Just home from a week in this fabulous cottage. Everything you need is at hand and the cottage is a wonderful mix of character and modern facilities. Michael and Mary who look after the cottage are very helpful and at hand if needed. The location is fantastic and the views are breath taking. Visitors books are a mine of information along with the file of things to do. House is warm all the time because of timed heating.

Recently stayed here at Sound cottage for a week. Fantastic views all round views of sea and the mountains and shore line at the bottom of where garden ends. A very nice Irish cottage cottage warm and cosy and a perfect place to to relax and let your mind wonder. The donkeys Mary and Shelia love a carrot or an apple. Hope to visit again very soon great place.

Myself, husband and two daughters aged 11 and 14 had a fantasy holiday in Sound Cottage this August. The Cottages location makes you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere and completely secluded however the small town is only a five min drive away where there is a supermarket, pubs, cafe, restaurant and other shops. There is lots todo on Achill from walking, bike riding we hired bikes and cycled the greenway which we all enjoyed, lots of water sports and plenty of pubs to relaxing in after a busy day. Both my girls had a fab time and enjoyed walking down to the shore to explore, having the donkeys in the field was a real treat we all loved feeding them carrots and petting them. The pictures are of the view from the cottage door, girls on the shore and the lovey donkeys. We can’t wait to return.

Sound Cottage is in the most tranquil of surroundings with nothing but peace and quiet all around.. An excellent place to escape and relax. The best cottage I've ever stayed in. Very homely.

This cottage was warm, cozy, and in a great location.. Well equipped kitchen, with lots of nice extras throughout the home. I appreciated the charm and character, and all the reading material, games, movies, and cd's for rainy days, aso well as a lovely host. If there was one recommendation for improvement I would say it would be the corner area of the garden by the donkeys. If it was cleared it would enhance the view.

A Magical Step Back in Time ' Our stay at Sound Cottage was wonderful.. It is perfectly located to the many amazing beaches and hill walks on Achill Island. Ballycroy National Park, Westport and south Mayo are all close by and easy day trips as well. The views are breathtaking and indescribable. The beauty of Achill would be enough to merit a stay at Sound Cottage, but the home connects you to this stunning landscape. The Cottage is quietly situated on a small bit of land reaching into Achill Sound and less than 100 meters from the beach. It is an impossibly romantic place to stay, the stone walls, picturesque windows, the wood stove burning softly and the still quiet that engulfs you. It is well fitted and the recent addition of the large back bedroom is perfectly done and makes it well suited for a family or ideal for a traveling couple. Shopping, pubs, music and restaurants are close by. One of the most appreciated features at the cottage was the full laundry (washer/dryer). Michael and Mary were wonderful hosts and provided everything we required. With a small flock of sheep surrounding and a donkey (Neddy) wanting to be feed carrots, you will feel like you have stepped back in time and will not want to reset the clock when it is time to go.

July 2017 - We very much enjoyed our stay at Sound Cottage.. It was an ideal location to stay 'home' and relax and perfectly situated to explore Achill and mainland Mayo. Our two large dogs (one a wolfhound) had no problems with Ned or the sheep and there was plenty of room in the cottage for us and them. We had the added joy of a hare in the garden. Achill is a magical and beautiful island with a wonderful welcome from th elocal people for visitors. We will return to Achill and to Sound Cottage.

Remote situation of the cottage and an olde worlde charm. The views across the sound to mainland Eire were superb and the cottage itself had years of history between it's walls.

What a beautiful place Sound Cottage is! My husband and I and our 3 girls thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Achill and the cottage and its location are picturesque. There is everything you could need in the cottage for a family of 5, it is clean and tidy and what you would expect from an old Irish cottage. The girls enjoyed Ned the donkey in the field beside the cottage and the fact that the shoreline was pretty much on the doorstep. A fab place to just get away from modern day life and spend time together as a family.

Wonderful cottage.. Greatly enjoyed our stay. Beautiful views over the Sound. Fun walks on the Strand beachcombing. We would have booked again for September 2020 but not available. Will try again in a couple of years.

Fantastic location and beautiful scenery. A perfect authentic Irish cottage for a peaceful getaway, made all the better by the friendly donkey, Neddy in the field beside.

We had a lovely restful time in this charismatic cosy little cottage with beautiful views from nearly every window. It was remote enough to feel 'far from the madding crowd' but in fact close enough to shops when we needed supplies. I would definitely come back- this time in the summer when it would be a totally different experience. The place was spotless and our dogs gave it 5 stars as well!

The views were outstanding, also it was a very short distance to amenities. All the blue flag beaches and sights on Achill were at the most only a 20 minute drive from the cottage which was great as you didn't tire from travelling. The cottage had a very good selection of DVDs and books to keep you entertained if the weather was too bad to venture out.

We spent 4 nights on Achill Island earlier this year for my birthday... just me, my wife and our dog. It was perfect. We travelled to Achill with the intention of staying in the cottage the entire time (except for dog walks), so we're probably not the best to speak on the activities available on the island. We simply wanted somewhere with no internet, no computers and no hassle. We brought all of our food for the 4 days with us, but I believe there is a supermarket within 1 mile of the cottage. The cottages location was perfect. Out on its own peninsula, we weren't bothered by anyone for the 4 days. Breakfast outside by the water every morning in privacy, midnight walks with the dog in privacy. The multi-fuel stove was great and there was enough fuel supplied for one full day of burning (9am through to midnight). We brought fuel with us for the other days. Honestly, I can't recommend this place enough. We will be back.
