Well situated to explore Shropshire and Welsh borders.. In a quiet hamlet with walks and cycle rides from the door. Well equipped and the 2 en-suite bathrooms a real bonus. Helpful hosts who accommodated our needs.

The Barley Store is a very well equipped apartment with loads of character. It is well placed to enjoy and explore the beautiful countryside around this part of Shropshire. My only reservation in recommending the apartment is the restricted head room due to the beams. If you are over 5'8" tall, as I am, your stay is likely to be a painful experience.

The Barley Store a beautiful conversion of a Grade II listed building into a self catering apartment with two bedrooms (1 double, 1 two singles). The Grade II meant they had to keep a number of features, but this has been done so well that you love the feel. Wood beams and partions have been left exposed so that there in in effect an open plan between the modern kitchen (dish washer, oven, microwave, sink, fridge, etc) and the living room and there's a lot of attention to detail (eg a corner cupboard space has 's' shape cupboard racks that pull out completely to give full access to the contents). Both bedrooms are en-suite with showers. There's also a shared utility room with The Gallary apartment above with additional freezer space, washing machine and dryer (almost essential when travelling with young children). The hosts also obligingly left in the utility room a collection of toys suitable for toddlers and children which our two didn't hesitate to take advantage of once they knew they were there. The windows also had deep sills which our two young boys (3 & 6) loved to sit on and look out or do some drawing. And the place, effectively being down a quiet country lane (effectively a no through road) meant they could play/cycle/scoot in the road without us having to worry about their safety. The hosts Pat & Gary are very obliging and ready to help. We discovered Shropshire as a very under rated holiday location and it's still relatively unspolit by tourist traps. The Shropshire hills and countryside around is beautiful and there's plenty to do and see within a short driving distance such as the scenic and natural playground of Carding Mill Valley (National Trust). Where daming streams, pond dipping, and sliding down the grassy banks along with leisurely walks in beautiful surrounds is actually encouraged. The well preserved Stokesay Castle is just down the road, as is Ludlow and Ludlow Castle. Also great for exploring with children. Acton Scott Farm, a historical working farm is also a good visit. Plenty to do... and Iron Bridge gorge is less than an hour away. Certainly would return. The only downside of the place is if you are taller than 5'7" (170cm). There are a number of low beams. You soon learn to duck! and/or walk slightly stooped. The most offending ones are just within the front door and the kitchen, which means because you are concentrating on other things, eg yourself and children coming into the house or if you are the one doing the cooking, you don't always remember to duck :-)
