The kindness, warm hospitality & generousity of time & transport our host family extended to us.. One could feel the love that went into the restoration of this darling iconic home. And Steven, Mary & Kate are genuine human gems. We were so very sad to leave their home and cannot wait to return! The surroundings are idyllic & soulful.

Amazing, the most relaxing and refreshing holiday yet.. This was our second time at the cottage and we're already booking for next year. Step out of everday life into a slow paced beautiful world. We went mid January and with the wood burning stove going the whole cottage was toastie warm. The pictures of the cottage don't come close to the reality of how spacious and wonderful the cottage really is. A must visit.

This little 250-year old thatched cottage was a dream come true for our Ireland vacation! It was absolutely charming, cozy and inviting, had every amenity we needed (no wifi, but that helped us relax!), the upstairs bed was very comfortable, the shower had good water pressure, extra quilts on the sofas were nice to snuggle in with, and we appreciated the fresh scones and milk upon arrival. We stayed at several places during our 2-week trip, and this was one of my favorites. I would highly recommend it.

We had a fabulous time at the cottage, it provides everything you could need for a comfortable stay.. Steve, the owner, was kind enough to meet us on arrival with some good tips for exploring the area and the homemade scones were a lovely touch (and delicious! :-) ). The cottage is brilliantly situated to explore Clare, Galway and Mayo, if you're happy to do a bit of driving. And at the end of a hard day's exploring it was always a delight to come back to the very homely feeling cottage. The only drawback... we had to come home :( I'm not really a hotel person so we normally rent a cottage when on holiday and have stayed at quite a few and I would have no reservations in recommending this one to my friends and family, it definitely ranks up there with the best.

The location of cottage was secluded but not lonely. It has lovely, uninterrupted views including distant view of sea. It has a pretty garden. The interior of the cottage is tastefully decorated and in keeping with the age of the property.

The cottage is beautiful, secluded and quiet and although being a traditional land workers abode is fully modernised with heating, shower, t.v and is very comfortable. It was a pleasure to have stayed there and would be happy to return there at some point.

Wild and rugged countryside coupled with the tempestuous weather made it a completely different holiday to our usual hot beach holidays. Definitely planning a return to explore other parts of the wonderful Emerald Isle.

The only problem with this cottage is you won't want to leave it. The most beautiful, sweetest cottage I have ever seen. In idyllic, isolated surroundings, it's like stepping back in time. Came here for Christmas to escape the city and had a lovely break. Enjoyed the company of local cats and donkeys and the exceedingly friendly hosts and neighbours. Highly recommend it.

This was a delightful cottage, 200 years old but renovated sympathetically for modern living. The hosts were extremely friendly. There was hot water on tap whenever required and the heating ensured that we were always comfortable. We liked the donkeys too.

Perfect quaint little cottage! Quiet and peaceful with everything included to make your stay enjoyable.
September 2014
Spiddal thatch cottage is a small but utterly charming old pre-famine cottage that has been beautifully and comfortably restored by the owners Steve and Mary, who are very welcoming and helpful. It has a spiral staircase to the first floor which could be difficult for young children and the elderly or infirm to negotiate. The location is very pretty, set amongst fields with numerous green lanes to explore, which are flanked by tumble-down dry stone walls, abundant with wild flowers. There is a fascinating deserted village nearby and a quiet stony beach 30 minutes walk away. A good base to explore Galway and the surrounding area.

This is a 200 year old family cottage renovated sympathetically for modern living, ie hot water, shower and heating when required. Steven, the owner provided much needed directions as the cottage is at the top of a narrow lane and was there to greet us and show us around. The milk, tea coffee and freshly baked scones provided a thoughtful welcome. Spiddal is ideally suited for exploring Connemara and close to Galway and the port for the Aran Islands. The rural setting gave us a week of peace.

We stayed here for a week in July. The owners were very friendly, with tea and home-made scones to welcome us. The cottage is delightful, beautifully restored and modernised to a high standard without impairing the atmosphere of period authenticity. Access to the double bedroom is by a rather steep split staircase, which could be difficult for elderly, infirm or younger children to negotiate. The cottage and its surroundings have an calming effect on the spirit, which makes you want to slow down and take life easy. We particularly enjoyed walking the pretty lanes with our dog, marvelling at the many wild flowers and rough stone walls and the wonderful view over Galway Bay. Overall, a wonderful place for a restful and relaxing stay! Highly recommended.
