Property Description

Holiday home
This stone-built semi detached cottage is located on a working livestock farm in the rural hamlet of Milton, two miles from Brampton. Created from the careful conversion of an old dairy, this cottage has been tastefully decorated throughout with crooked beams, exposed stonework, a wood-burning stove and a fresh, modern kitchen. With accommodation all on one level, the spacious main bedroom comes with exposed beams, whilst outside, visitors can enjoy a decked area with countryside views. With so much to do in the surrounding area, this is an ideal property for a family trip or a vacation with friends.

Accomodation Details
All ground floor. Two bedrooms: 1 x king-size double, 1 x twin. Bathroom with bath, shower cubicle, basin, WC. Open plan living area with kitchen, dining area & sitting area with woodburner.

Area
Ideally placed for exploring northern Cumbria, the hamlet of Milton is close to all of the region's most popular attractions including Hadrians Wall, the Solway Firth coast and the Lake District National Park. The nearby market town of Brampton dates back to the Roman occupation, and shows evidence of attacks from Scottish border raiders and Jacobite uprisings. Apparently, the Scottish Bonnie Prince Charlie established his headquarters in one of the old buildings in Brampton, now a shop. Just a few miles away is Talkin Tarn Country Park, covering 180 acres - 65 of which make up the Tarn, a 10,000 year old glacial lake, fed by underwater springs. Slightly further south is Gelt Woods, an ancient forest along the banks of the River Gelt.

Region
Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

Amenities
Electric storage heaters with woodburner in sitting area. Electric oven & hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, TV, DVD, radio, stereo/CD, WiFi. Fuel, power & starter pack for woodburner inc. in rent, additional logs available (honesty box). Bed linen & towels inc. in rent. Cot & highchair available. Enclosed garden. Shared use (with seven other cottages on site) of summerhouse & hot tub all year round at £40 per week or £20 per short break, payable direct to owner on arrival (use is by direct arrangement with owner). Decked balcony area with furniture & BBQ. Ample off road parking. One well-behaved dog welcome at £10 per week. Sorry, no smoking. Shop & pub 2 miles. Note: There is a railway line approx 250 metres from the cottage some noise is audible when trains pass. Note: The Byre is accessed via 2 flights of approx 9 steps

Comfortable and convenient location with very hospitable host.. Well equipped and furnished. Lovely rural setting.

July 2020
The cottage was well equipped and spotlessly clean.. Beds were very comfortable and we especially appreciated the large fridge/ freezer as we did a lot of our own cooking given the current situation. The dishwasher was therefore also very welcome! Mabel made sure we were happy with everything and she gave some wonderful advice on where to visit locally. The location is also superb, we explored all around the Sollway Estuary both on the English and Scottish side and both Carlisle and Dumfries are easy drives from here. The nearby town of Brampton is also a delightful place. We look forward to coming back!

Very beautiful cottage we all loved it.. Very chilled out and loads to do inside cottage. Hot tub was great but could of been better if all jets worked. Other than that I couldn't complain. We will be returning

We really enjoyed our stay here, the owners were very helpful, giving some nice places to visit, where our puppy would enjoy a walk, and most likely go back!

We had a fantastic holiday weekend at this beautiful cottage.. The cottage itself was cosy, beautifully decorated, spotless clean and to top it all had a lovely wood burning fire. Fantastic location for exploring Hadrians Wall and Roman Ruins, and great walks for taking my dog Storm exploring. Will definitely be back next summer and might even try out the hot tub next time. Thank you for a wonderful weekend.

Just got back from a fabulous few days away at The Byre.. Easy to find and lots of parking available. We were shown straight to our cottage and the lady was very informative about the surrounding area and which places to visit. Cottage was lovely, clean and cosy. Perfect for dogs as the garden was very enclosed. We will definitely be back.
Mrs Nadin, July 2019
July 2019
Very comfortable, private and cosy cottage with enclosed garden which was great for our dog.. Location is fantastic for all things Hadrian's Wall, Carlisle and gorgeous countryside and there are plenty of other attractions if you get time. Would like to go back there again.

We loved it! Great location to head off to the rest of the Lakes and up to Scotland. Cottage is nice, clean and spacious. Having our own enclosed garden was perfect to our dog. Kitchen is well equipped. Owners were very helpful. We will be back next year! Good dining options within a few miles. WiFi is good, smart TV was a bonus.

Excellent cottage and facilities.. The pictures on the site do not really do it justice, the cottage was much larger and more attractive, inside and out, than we expected. The owners were really friendly and helpful and made us feel really welcome. The location is excellent for walking and history, Hadrians wall is almost on your doorstep and the surrounding countryside is really stunning. We would recommend the cottage and the location to anybody.

We loved our family (of four, kids 6 & 9 years) stay for three nights, cottage had everything we needed.. Cooked In two nights. Also used the hot tub, and although it is shared we had no difficulties using it and it was a lovely relaxing addition. The open fire was great, and the owners had stocked with plenty of wood, which lasted our stay. We also stayed with our two dogs (agreed by owner), the cottage was perfect for them as it had a secure garden. The rooms were very spacious. The only slight issue we had was that the toilet flush wasn’t working very well. Owners there to help if needed.

absolute waste of money arrived friday the 7th sep at 245 pm left 3pm,very dated cooker broken ceramic hob smashed corner, kickboards broken, kitchen hot tap didn't work, toilet flush broken, hadnt been cleaned for our arrival, the hot tub shows its sole for you in your own space but it is not it is in a small corner of the garden for all to use the owner told us there is normally a charge for the use but since the water jets dont work we could have it free, also the wooden summer house is riddled with damp floor covered in leaves, so this was very dissapeointng left and managed to get booked 20 mins further and this place was 10x better, would never ever recommend this to anyone

Would be nice to have a window that opens in the main open plan area of The Byre.. Otherwise the only option for ventilation is having the door open. The access to The Byre is not really suitable for people with mobility issues. Well equipped holiday home with the benefit of a full size bath and a separate shower.

The accommodation was fantastic, warm and comfortable.. The hot tub was amazingly hot and clean, we were in it every night, even the snow didn't put us off. There was lots to see and do in the area and a very good taxi service close to hand to take us back from being in the pub. We will be going back in the summer I hope.

Loved the wood burning stove and hot tub. The owner was lovely and welcoming and her knowledge of places of local interest was excellent. Cranstons in Brampton nearby was a first class butcher. His fillet steaks and duck breasts in spicy plum sauce were the best. We were very close to the hot tub and being in close proximity to Hadrian's Wall and the Lakes made it perfect place to stay.

We loved the fact that even though we managed to pick one of the worst weekends for weather, we still managed to have a lovely time. The log burner in the living room was lovely, and there is a new tv which accepts usb for films. Also next to the hot tub is a little hut, with jigsaws, dvd's and a cross trainer. We will definitely be returning
