Steamer Point Lodge is a detached cottage in the Steamer Point Nature Reserve on the Christchurch coastline. The cottage sleeps four people in two bedrooms which are a king-size double and a twin room. There is also a bathroom, a well-equipped modern kitchen with a dining area and a sitting room. Outside is off road parking for two cars and an enclosed lawned garden with a patio and furniture which enjoys fantastic views out of over the clifftop. Highchair available. Steamer Point Lodge really is a very special coastal holiday destination to enjoy at any time of the year.

Area
Over 24 acres of clifftop nature reserve, situated between Highcliffe Castle and Friars Cliffe on the western Hampshire coast, on the southern boundaries of the New Forest and East Dorset, near the historic waterside town of Christchurch. The reserve was formerly part of the Highcliffe Castle estate, and was named after a steamer boat which ran aground back in 1830. Created a designated nature reserve in 2005, the area preserves the natural woodland of oak and hazel, providing habitats for many species of flora, animal and birdlife, offering peaceful trails through the trees.

August 2020
My husband and I stayed for 7 nights during the latter part of August 2020 with our two dogs. The location is amazing with stunning views and direct access down to the beach. The large garden is secure and private although the garden furniture is looking a little shabby. Sadly, we encountered a number of issues with this rental during our stay. It took several phone calls to finally get a gate code hours before we were due to arrive. The property itself was dirty - the toilet stained, the floors needed a vacuum and mop, the oven was filthy, the kitchen cupboard fronts and fridge were stained. It was most definitely not up to COVID cleaning standards. In addition, the outside bins were completely full of previous occupants' rubbish. It was fortunate that we had brought our own cleaning products as there were virtually none on site (most nearly empty). I certainly did not expect to spend the first few hours of my holiday cleaning! The property needs some attention in terms of decor and up-dating - the photos do not accurately represent the property as it is today. It could be amazing with a little TLC and imagination. It was interesting to read previous guests' comments in the Visitor Book which echoed the above but clearly no-one was reading or heeding these. Such a shame. Finally, we would like to say that our experience with rental of properties through Sykes has always been efficient and helpful and they have been made aware of our comments so they can address the situation with Bournemouth Council who are the owners/operators of this property. We would not hesitate to use Sykes Cottages in the future. In the current state, we would not recommend this property - sadly, the location and views do not out-weigh the dirty and tired accommodation.

I am Jackie Ricketts, not Miss Whitehouse.. Sheila Whitehouse booked the property but then very generously gave me the week's holiday there. I shared the Lodge with another friend for week 19th - 26th April 2019 The location of Steamer Point Lodge is magnificent, with the views over the beach and ocean. The property was spacious, clean and the kitchen was well equipped. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of towels and tea towels. My only negative comments are that the shower is nowhere near powerful enough, we had to keep moving around to get wet. There is a real need for a power shower, preferably a level access shower cubicle too. It would be good to have a couple of reclining chairs for the garden too, although these are not essential. I left my comments in the Visitors Book in the lobby of Steamer Point Lodge. We thoroughly enjoyed our week there and will certainly look to coming back again. Thank You.

Property in a very pleasant position with only a caste as neighbours.. Had a large Bathroom but it was let down by the absence of a walk in Shower - a must for less mobile visitors. Bedroom reading lights would be welcome, especially in the twin bed room.

The location is wonderful - especially if you have a dog with you, and it is a lovely area to explore.. The cottage itself is great but our arrival was undermined by a dirty duvet cover on the double bed - looked like a large dog with muddy paws had been on it - and an unemptied rubbish bin. The master bed also has a horrible plastic mattress cover which makes you sweat in bed, and the dinner plates are too big to put in the dishwasher! These minor drawbacks are a real shame as the cottage is in the most beautiful location and under normal circumstances we would have rebooked it for later in 2019.

This was our second time here.. The lodge has everything we need -10 seconds from sea, woods behind, private back garden and beautiful views. Long beach for walks in either direction.

It was far better than expected, everything you need for a relaxing holiday, best of both worlds, beach and woodland walks together, our two dogs loved it.. Came back totally chilled.

Simply the best location for any holiday we’ve ever had.. We will definitely have a return visit one day. Missing my morning coffee watching the waves gently folding onto the beach.

The location was amazing with fantastic views from the garden across to The Isle of Wight, steps from the garden to a (miles long) beach and the surrounding woodland was an added bonus.. Cannot fault the cottage in any way. We would love to return some time in the future.

The position and access to the beach were perfect, very quiet location and lovely to hear the sea lull you to sleep.. Amazingly lucky with the weather which always makes a difference. Hardly used the car all week.

Excellent location.. It came up and exceeded expectations. Certainly one of the cosiest we have stayed in.

If we had bought our 2 young grandchildren with us as we sometimes do, there would have been a problem with the second bedroom being so far away from the main bedroom, with a fire exit door (no bolt) next to them which they could easily opened without us being aware..

The utensils in the kitchen including the scissors are not very sharp - that's all everything else was perfect.. Sadly, because of the severe weather we had to cut our holiday short by two days. We were devastated because despite the cold it was an absolute perfect place to be. The view from the garden down to the beach was amazing and seeing the Isle of White from there. Walks in all directions from the Lodge were wonderful for us and our dog. Furniture and beds very comfy. Everywhere spotless. Thank you very much.

Door keys not available on arrival time.. Had to make several calls before someone arrived with the keys. The fridge smelled strongly of fish which the previous people had said about. We reported it but we could not keep food in there.

Just two very small things, need roller blind on front door aperture, very disconcerting going from bathroom to bedroom with large clear panel in the front door; shame the bathroom doesn't have a shower cubicle instead of over bath, very difficult for us oldies and I did nearly fall a couple of times..

Location is superb -right on the cliff top with no other houses around ! Lovely go to bed listening to the sea and the owls. Whole place was spotlessly clean and equipped. Have already booked for 2 more weeks next year (need I say more!) Great beach just down the steps for dog walking/playing/walking or just ice cream eating.

What a little gem ! We had a wonderful holiday at Steamer Point Lodge which was situated in the nature reserve of Highcliff Castle, our accommodation was to the highest standard with the best bed I have slept in!!! My two grandchildren loved the garden and thought it was great they had their own gate which took them straight down steps to the beach! Altogether a perfect place to stay and would certainly return.
