The Barn At Daldorch Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
The Barn at Daldorch is a semi-detached cottage on a working arable farm in the Ayrshire countryside, 4 miles from Mauchline. There is a double room with an en-suite shower room, and a twin room. There is a bathroom, a fitted kitchen with dining area and a sitting room with woodburning stove. Outside is ample off road parking, and a rear garden with furniture and BBQ. The Barn at Daldorch is a lovely family base for Ayrshire and its coastline.

The village of Mauchline sits peacefully in the lovely hills and countryside in an ideal spot for exploring the beautiful scenery of Ayrshire and the Isle of Arran. Mauchline is probably most famous for being the home of Robert Burns, who farmed in the area for many years and the house he shared with his wife Jean Amour, is now a museum and part of the Burns Trail. There are several golf courses including The Royal Troon close to the village. Culzean Castle is a magnificent National Trust for Scotland property and has been the principal seat of the Kennedy Family since 1759. The country park is 600 acres and has so many attractions for visitors to enjoy.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

Gas central heating with woodburning stove. Electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, TV with Freeview, DVD, WiFi, selection of books, games and DVDs. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Cot and highchair on request. Ample off road parking. Enclosed lawned rear garden with furniture and BBQ. One well-behaved dog welcome. Sorry, no smoking. March 2019
The contact from Sykes on the run up to the holiday was brilliant and having the app with all the information on hand was very easy too.. The cottage we rented was just lovely and every detail had been thought of by the owners which made our stay really special.
Mrs Ward
February 2019
Fantastic barn, as described - very clean, comfortable, and everything you could possibly need.. Owners nearby but not noticeably, just if you needed them. Everything in the barn was done to a very high standard and lots of little touches - everything for a breakfast on arrival, fresh flowers in the entrance hall. Would highly recommend

I work 5 months of the year and have done every year for 8 years now and this is the best holiday cottage I have stayed in so far.. ... Im so glad I found it. The owners have thought of everything, their attention to detail far surpasses anything I have ever experienced before. The Barn was immaculately clean, well thought out and kitted out to a very high spec. I wouldnt hesitate to come back and would recommend this to anyone. Owners were very discreet and respectful- but nearby if I needed anything. Lady owner bent over backwards to help me. Can not fault this accommodation. Sykes booking process was excellent also. A smooth and easy process and the girl who handled my booking was lovely. I could hear her smiling down the phone! Well done Sykes and well done The Barn at Daldorch.
Mr Ward

Great place to stay, luxury cottage with all the extras
Mr Adamson
December 2018
Linda and Bob are the perfect hosts the cottage never fails to exceed our expectations, it has everything you could possibly wish for and more.. We have been renting The Barn regularly for four years now and will continue to do so. A home away from home.
September 2018
My wife and I have recently returned from this wonderful property having spent a week taking in the calmness of the surroundings. The three-quarter of a mile drive in from the lane gives you an idea how quiet and remote this place is. The property in itself is truly wonderful. Nothing has been left to chance here. Every little detail has been well thought out. The home made goodies in the welcome pack on arrival was very much appreciated and very nice. We saw Deer and a Hare while we were there as well as the cattle in the fields. The owners, Linda and Bob were a very nice couple and were on hand if needed. This is a very nice location to visit other places in the area or just chill out and relax in The Barn. We would have no hesitation in recommending this beautiful property.
Mrs Hodgson
September 2018
Really lovely cottage.. Extremely cosy and in a lovely spot. We enjoyed our walks along the river and trips out. Sunday lunch at the Fairburn in Mauchline was very good too. Our second holiday with Sykes and so far we're very impressed.
Mrs Wood
September 2018

Mrs Breed
September 2018
Everything.. It is the most idylic place and the cottage is the best base you could wish for. The owners are such nice people and so helpful. To explorethe west coast I would highly recommend Daldorch. The butchers just up the road are fantastic with first class meat. We cant wait to go back to Daldorch for our third visit. Thankyou for making our holiday special. Josie and John Breed CAMBS

4th visit and it is always excellent.. Owners could not do more to deliver a true home from home.
Mr Goldsmith
June 2018
This was our 4th visit here.. It won't be our last. Cottage is still 5 star. It was wonderfully clean & superbly equipped as always. We loved our breakfast start up pack! The Wi-Fi is great, so you can keep in touch with the real world from this peaceful haven. The wonderful owners are close by, but are never intrusive. We strongly recommend the Barn at Daldorch.
Mrs Smith
May 2018
Simply top of the range with wonderful unobtrusive hosts.. Cannot praise it enough.
Mrs Kelly
May 2018
We were very lucky with wall to wall sunshine all week.. The barn was extremely well presented & can safely say it was one of the best holiday cottages we have ever had - Mr & Mrs Forbes had thought of everything. It was very clean & very comfortable. It was quite remote so you do need a car but the quietness was lovely - hearing the woodpeckers & birds & seeing deer on the field & the river to walk along was outstanding. Hubby did some fishing but no fish caught - unfortunately ! We will be going back when we can. If you want a good place to eat we can recommend the Chef Worldwide Buffet in Dundonald - it was very good - all you can eat - we had a 3 course meal plus unlimited soft drinks for £13 each ! Great holiday all round. Oh by the way the trip we took to the Isle of Arran was beautiful. If you can you must go.
Miss Simpson
May 2018
Absolutely beautiful property, Bob and Linda very helpful and pleasant.. Planning on taking my family up for a visit and a stay at Daldorc. Made lots of lovely memories with my mum and sisters as this is were my mums uncle use to live when it was a farm.
Mrs Baijal
April 2018
We had a wonderful break! Great location if you want to get away from it all and just chill. We were made most welcome, with Linda showing us around and making sure we knew how things worked. The cottage was very cosy and that was without using the log burner. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you would need - Linda had thought of everything, even down to dishwasher tablets, liquitabs for the washing machine and new dishcloths for the kitchen and separate colour coded ones for the bathrooms! There was plenty of information on all the local tourist attractions. Loved the welcome pack with homemade bread and marmalade, tea and coffee, and a nice surprise of fresh orange juice, milk and butter in the fridge. No expense was spared on the bed linen, towels and crockery. All in all I would highly recommend this accommodation.
Mr Vann
February 2018
Lovely homely feel very nice people everything provided EXCELLENT
Mr Horgan
December 2017
Bob and Linda welcomed us into their lovely property, making us feel at home immediately.. The barn itself was cosy, comfortable and well equipped (with many special extra touches) for a week away. Both of the owners made themselves available for any requests, whilst providing privacy. One of our party is a wheelchair user. We found the property suited to her needs, with enough space to get about. Despite being fairly isolated in location, the property is within driving distance of many interesting attractions. The owners provided detailed information of what’s in the local area, helping us to make plans. We will be coming back next year, hopefully during the spring. This was truly one of our best holidays - thank you, Linda and Bob.
September 2017
This property is truly well worth the cost, it is in a good location for many of the attractions of South West Scotland, Ayrshire and the Isle of Arran. The location of the property is somewhat secluded down a track but it is such a tranquil location surrounded by fields and the River Ayr. The owners Linda and Bob Forbes live on site but apart from the most friendliest of greetings you seldom see them but they are always available if required. The Barn is extremely comfortable, it is in superb condition with all the modern appliances one would require, there is Wifi which is reliable and adequate for most peoples needs ( you are, after all , on holiday !) The family bathroom and en-suite are very spacious both having large walk in showers with a powerful water flow. On arrival you will find Linda and Bob have provided a jar of homemade marmalade, a home made loaf, eggs, fruit and milk for you to have as they say " breakfast on them" We would not hesitate to return and neither would our dog Molly who loved the place even though she was wary of the cows that are in some of the fields. So if you are looking for a holiday cottage in this area then The Barn should be your number one choice. There is also another property on the site, The Stables , which from what the occupants told us is just as well appointed as The Barn.
Mr Hatton
September 2017
The Barn was immaculate as usual, this was our third visit and we would recommend it to anyone, especially anyone with mobility problems..
September 2017
The cottage was immaculate and very well maintained, it had everything we could have wanted and more! Very impressed with our first sykes booking!

February 2017
Great accommodation and lovely hosts..
November 2016
The Barn at Daldorch is an idyllic place to stay when visiting Ayrshire. It is quite comfortable and the amenities are top-notch. The hosts could not be more gracious and friendly. The views around the Barn at Doldorch are gorgeous. The River Ayr runs nearby and the flowing water can be heard through the copse that forms the edge of the property. In the front are hedge-bordered fields with grazing livestock, fat pheasants, soaring eagles and several other wild birds for visitors to watch.
Mrs Coulson
July 2016
This cottage is of an extremely high standard with touches that make it feel more like a home than a holiday cottage. The location is very rural, 2 miles from the main road, so it was very quiet. Weather permitting the garden is an ideal place for relaxing and eating in the garden.
Ms Maxwell
July 2016
The Barn at Daldorch is a lovely cottage, in a lovely quiet area. Everything you need is supplied. All furnishings are excellent.
Mrs Long
July 2016
The house was immaculate, everything in it was well thought out and of top quality, a real home from home - if my home was as nice. Loved the walks along the river behind the house, they were perfect for wearing out a husband and a lively spaniel! A wonderful location to explore the beautiful countryside. This was our first visit to Scotland, there is so much to do we will have to come back!
Mr Love
June 2016
The property is ideally located for access to countryside and coast. Peaceful and relaxing with wonderful scenery all around. We had a lovely holiday and the property was truly amazing,5 stars and more. Highly recommended.

June 2016
We liked the outstanding accommodation and the wonderful hosts. This is a very beautiful location with direct access to the source to coast river path. There are many good pubs which are dog friendly and close proximity to the coast for fabulous beach walks, our dog had a great time, as did we.
April 2016
A great location, a friendly welcome and excellent facilities of a high standard. It was a comfortable, warm, cosy cottage within reach of all major facilities.
Mrs Schofield
March 2016
This was our second visit to The Barn and we'll certainly be back again. It ticks all the boxes for our perfect holiday. The cottage is immaculate, and surrounded by green fields, ensuring a very restful and peaceful time there. The owners pull out all the stops to ensure their guests have a comfortable stay.

September 2015
This was an excellent property, one of the best we've stayed in. Loved being up a quiet lane in the middle of nowhere with the river a 2 minute walk away. Enjoyed the dippers, heron and ducks on the river and sitting in the garden with a glass of wine watching the family of buzzards.
Miss Taylor

Mr Goldsmith
July 2015
The very comfortable and well maintained cottage had everything the discerning holiday maker would need. The quality of everything in or around the cottage was superb. The owners were really friendly and available if needed.
July 2015
This was our 2nd visit here, & we were pleased to stay again. Everything in or around the cottage is of superb quality, all of which adds to your comfort. Seclusion is a big bonus here, but shops, restaurants & takeaway outlets are all within 10 minutes. Ayr with it's large shops other attractions is about 20 minutes away. Troon & Turnberry are easily reached from here, so for us golfers "The Barn" is a great base.
Mr Balfour
June 2015

The cottage was luxury, this cottage made our holiday. The owners were very helpful and they suggested places to visit. You show The Barn with 4 Ticks, my Wife and I think it should be 5 Ticks. Once again to the owners and Sykes, thanks for a smashing cottage.

October 2014
We have just had a wonderful week in Daldorch. The cottage was exceptional. The hosts welcoming and very helpful. The cottage itself was beautiful and equipped with everything you could ever need. Situated in a little valley on the banks of the river Ayr, surounded by farmland, it was perfect. Well away from roads and traffic noise. The area has so much to see and do, but it's impossible to do it all in one week. So we will be returning next year. The owner is converting the stables into another cottage so it would be lovely to try that. A fantastic, relaxing week.
Mrs Hamblin
October 2014
The cottage was very homely, had lots of space for six people and the surrounding countryside was beautiful.
Mrs Thomas
September 2014
We would definitely go back to The Barn. The overall holiday cottage was of an excellent standard. We could not find one thing wrong. The surroundings were lovely and peaceful but only a short distance from all amenities. The owners were very welcoming, but not intrusive. A credit to their hard work.

It was one of the best accommodations we have ever stayed in. It was like a five star hotel but with the freedom to do as you please. We had our baby grandaughter with us and felt completely at ease with her crawling around as it was so clean. Can't wait to return sometime.
Mr Ridgway
September 2014
The cottage was decorated to a high standard and was very comfortable, the owners were very friendly hosts and the welcome pack was a nice touch (especially the home baked bread and homemade marmalade). We have stayed in several Sykes cottages over the years and this was the best.

Bed mattresses comfiest I have ever slept in in a holiday home. The welcome tray of breakfast goodies was such a lovely touch.
August 2014
The cottage was excellent and the owner very helpful but un- intrusive. All of the furniture and fittings were quality, spotlessly clean and worked as intended. The cottage is 50 yards from the river, with a footpath leading both. up and down stream. My wife, I and our Grandson would certainly recommend this cottage

The cottage was superb and it was a delight to return to it each afternoon. It was ideal for my elderly parents, one of whom has mobility problems requiring a walker. The setting was quiet and peaceful allowing us all to relax and unwind, but with interesting places to visit within easy reach. There are a number of National Trust for Scotland places within a short drive, all of which are interesting and we found we wanted to spend lots of time exploring them. We will be happy to return to this cottage again

Mr Chapman
September 2013
We were welcomed by the owner and extremely impressed by the overall condition of the property, it was top notch. Furthermore it is the cleanest property we have stayed in, my wife commented that it was the first time we had stayed anywhere where she did not feel that she had to wash up cutlery etc. All towels and bed linen were excellent quality, and made everything cosy and this continued through to all furnishings, kitchenware etc. What more can we say, other than thank you to the owners and Sykes. Perfect!
September 2013
This was an excellent holiday cottage in a peaceful location but close to many attractions and towns. The cottage is of a very high standard with lots of extras and personal touches e.g.fresh flowers and food hamper, very friendly owners. Would recommend.
Mr Mrs Mellis
August 2013
We have been using self catering properties for 10 years now and The Barn has to be the best cottage we have ever stayed at! The decoration was clean and fresh looking. Standards in every room were spot on. Lovely surrounding and area, well away from main roads and such. Even a nearby river which you could get a permit for fishing from the owners which we did.
Satisfied of Mansfield
August 2013
A wonderful cottage in an exceptional location. Well off the main roads this is a quiet spot in which to stay. Excellent facilities in a very well maintained cottage. A private garden. Close to the River ayr path. Good jumping off point for all things ayr. And if you're into Burns this is the right place to be.
Mr Reid
July 2013
Cottage was real home from home, very luxurious and had absolutely everything for a really relaxing, chilling holiday. The cottage was absolutly spotlesly clean,a real credit to the owners. Surrounding area was great for walking, espeacially the walk along the river Ayr.
Mrs Kim Hamblin
June 2013
Loved the property and the area was beautiful. The welcome pack was a great surprise and we had everything you needed it was like a home-from-home. Also the owners were very friendly. Would love to stay longer next time we book!
Mr Ulyatt
June 2013
The cottage was completed with top spec fittings and furnishings and was a pleasure to spend time in. We relaxed immediately as it was so homely with lovely fitted carpets throughout, which I find so important. A lovely tray of food essentials kindly waiting on our arrival and fresh flowers. Also the bathrooms were stocked with shower gel and shampoo and the kitchen with the necessaries for the dishwasher and washing machine. Lovely owners, a pleasure to meet. Great area with lots to see and do. Our dog loved the beaches.
June 2013
Stayed here the first week of June to visit family near by. Property is beautiful kitchen, living room and bathroom are to a very high standard. Very clean and we also received a lovely welcome pack which was a great surprise as we traveled from Norfolk. Area and views were stunning and a nice walks to take by the river. Garden and BBQ area was prefect for a sunny afternoon. The property was very large and was a great size with all five of us staying, the owners were lovely and very kind. I would recommend this to others and would stay again in the future as it felt like a home from home.
June 2013
This cottage holiday could suit everyone. A romantic break in the countryside for young or old. Beautifully equipped with lots of homely touches. Very clean and up to date - recycling encouraged, didn't seem to lack anything. Access to 40 miles of riverside walks - fishing can be arranged through the owner. The enclosed garden has seating area and lovely views. My teenagers loved the countryside and it's not far from the coastal town of ayr. There are good tourist attractions nearby, Castles, beaches, islands and the town itself has all the amenities you would want. A car is essential as the cottage is situated in a rural area a short drive from town. We all loved it so much and will return in the future. This was affordable luxury and a real treat. Once again can't thank the owner's enough for all the small touches that made this so special.
Mrs Cameron
May 2013
The Barn was the best holiday home we have stayed in. Everything about it was perfect, lovely touches like fresh flowers and a home made bread and marmalade. Lovely setting in rolling farm land and close to the river Ayr. Ideal for dog walking. If the weather had been better we would have made good use of the pretty garden with its furniture and barbecue area.
Mr Martin
May 2013
Everything about this cottage was truly outstanding. We've been going to cottages in Scotland for 10 years and this one was the best in every way. 10 out of 10.
Mrs Wilks
April 2013
I can honestly say I couldn't fault this holiday, very welcoming on arrival and the standard of cleanliness and furnishing in the property were on par with a good hotel. Welcome package of freshly baked bread, homemade marmalade, butter and eggs left on the table, along with fresh cut flowers in the hall kitchen. So well thought out, I could have packed my bags and moved in without changing a thing. If you want somewhere quiet, this is definitely the place to stay, only sounds you hear are the nearby river and owls at night, yet only 2 miles from the nearest town. Would definitely recommend this to family and friends, even my 2 dogs were made very welcome!
Miss Millar
April 2013
A welcoming cottage of a high standard throughout. Ideal for peace and quiet.
Wendy Long
April 2013
The Barn far exceeded our expectations. 5 star finish & fittings. Very clean, comfortable & peaceful. A lovely welcome from the owner & then left alone but there if we had needed them, which we didn't. The welcome tray was a lovely touch and a nice surprise. Location was excellent, very tranquil but not far from all required amenities. We only stayed a few days and have family living close by which was the reason for our visit but if we had been on holiday and doing the tourist thing then the Barn would be a delight to come home to at the end of the day. We have no problem recommending the Barn to friends and family & no doubt we will use it again in the future.
Mrs Whitehurst
February 2013
We were very impressed with the standard of the property. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We felt spoilt. We will recommend to all our friends.
Mrs Long
February 2013
We booked The Barn for 3 nights for it's location. The property was 5 star and in a very peaceful spot, it far exceeded our expectations. The welcome pack was unexpected for a 3 night stay but very much appreciated. The owners were very welcoming, there if you needed them, totally invisible if you didn't. Everything you need more is catered for. The wood burner was lovely but The Barn is very cosy and warm anyway. We would have no reservations at all about recommending this property to anyone who asked.
Mr Howghton
October 2012
We have had many Cottage Holidays over the past 10 years and the quality of this property was way ahead of any other at which we have stayed. In fact it was perfect and in an ideal situation which only served to make our appreciation the greater.
Mr Jenkins
October 2012

Mrs Hynd
August 2012
Our cottage was ideal for exploring the surrounding area. Situated in a quiet, remote position, the cleanliness and amenities could not be faulted. We would love to stay in this beautiful cottage again!
August 2012
What a beautiful cottage. Set in idylic surroundings, The Barn is just perfect as a base for exploring the surrounding attractions and wonderful scenery. A real home from home with everything to hand, we settled in immediately. I was visitng Ayrshire with my elderly parents and the cottage was immaculate when we arrived. We were met by the owners who were extremely friendly and helpful. Mind you, despite living next door, we didn't see them again until just before we left! They were there however if we'd needed anything - which we didn't. Lots to see in the area and a pleasure to return to the tranquility of The Barn with its enclosed garden, flatscreen TVs and Wi-Fi. Glass of wine inside or out, depending on the weather. What more could you possibly want???
Mrs French
July 2012
The Barn was in a remote and quiet area - just what we wanted.
Ms Salveta
July 2012
An absolutely beautiful house - the kitchen and especially the two bathrooms were stunning. A beautiful welcome tray with the most delicious home-made bread was there on our arrival and the owners were as helpful as we wanted without being intrusive in any way. The setting is beautiful and quiet but within easy driving distance of many places of interest. Even although the weather was not hot nor sunny we had a very enjoyable time. I would certainly come back for another holiday and would love to live there full time!
Mr Goldsmith
July 2012
The Barn at Daldorch was a delight to stay in and exceeding our every expectation! It is more 5* hotel than a country cottage. Very secluded peaceful but also central to all that Ayrshire has to offer. Shopping, bar food take aways are barely 10 minutes away. Also, the lovely owners left us a comprehensive starter pack which was greatly appreciated.
Mrs Rennie
July 2012
Being new everything is in very good order but the layout and personal touches by the owners makes it one of the very best we have seen. A visit to Dumfries House is a must also Falford Inn for bar meals (welcome dogs!)
July 2012
We loved our stay in The Barn at Daldorch! The barn is a delight to behold. Bathrooms & kitchen are superb, whilst the bedrooms & lounge are extremely comfortable. The quality of all fixtures & fittings make the Barn a real home from home. The location is very tranquil & secluded, though everything you need is close at hand. Bar meals, take aways & shopping are barely 10 minutes away. Ayrshire & Ayr itself are easily accessable from the Barn. We saw the lovely owners occasionally, but we were left as much to ourselves as we wanted to be. We arrived to find a comprehensive pack in the kitchen, so don't worry about your first breakfast. It's on the house
Mrs Lewis
June 2012
A tranquil location in the countryside but also a good base for touring Ayrshire.

First impression - wow! Having stayed there for 3 days - Idyllic! Knowing it was recently refurbished for holiday lets, we expected it to be fresh and clean but were blown away by how luxurious it felt. The quality is on par with a good quality hotel but the finishing touches give it a lovely homely feel. The rooms are spacious and there is a lovely fenced garden area which our toddler enjoyed running around. The kitchen is the best equipped I have ever seen in a holiday let and the generous welcome pack let us settle straight in without wondering where to get the basics. The setting is beautiful too, set in a valley between farmland and forest. It feels remote as, apart from the owners house, there are no other properties in sight. However, within a few minutes, you can be on a main road on your way to the many attractions in the area. Really loved this place and the friendly owners really seem to have thought of everything.
