We really enjoyed our stay in Summerfield lodge.. The location is perfect and Barbara and her family could not have been nicer. Very welcoming and gave us some great tips on restaurants and things to do. Youghal is a gorgeous town and a great base to tour East Cork and Waterford. Would definitely return.

The cottage is always clean and tidy when we go to Summerfield Lodge and always has a great welcome awaiting from Barbara.. Even though it was cold outside the lodge was really warm and stayed that way all week. A great place to make as a start touring or just stay in Youghal as there is always plenty going on, even on the bus route to Cork and Waterford. Great stay and we have USED IT FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS or more.

This little gem of a lodge is a perfect base for two when exploring the south of Ireland - a well connected spot, with Youghal itself an interesting wee seaside town.. The long beach and boardwalk are excellent for bracing daily walks to prepare for sampling the many restaurants offering good hearty Irish produce! We had a great time here. The lodge is carefully decorated in a modern style with muted colours and relaxing ambience. Everything I wanted was in the kitchen - from a garlic press to a potato masher - and all the basics were in stock ; oil, salt, pepper ketchup etc. There was even washing powder and conditioner for the washing machine. This attention to detail made the Lodge stand out amongst others we have visited. Additionally, there is good mobile reception and dependable wi-fi - not always the norm in Irish cottages! We were warm and cosy sitting at the table in the picture windows enjoying the most fantastic views out to the sweeping bay, with gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. The owners made us very welcome, and were close if needed but never intrusive. Barbara’s gift basket of scones, butter and jam laid out for our arrival set the tone for how warm and welcoming we found this place. A fabulous holiday lodge!

Always welcomed at the cottage and met with scones and jam, the only dampener was the weather but at this time of year you cannot expect much better, but still managed to get most things done..

This cottage was perfect for us.. Barbara provided many thoughtful touches including fresh flowers, homemade scones on arrival and plenty of local knowledge to keep us busy. We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, and were only a short drive from the lovely village of Youghal.

We enjoyed the proximity of the property to the beach .. The proprietors Barbara and Peter Murray were very welcoming and can't do enough for their guests . There's a pub called Farrells next to the guest house with the the most welcoming staff and customers . The town of Youghal is a very pleasant walk or drive from the guest house . It has wonderful cafés, restaurants and pubs and is steeped in history . I would recommend a visit to the medieval church and gardens . We will make a return visit very soon .

In my opinion the way the cottage was portrayed on your website was misleading.. It gives the impression of a decent sized open plan kitchen/lounge when in fact it is absolutely tiny. The 15" screen television is wall mounted nearly at ceiling height and the sound was poor. There were cobwebs throughout the cottage. The cleanliness of the "ensuite" shower and toilet was of a very poor standard. The floor was filthy, the shower screens and tile grouting were covered in mould and there were cobwebe all over from the top to the bottom. I met Mrs Murray once, just briefly, and did not feel welcomed at all. The only good point was the bed was extremely comfortable and the bed linen and towels could not be faulted. I think it is fair to say, therefore, we will not be considering a return visit and would never recommend this property to anyone.

We found the proprietors to be extremely friendly and helpful, there were fresh flowers on the table and fresh scones, butter and jam for us on arrival.. The premises were spotlessly clean and all appliances in working order. We would not hesitate to book this property again when returning to Ireland on our next holiday.

We managed to choose one of the hottest weeks of the year! The beach was wonderful and only a short walk away. Also only a short walk away the greyhound racing was a new experience for us which we really enjoyed. Lots to see and do around Youghal itself - steeped in history. We also visited Dungarvan, the Jameson Distillery at Midleton, and Cobh, where The Heritage Centre and the Titanic Experience are both well worth visiting, especially if you have ancestors who emigrated. Only disappointment was there was no fish to catch!

Having just arrived back from this cottage.. Could not fault the cottage. Barbara and her Husband are great hosts. Will hopefully be returning. A very nice touch were the scones and jam, plus flowers. My wife and I are keen walkers, so the 2 miles too town was not a problem. There are 2 convenience stores within a 10 minute walk also. And the views over the bay are great.

This is a very compact but excellent property, our only minus was that it say a 10 min walk to the town ? At 2 miles out of town I think you would have to be a very quick walker Also there is nowhere to hand your Coates apart from over the back of the chair and they kept slipping off Apart from them two issues this is a very nice place to stop and the owner is very very pleasant and knowledgable

The facility was clean, comfortable and private.. The welcome was lovely - fresh scones and a lovely bouquet of flowers on arrival! Absolutely lovely. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. We really appreciated the "lift" into town to catch our bus. An excellent and memorable stay. Thank you so very much.

The apartment is situated with an interesting view downhill to the sea.. It is cosy, comfortable and clean; very well equipped, we had everything necessary for our stay. There is plenty of literature about the surrounding area to help decide where to go. The owners, Barbara and Peter are very helpful and friendly. We would have loved to stay longer and would certainly recommend it.

A very comfortable little cottage, with everything you could wish for.. Beautiful seaviews , huge garden with lovely flowers. Very friendly owners.

This little property is not far from Youghal. It is also near the sea. There is a lovely view from the property. There is a pub nearby which is very busy at weekends. I stayed for a week and used it as a base for visiting places such as Cork. I am used to self catering holidays so had plenty of groceries with me. This is essential as you would not be near many shops. The accommodation itself is a kitchen/diner/sitting room, a bedroom and ensuite shower room. The double bed is comfortable and there is a wardrobe for your stuff. There is wifi and all the kit you may need for cooking. The owner lives in the house nearby. She is very friendly and helpful. I might stay there again if I am in the area. Ideal for a peaceful getaway.
March 2017
A well placed cottage with a good walk into Youghal if needed or drive. Plenty of places to visit and if you require a change with no pressure catch the bus into Cork city for 10 Euro return or the other way to Waterford. Good walks around the beach road. Some really excellent eating places in Youghal if a tad pricey and lots of variety. A comfortable stay with all basic needs covered. Great views from the cottage.
