Area
The highest town in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises olde worlde England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly Farmers' market. The Stow Horse Fair is held twice a year, on the Thursday closest to 12th May and the Thursday closest to 24th October, this is a traditional fair for people to meet up and trade which dates back to 1476 when its Charter was granted; Stow is very busy for a day or two before and after each fair, and a number of shops, pubs and restaurants are closed. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antique shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum.

We stayed at South Hill Farmhouse for a family get-together and would definitely recommend.. The facilities were great and we found the house really spacious considering it was full. We had a party from young to old and the house provided space for everyone to stay entertained. The lounges and dining room accommodated the full 22 people with ease and the kitchen facilities were definitely sufficient for a large party! It was great being a short walk into Stow-on-the-Wold, although you do have to cross a busy road to reach the path. But overall a great place to stay!

The house is fantastic - ideal for a big crowd of all ages like ours.. Really well kitted out - didn't even need to take my own sharp knives! As you now (recently I gather) allow dogs might I suggest that the garden could be better/more safely fenced. Also I was really surprised that you could not find staff to help out on Saturday evening washing up! I cannot believe that you could not find one or two students or similar around who would be keen to earn a bit of ready cash. Even though you would not EARN anything out of it - it would enhance the experience. Washing up after 20 people - when you have done all the rest - is a tough end to an evening.

We had a brilliant stay at South Hill Farmhouse, the office team were helpful in advance of our holiday and Amanda who looked after the property was responsive when we had an issue with only half the house having heating.. The facilities were great and there was plenty of room for everyone in our party. My two year old God daughter particularly liked her little room and didn't want to leave!

The house was wonderful.. Roomy and spacious and beautiful. We had a fantastic time. The traffic was quite loud when sitting outside, but we had been forewarned about this. We didn't have cars, so it was great to be able to simply walk to Stow-on-the-Wold. The two living rooms were amazing, the play room was great fun, and the huge dining room divine. There were a few small problems. When we got to the house the Aga was not on. I rang Manor Cottages and within an hour someone had come to the house and started it up. He also took me around and explained the heating systems. The housekeepers had forgotten to leave black rubbish bags (pretty fundamental for so many people) and by the time they came with them I had already run out and bought some. Also, the next guests came at 11 am on Sunday, having been told we would leave at 10 am, but I had arranged with Manor Cottages we would stay most of the day. They were very nice and it worked out fine, luckily. One of the toilets broke upstairs and there was a small leak through the ceiling, but it was pretty minor and as it was the weekend and we were unable to ring Manor Cottages, we simply stopped using the toilet. With so many in the house this was not a big problem. I did text the number which had been left in the house for such things but got no reply. Despite these small things I thought it went great, and it was truly a wonderful weekend.
