Self-Catering Reviews

We felt at home immediately.. A very special touch by the owners was the welcome card and gifts of Prosecco and Chocolates. We have three dogs and we were very happy to find the garden very secure. A point to note is that the cottage is a little isolated, but having said that, we wanted peace and quiet after a very hectic time as essential workers. Lots of local footpaths for the keen dog walker. All in all we loved it and WILL go back.

We had enjoyed a week in St Michael's House last year, so were really looking forward to a stay in the cottage.. It was wonderful! The cottage offered every comfort you could possibly want and was well equipped with kitchen equipment and other items of a high quality, so you wanted for nothing. The cottage was like a home from home and catered for our needs and those of our dogs brilliantly. The garden was very secure so our dogs could explore it and enjoy it in safety. The cottage offered us exactly the peaceful break we were hoping for and was set in such lovely country side, there were walks a plenty. we enjoyed it so much we would like to come back again next year!

Quiet and pleasant.. We were there for 2 weeks and towels were changed at the end of week 1 which was nice, as was the welcome bottle of prosecco. The cottage sleeps 7 - but there were only 6 dining chairs and 2 outdoor chairs - it would helpful if thus could be addressed for future guests.

Cottage ideal for families with dogs and was very comfortable.. As advised to the owner, the main lounge radiator did not work, requiring a fire to be needed first thing on winter days.

It was our third visit to this particular cottage in Suffolk.. Mr & Mrs Eversden are always really friendly and willing to help in any way. Lovely cottage in perfect Suffolk surroundings. We have four dogs, which can be difficult finding places to stay but since we started using Syke Cottages’s it’s not been a problem. This was our seventh holiday using Syke Cottages’ and look forward to another couple next year.

Although we had an enjoyable week, it would have been good to have a parasol in the garden and the lawn needed mowing.. We also felt that it wasn't quite as spacious as the pictures made it appear, although the bedrooms were lovely. It would also have been useful to have more detailed information regarding walks, places to eat with recommendations and places to visit, not just a selection of leaflets. *****OWNER RESPONSE***** Thank you for taking the time to let us know your comments. I am sorry to hear that you found the lawn needing mowing, the garden is tended to fornightly and should not have appeared to be overgrown for your stay. In relation to the local information, we do provide many recommendations on what you can see and do in the area within our welcome pack as well as providing the leaflets for local activities/ events. We do hope that apart from the items listed that you enjoyed your stay with us at St Michael's Cottage. Warm Regards. *****

Wonderful cottage, comfortable sitting room, modern kitchen, lovely decorated bedrooms, all very clean with enclosed garden, ideal if you have dogs.. Very tranquil and secluded location and yet very close to beaches, to the wonderful St Peter's brewery, the beaches, Beccles and Bungay....

Had a fab time .. The four dogs were well catered for with the secure garden ,dog bowls and even the considerate large towels especially for them. The stair gates situated at the top and base of the stair a brilliant idea, especially as they were not fiddly to operate. My friends and I loved the cottage and the whole area.

We really enjoyed our stay, the house is lovely and well equipped.. May be a good idea to let people know that they need to bring wood for the wood burning stove. Thank you for a fantastic stay.

The cottage was ideally located for us as we had 3 dogs who enjoyed the various walks around the village.. The local pub allowed dogs in too which was a bonus, and they were very friendly and welcoming. The cottage itself was very well equipped. There was nothing they hadn't thought of providing for our stay, including a Christmas tree. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the towels and bedding provided were of a high standard. I would totally recommend the cottage to anyone looking for a quiet holiday in the heart of the Suffolk countryside, with ample walks available on your doorstep.

April 2017
Why I was disappointed The garden was appalling - as the last review on trip advisor also referred too ( unfortunately I had not read this before booking) - it was mainly mud and rubble where a big tree or something had been ripped out. There were old cigarette lighters and things in the rubble. The garden backs onto a farm outbuilding of some sort ( not mentioned in the details) and is extremely small. We booked this place as we had dogs and it advertised a well enclosed garden - but the fence is very low and had a gap underneath it so not very helpful. We used the rubble in the garden to fill up small gaps. Price For almost 700 pounds for the week I could have booked somewhere much better and will not return Good points The property had been cleaned really well Good WIFI Takes dogs Surrounding villages and countryside absolutely fantastic Suggestions Owners need to redo the garden urgently if they want better reviews and reduce the cost if they want to book it regularly !

The whole package was perfect.. ....Many thanks
August 2016
Very disappointed with this place. The 'Garden' is disgraceful. Cracked concrete with weeds, & a small grassed area - all very messy. Massive overgrown bramble hedges make it very shady. BBQ filthy and no grill. Not an area we would want to use at all. Not the "delightful garden" as described in the Sykes website, and we're pretty sure there was a photograph on the website of the garden next door. Not there now though. Bed linen is old, thin & bobbly. Very uncomfortable. Sheets are badly fitting, & are all either too big or too small for the mattresses & duvets. There were black dog hairs on one of the duvet covers, and even hairs on the sheet when I pulled back the duvet. The toilet had not been properly cleaned. And as for the state of the toilet brush... Completely caked in faeces (and I do mean completely). The bathroom reeked. Main Shelf missing from fridge door. Sofa very old and sagging. cushions again very old. All need updating. No hairdryer. We emailed Sykes on the Saturday and again on Sunday, it's now Wednesday and still no response. Very disappointed.

A lovely character cottage in a very peaceful location. Good location for driving to quiet beaches, heathland and forest walks which we and the dogs all loved.

September 2015
It was very quiet and there were good walks from the door. The cottage did have plenty of old county cottage character.
September 2015
this was an ideal cottage for a restful holiday with the family and three dogs, plenty of places to walk yoiur dog has a enclosed back garden which is ideal last thing at night or first thing in the morning,Once you remember the low doorways and the beam in the lounge/dining room area(we placed a reminder towel)you have a log burner which there is a starter pack provided but you will need a few bags depending on what time of the year you stay.the kitchen is modern with all you need, the stairs have gates top and bottom. The stairs do need some care as they are open tread but the cottage is a grade two listed building.Plenty of parking space there where four cars when we stayed as St Michaels farm house is ajoining this property ,the only thing we could not find was a cloths line in the back garden one of those retractable ones would be ideal.other wise enjoyed our week stay there a pub not far away plus St Peters brewery just a mile away so theres plenty of scope of either stay in or visit the local

May 2015
The garden was enclosed for the dogs which was fantastic for them. The cottage was very clean, warm and had constant hot water, heating and WiFi. The TV was a good size. We would definitely like to return and would recommend. The character of the cottage was lovely. There's plenty to do within a 20-30min drive. It was very peaceful with lovely wildlife.

Fantastic location, very peaceful. Cottage very homely with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Loved all the period features of the beams everywhere and wonky floors. Owners easily on hand if needed and quick to fulfil any request. Very dog friendly (we took our 3 small dogs!). Ideal for families with pets and small children and would recommend. Lots of lovely places to visit a short car journey away.

A lovely character cottage in beautiful surroundings, very peaceful. Dogs loved the enclosed garden and appreciated the cool tiled floors during our stay as the weather was hot and sunny. Comfortable rooms fully equipped and owners quickly on hand to meet our requirements. Overall, a lovely relaxing break and would recommend a stay at this delightful cottage to anyone.

February 2014
A peaceful, serene setting and wonderful countryside right outside your doorstep! The wonderful, cute, quaint cottage, which was just perfect for all the family, made it hard for us to leave it in order to explore our surroundings! From the master bedroom in particular, the views were just picture postcard - and we did not have to even get out of bed to see them! Everything was just perfect, a very peaceful, enjoyable week.

February 2014
The cottage was in a lovely place, with lots of interesting places within easy reach . It was very clean, comfortable, peaceful, quiet, warm and relaxing. The interior of the cottage with all it's beams and layout was brilliant as we really like old fashioned styles like this. We were impressed with the large bedroom, the best we have slept in. The owners of the cottage were very nice and helpful and we appreciated the bottle of wine and biscuits they gave us. We would highly recommend it to anybody, and hope to stay again. Thank you for a very pleasant stay at their cottage.

The location was perfect. Our cottage delightful especially the log burning stove. Very cosy indeed. It was spotlessly clean. The owners who lived next door could not have been more helpful if and when required.

December 2013
This was a lovely house; cosy and nicely furnished. Very comfortable beds. The bad weather did not stop us having a great weekend. The owners were really nice, being helpful without being intrusive. Some great villages nearby with good 'olde english -style' pubs - and very nice food. Near to lovely countryside, and lots of places to visit. We would like to come back.
Mrs Allard

The family live next door and are friendly and welcoming. We loved the quietness and comfort of the cottage. It was dog friendly which was a bonus for us, with a garden where the dogs could go out at night and first thing. Pretty villages and lots of walking nearby. Just what we wanted - a relaxed, comfortable stay.

Friendly and welcoming owners and a really quiet, peaceful location. Garden ideal for dogs, very comfortable and relaxing. Smart and clean but not so formal that we felt worried about living in it. Just what we needed!
