Holiday Rental Description

Holiday home
What a fabulous holiday cottage! St Agnes stands in the most stunning location and every room enjoys breathtaking views along the coastline and across the bay to Cnicht, ‘the Welsh Matterhorn'. So much care and thought has gone into the refurbishment of this delightful terraced house. "We love Borth y Gest - St Agnes looks across the pretty little bay with some wonderful beaches just round the corner." A short stroll takes you to a delightful sandy cove, known locally by some as ‘Sian's Cove' (Sian owns St Agnes!). Borth Y Guest has a good restaurant and a lovely cafe on the front. A short drive or a reasonable walk away is Porthmadog, which has interesting shops and galleries, and restaurants - try Yr Hen Fecws or The Ship. You can ride on the Welsh Highland and Ffestiniog Railways, or venture into the mountains of Snowdonia. Whether it is early morning or the end of a busy day it is so relaxing to watch the ebb and flow of the tide in this pretty half moon bay.

Accomodation Details

Two bathrooms: 1 x free standing bath in one of the bedrooms with the loo and basin tucked away discreetly, 1 x ensuite with walk in shower, loo and basin, Sitting room with electric wood burning-effect stove.

Area
Borth y Gest is a quiet Welsh seaside village of mainly Victorian houses retaining much charm and character. Located by the mouth of the River Glaslyn, and a short drive away from the Italian styled village of Portmeirion, this pretty Welsh village has stunning panoramic views over the sands and estuary to the historic Harlech Castle and the Snowdonia National Park beyond. This North Wales village has two bistros and a coffee lounge all located on the front overlooking the bay and all with dog-friendly outdoor seating areas; perfect places to while away the hours watching the comings and goings of the local boatmen. Borth y Gest, with its sheltered coves and sandy beaches, has walking in abundance; why not head up Moel-y-Gest or take a wander over the headland to the famous Black Rock Sands, or go a little further afield where the vast Snowdonia National Park awaits? For a day out you can take a trip on the famous Ffestiniog Steam Railway and Welsh Highland Railway from Porthmadog, only a 15 minutes' walk away, or for those with younger children why not visit the shorter but more child-focussed Welsh Highland Heritage Railway? For a day trip the entire Llyn Peninsula calls. With Anglesey within reach and the whole North Wales coast with the Wales Coast Path to be explored, Borth y Gest has it all: a quiet bolt hole but conveniently located for ease of access to this stunning area, a must at any time of the year.

I don’t even know where to begin.. at first glance it’s a lovely cottage but the further you go into your stay you realise it’s possibly the dirtiest place around. the showers and baths are full of mold, there are spiders and flies everywhere, ledges and shelves are thick with dust, there are body hairs in the beds, and to top it off, a broken pipe outside so there is poop all over the front of the house. there is a piece of glass in the garden outside which is bound to get smashed sooner or later, the hole where the dehumidifier is in the downstairs bedroom is covered with cobweb covered sponges, along with 30 spiders just in that one room. there are webs full of flies everywhere, more often than not there would be a horrendous smell that made its way through the pipes and stunk out all the rooms in the house, the house itself it’s full of the owners clutter and tat, and is not safe for anyone with mobility issues. the stairs are steep and slippy, and the rope/bannister is half broken so is useless anyway. due to covid we have waited 2 years for a holiday, and the only worthwhile thing that we paid for is the view. a huge disappointment as we love the area, but we will never ever be staying here again.

Despite losing 3 days of our booked week in April because of Covid restrictions ,we finally arrived to find a freshly decorated and spotlessly clean accommodation in a quiet and scenic backwater of North Wales. A tall thin house spread over 4 floors and 4 flights of stairs, 'St Agnes' offers very comfortable, warm and cosy accommodation. In our 70s, we managed the flights of stairs quite easily despite arthritic joints. The living area is on the level with the street where we had no problem parking, and offers a lovely picture window looking out across the small bay. A variety of birds were always available to watch as the tide ebbed and flowed, ranging from red shanks to herons, oyster catchers to egrets etc.! Very efficient heating and constant hot water for shower and bath. Kitchen facilities adequate though a larger area for food preparation and storage would have been useful. Beds are a little firm but that can be remedied with addition of spare duvet as a mattress topper under bottom sheet! Toilet facilities are the Saniflo system which works perfectly as long as the rules are adhered to. (Certainly not complicated!) . The little bay is very muddy at low tide but is a boater's paradise and so peaceful probably because there is no pub! It is easy to walk to Porthmadog in one direction and Black Rock sands and Criccieth in the other along the coastal path....... Highly recommended accommodation.

Location is good but that's all ,dangerous stairs nothing child friendly clutter everywhere no where to put your groceries generally very run down dirty in places you can see behind appliances old food etc fronts on draws on hanging off ,no work surfaces ,shower in top bedroom drain blocks all the time backs up and all dirt and hair comes into shower, toilet on ground floor has a macerater blocks easy and the poo comes into the bath when you flush if its blocked and it blocks easy, broken lounger wood rotten ,itched all over in the lounge on furniture bitten by mites no reception on TV worth having owners ornaments everywhere, oven smoked ,piece of glass off an old table just leant against wall just waiting to be smashed .constant flow of pedestrians stopping and staring into garden as it's on coastal walk path asking what's it like I covered the sign up to try and improve privacy you pay to park on carpark everyday if you can get a space ,generally needs updating in every respect we were told it was going to be updated for 2019 pictures look good but it's the same with a couple of different blankets on sofa what's under them is the same .
