The pretty village of Bucknell nestles in the beautiful valley of the River Teme in South Shropshire, close to the borders of Wales and Herefordshire. The Heart of Wales Railway has a station in the village and to the south are the black and white villages of North Herefordshire with their cider orchards. Bucknell offers one pub serving food, whilst the nearby market towns of Craven Arms and Knighton offer a full range of amenities.

The owners were very friendly.. They gave useful information on places to visit.

We stayed here at the end of August 2020, we wanted somewhere where we could switch off and get away from it all. And this lovely barn conversion did exactly that. It was immaculately presented, impeccably clean, warm and cozy and perfect for our family. The field was brilliant for bunny and squirrel spotting and our youngest enjoyed the swings. Sometimes it's the simple things that bring the most enjoyment. Highly recommended.

We were concerned to book a holiday during the Covid-19 pandemic but this cottage was beautifully clean and felt very safe.. The location was perfect, away from busy areas, surrounded by wildlife and we were able to get WiFi from the shepherds hut. We would definitely recommend to others.

The owners Sam and June were very likeable and helpful - gave us lots of ideas for days out.. The cottage was spotlessly clean, well equipped and comfortable. Even though the weather was a little on the wet side we still enjoyed our visit and would thoroughly recommend it.

This has to be the cleanest, well equipt holiday cottage we have stayed in.. It was a lovely quiet site in a lovely area with lots of fun things to so both in England and Wales.

The landlord Sam was extremely helpful, laid back and friendly! The cottage had been converted from a barn to an extremely high standard and was fantastically furnished and equipped. The beds were very comfortable andcthete was plenty of hot water although because of the height above sea level water pressure on the showers was low but not a major problem. There was plenty of tourist information booklets and leaflets in the cottage and information about places to eat. The Baron at Bucknell had a great ambience and the food was good and not overly expensive. The surrounding area was beautiful but beware of kamikaze birds and even deer appearing suddenly from the hedges as you drive up or down the narrow road from Bucknell! We would recommend the cottage to anyone. It was superb - but no Wi-Fi access or mobile reception because of the surrounding hills - great to get away from it all!!

Well equipped, cosy everything we needed even had the cottage decorated with a Christmas tree.. Very helpful owners if required. Away from it all, no wi fi no Mobile signal , gave us a peaceful time no interruptions. The owners did have a resource centre in the Freight Carriage painted decorated and heated. Good resources of maps brochures and a payphone available. Thank you so much, have just booked another Sykes cottage for this Autumn.

The cottage was really peaceful and quiet.. The surrounding countryside was really pretty and the walking potential was great. The little play area was a great idea and the children in our party really loved it. Our hosts were friendly and on hand if required but have also perfected the art of giving you plenty of freedom and space to enjoy your break. We really enjoyed our time here.

June 2014
The cottage was absolutely spotlessly clean - in fact cleaner than I have ever experienced in a similar situation. The owners were a delight and the contents of the kitchen were very thoughtful. We managed to be quite ambitious with our catering for the whole family as quite simply we had the confidence that we would find everything we needed in order to prepare the meals. The area is of course absolutely beautiful.

We stayed here while visiting family nearby. It is a beautiful conversion with all the equipment you would need and more, and space for us to welcome visitors. There are some lovely touches like the kids playground, toys for kids, phone box with great maps and local info, and the owners are on hand if you need them. Would recommend to anyone wanting a real country break with luxury!

We were warmly welcomed by Sam with a bottle of wine and a lovely plate of homemade mince pies - a nice start to our festivities. The barns are of outstanding cleanliness and quality in a superb walking area. We had a great christmas in this comfortable, well appointed home. Local area tips were plentiful and very helpful from our host for whom nothing was too much trouble.Being keen walkers the brilliant walking area was just what we wanted. The only gripes we had were the lack of vital information given to us by Sykes! Our party journeyed in two parts in very snowy conditions and we had major problems when the first arrivals could not contact the others to warn them of the adverse state of the local road due to lack of phone signal which was never mentioned by the company. We took half an hour to get up the single track road which was very steep and covered in a sheet of ice - yet again no warning that a 4 wheel drive vehicle may be needed. The owners did all they could do to help, but we felt let down by the infomation Sykes had provided. Thankfully we were fit enough to push our large car full of Christmas fare up the hill, anyone with health problems would not have coped.
