on a farm without the usual smells !!! A converted old barn ---with all the amenities. Nice private outside sitting area. Only problem was no Wifi !!! I feel it is very much needed to look up local activities, weather etc so you can plan your days out.

This is a first class rental for two people. Extremely comfortable (wonderful sheets on the bed, duck down pillows) and very classy. Everything was good quality. We've stayed in many rental cottages and all too often you get the owner's 'cast offs' - not here! Clean, tastefully decorated, warm and cosy we found it was a great base to visit the Severn Valley Railway Gala. We can't comment on the walking etc as the SVR was our reason for visiting, but the countryside looked glorious. We will certainly visit again - for the next gala we come to.

The owners were nice and friendly and very helpful if you wanted to know anything about the surrounding areas and where to do sightseeing and places of interest to visit. The only drawback is that there was no shops nearby if you wanted to buy a newspaper or run out of milk or bread. Bridgenorth is the nearest town and it has some nice shops and tearooms.

This was our first stay with Sykes Cottages but we will use them again. We loved the property - it is a great conversion, very well equipped and comfortable. It is small but was absolutely fine for two people. The location is very quiet and relaxing - you need a car but you are then perfectly located to explore the area - and there is plenty to see - wildlife, historic sites and towns, walks, cycle rides. We thoroughly enjoyed our week.

The Byre, located on the owner's farm enjoys both privacy and seclusion. We stayed over for New Year during a spell of very cold weather but the accommodation was very cosy and warm. We had taken an electric fan heater as a precaution but we didn't need it. The standard of accommodation is excellent we were made very welcome by the owners. Would definitely recommend and may return one day.
