Comfortable and clean cottage.. Good base for exploring the southern lakes with some lovely local walks too. Ideal for visiting Cartmel and Grange over Sands We had some rainy days while we were there but the cottage was still lovely to spend time in. The courtyard was ideal for spending peaceful time in - thoroughly recommend The Byre for a relaxing holiday

The Byre is a real treasure hidden in the midst of countryside yet close to major roads making it easy to visit many beautiful sites near by.. Cartmel is a couple of miles away with lots of great places to eat and explore. The property is lovely, and Sarah and Paul were really helpful and thoughtful. This was exactly what we needed and we hope to return again. Thanks for a fabulous fortnight!

My daughter and I enjoyed our short stay at The Byre, the instructions on how to find the cottage were clear and easy to follow.. The only thing missing that would have made our stay more comfortable would be instructions on how to use the heating and gas fire. We arrived at The Byre after a very wet day out feeling damp and cold, after some time I did manage to get the radiator working in the living room. I never did work out the gas fire! Also information on local amenities/shops etc would have been helpful.

I think you should make it clear that the nearest shop is in Cartmel which is 2 miles away, and the nearest pub is 1.. 5 miles away (up a steep hill if people are walking). The cottage itself and the area is beautiful and I couldn't have had a lovelier time I just think making the above clear will help people understand clearly the remoteness of it.

Perfect base to explore south lakes, 5 minutes away from the lovely village of Cartmel and 2 minutes access to the motor way.. Situated in the most peaceful, beautiful spot, couldn't ask for from owners. We're already looking to book again.

Fantastic location - just a five minute drive from Cartmel and some lovely short walks from the cottage itself.. The cottage was very spacious and comfy and had all the facilities we needed. Decent sized enclosed yard to the rear of the cottage, suitable to let your dog have some freedom. Well recommended.

The cottage was lovely and clean, much bigger than expected and a lovely unique lay out! It’s located in a great area for exploring, we only wish we had stayed longer than two nights. The shortbread and Prosecco on arrival was a lovely touch, bed comfy and shower amazing. Unfortunately didn’t meet hosts but overall 5* and would stay again!

This cottage is set In a really nice quiet country lane just 4 miles from the lake.. Its very spacious and has everything a family needs. We had a lovely time. If I had any criticism it would be that the bed mattress is very firm. Some prefer this but was a little too firm for us. Apart from that it was a very pleasant experience, its really clean and you couldn't really want for a better place to stay.
Mr Wood, August 2018
July 2018
Lovely cottage, very spacious and had everything we needed (board games, dvds, books, local maps and local restaurant information etc, tea and coffee and cleaning equipment, even dog treats! ). Patio garden is enclosed which is perfect for our sometimes anxious dog, and no escaping/ jumping over small walls as they are high enough. Location is out the way and quiet, but only a short drive away from local shops, pubs and walks! Would recommend, had a lovely chilled out holiday!

Perfect location to have a wonderful holiday in the southern area of the Lake District. The Byre is a lovely and cosy cottage. In a secluded and quiet spot it is a superb place to chill out with country lane walks nearby for our pet lab. Cartmel, Windermere, Hawkshead and Grange over Sands all short distances for our grandchildren to have fun. In particular, the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction (The Peter Rabbit Experience) at Bowness-on-Windermere is exceptional. There were several welcoming items (milk/biscuits/wine//dog treats) on arrival which were very much appreciated. This was our second visit to the Byre and it won't be our last when holidaying again in the Lake District. Lots to do and lots to see in this part of the world and the Byre is an excellent cottage to return to after a busy day whether you are walking, sightseeing or visiting attractions.

The cottage was better than expected, it seemed bigger than it was in the advert, plenty of space for the 4 of us and the dog.. Location was excellent just out the way, but close enough to get everywhere we wanted. Local facilities where good and in easy reach, excellent communication with the owners when needed. We had a lovely time and would definitely consider doing back. Thank you.

November 2017
The cottage is a secluded getaway, very romantic and so quiet - heaven! We loved our stay. The walk to Cartmel is long and difficult in the dark so we ended up driving mostly for evening meals. That said, we felt so relaxed and loved our stay so much, nothing could spoil the wonderful memories made.

We stayed here at the end of August with 2 children and our dog. The cottage is in a lovely peaceful spot with easy access to Cartmel & Grange Over Sands. The cottage is great and is lovely and quirky being on 3 floors. The enclosed back yard was perfect for our dog. There were some nice touches with biscuits, dog treats and elderflower cordial left on arrival. We have already recommended this to family and friends and would definitely stay here again. The beds were really comfy and plenty of towels etc.

I stayed here will my family at the end of July for a week. What a beautiful location. The cottage is larger than expected and very quirky. Set over three floors with beautiful exposed beams. The enclosed garden was perfect for our dog. The cottage was a perfect base for exploring the lakes and the village of Cartmel not too far away. We walked there on our last day and it took around 40 minutes which went very quickly whilst being entertained by spectacular views. I would highly recommend The Byre

In a very peaceful location within easy reach of the Lake Districts popular towns.. We have a dog so the walled and enclosed garden was particularly good for us. It was ideal for 2 people and a dog. There were good leaflets in the property for where to visit and details of local pubs/restaurants for evening meals, that were not too far away. Definitely worth a look as a cottage accommodation.

I stayed in this cottage at the beginning of July with my family and their young baby. The cottage is unique in that it is on 3 levels. It served our purposes well but we felt that more attention to detail would have scored this property much higher. The kitchen could have been better equipped and the property cleaned more thoroughly particularly the bathroom and kitchen. The cooker hood filters were very greasy and there were a lot of flies around and in the property which could be understood as it was adjacent to a farm. The twin beds in the ground floor bedroom were extremely hard and the springs could be felt through the mattress. Please be aware that the photos of the cottage on Trip Advisor are not all current. If the problems above were addressed I would have no hesitation in recommending this property to a friend. We all missed having access to Wi-Fi and the use of a washing machine. Perhaps not essentials for some people but desirable for us.

Arrived Here Fri 17th June for 1 Week Very Nice Cottage on 3 Levels,Very Clean & Spacious Had a problem with the electric cooker on the 1st night so the owner who lives next door cooked our tea for us Brand New Cooker in place by Sunday Morning Very Quiet area about 2 miles to Cartmel in the car 5-10 mins the only small problem we had was with Flies from the Monday,at some times there could be 10 -20 of the little buggers flying at you while you were eating or watching TV An Extra Large Can of Fly Spray and a good aim with a tea towel nearly sorted the problem We had great weather except for the Sunday and the Patio was great for sitting outside after walking round Cartmel Overall Very Nice & Relaxing(No Mobile Phone Coverage or WiFi thou)

We stayed at The Byre to celebrate my birthday, me, my partner, my parents and pooch. The weather was lovely and we were able to explore much of the lakes including Cartmel, Grange over Sands, Kendal, Hawkshead, Windermere and Coniston. The cottage is very spacious inside with beautiful high beam ceilings which is hard to capture in a photo. It was also immaculate yet cosy with beautiful fresh flowers upon arrival. The location is very tranquil and peaceful. I thoroughly enjoyed taking the pooch out for a morning run in the village down by St Peters Church watching the sun rise was beautiful the only noise was the sounds of birds chirping or an odd moo of a cow. Would highly recommend The Byre for a relaxing and cosy stay.

This is a semi-detached cottage which is absolutely stunning. Sarah certainly has thought of everything even down to little details. The cottage was well stocked which we weren't expecting but was glad of! The garden was well enclosed and was all patio-ed so no need to worry about muddy foot prints or paw prints. I stayed with my husband and our dog Odin, the enclosed garden meant that we could leave the door open while we were in so Odin could go out when he wanted without worrying that he would escape! There is no WIFI here and we couldn't get a phone signal, but, for me, this was perfect as it meant that my husband wasn't working the entire holiday so he was able to relax as much as me! The walk into Cartmel is about an hour away. We found a nice walk on a quiet road by going right out of the property, down the lane toward the church at the bottom, going left onto the busier road and then turning right just past a phone box and following signs to Wood Broughton. The walk is spectacular, the views are amazing and the road are quiet and safe which is excellent if you have dogs or children. There are so many beautiful walks you can do up bridlepaths and across fields! All in all we had a wonderful holiday in a beautiful rural cottage. Thank you Sarah, we will definitely come back again. The property was very roomy with pleasant and relaxing décor on all four different levels.. The kitchen was very well equipped including a simple but very efficient electric cooker. There were good views from the property and a pleasant paved and walled garden to the rear affording privacy and shelter when the weather required. The location was well suited for a holiday in the Lakes; especially the southern ones.

We went to The Byre to celebrate Christmas and it was an absolute dream! Tucked away on the country roads near Cartmel, The Byre was a beautiful and well kept cottage. My husband and I wanted a birthday weekend away for ourselves but somewhere we could bring our dog Billy. Great communication from Penny the owner about availability and rates and very helpful with directions to the property. Penny stayed up late to allow us to access the property. Beautiful cottage with enclosed yard which was perfect with the dog to allow him out and not having to worry about him running off. Next to Cartmel village which is a short drive away with dog friendly pubs, lovely little shops and great walks. I would highly recommend this property for its location in the lakes, how comfortable it is and the fact it is spotless and dog friendly.
