Holiday home Smalldale is a stone built, end terrace cottage, on the outskirts of Bradwell in the Peak District National Park. The cottage sleeps four people and has one double and one twin bedroom, along with a ground floor family bathroom. The cottage also has a kitchen with dining area and a sitting room with open fire. To the outside of this cottage, there is a garden with patio, furniture and BBQ and off road parking for one car with additional
free parking in a car park 30 yards away. Located in an area renowned for stunning countryside, Smalldale is a perfect holiday cottage for exploring the area.
Area Set amidst towering cliffs and located between the Hope Valley and Bradwell Dale, the village of Bradwell is a pretty little settlement situated within the Peak National Park. Bagshawe Cavern - reached by 130 steep steps – is located on the edge of the village and is a reminder of the town's mining history. Nearby are the famous Peak, Blue John, Treak Cliff and Speedwell Caverns, whilst the David Mellor Design Museum can be found in the nearby village of Hathersage. The picturesque town of Castleton is just three miles away and is overlooked by the crumbling Mam Tor, or 'Shivering Mountain', with the dramatic Winnats Pass. Bradwell itself boasts shops, pubs and places to eat as well as close proximity with the other activities of this area.
Region The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Great cottage which is well located for walking in the Peak District.. Remember to take your slippers and take care on the steep steps up to the bedroom.
The Samuel Fox is great for food and the Curry Cabin in Hope delivers.
Enjoyed the cottage.. All was as advertised - comfortable, warm and 'deceptively spacious'. The only downside was that TV reception was inconsistent and we had to use iPads. Wifi was good though.
Mr Jenkins, February 2020
Absolutely perfect.. This cottage is brilliant for a quick break (we stayed for four days) or a month (what we plan to do next time we come to this cottage). The cottage was so warm and cozy, even when it was chilly, rainy and miserable outside! So often, cottage owners leave cheap dish soap, used sponges and cheap toilet paper - that was certainly not the case here :) Everything was five star, including the delicious bottle of wine and bag of coffee left for us. The only thing we would suggest to visitors is to bring slippers as the bathroom's gorgeous tile gets quite cold in the morning! Thanks for a great stay!
The house has good sized rooms, and is fairly comfortable.. The external doors and all windows had recently been renewed with good quality double glazed units, and they are extremely good.
At the point of booking there were only 7 photos for this property, but we see there are 24 photos now. We had wondered in which room the main table was (to eat at). The new photos confirm the table is in the kitchen. This table has 4 places, but is folded configured for 2 places on arrival due to the space available.
When opened out it was OK for the three of us, but a bit tight to get in and out of due to the size of the opening flaps.
Stairs and steps.
The listing says the main stairs are steep. They are! Although reasonably fit, we took great care using the stairs, and were OK.
The steps from the kitchen to the bathroom finish with a tiny step into the bathroom. It certainly hurts to stub your toe on this one - you will only do it once.
The Wi-fi was absolutely brilliant, and when atmospheric conditions stopped the TV reception from working for 2 days, the internet was easily able to cope. However, mobile phone reception is too weak inside the cottage, requiring a short walk to the village green to get reception.
There is a place to park your car outside, but the lavender bushes in the front bed stick out into this space, and force you to park too near the roadway for comfort. Some large vehicles do use this road, including horses. An alternative may be to ask at the nearby Inn to be allowed to park in their car park.
Clean and tidy cottage with good toilet facilities, close to Bowling Green Pub which served good food.. Cottage was convenient for visiting Castleton, Hope, Edale. Nice walks nearby.
It was a pity that the front door couldn't be used as this made it a little harder for my son and daughter in law to come and go with the push chair.. But this was a small thing, to be rectified soon, and overall, they were very pleased.
Very nice little cottage, well appointed and comfortable - great location in Peaks and with good facilities in the village, including nearby pub..
This was our third holiday with Syke's three year's running and we cannot emphasize enough how easy it is to book a get away with Syke's Cottage's.. I would highly recommend anyone wishing to get away for a few day's to use this company.
The cottage we have used for the past three year's has been situated in a great location, spotlessly clean and the facility's are all in with the price.
Great value for money. So all i can say finally is give Syke's Cottage's a go and I don't think anyone would be dissapointed. 10 out 10.
So go on.............give it a go.
These days for this cost WiFi should be available because of poor phone reception and even possibly Sky ..
Very comfortable, clean and well equipped.. Also a stone's throw from a lovely pub.
Welcoming homely feel, perfect for a break away with family has everything you could possibly need
Lovely cottage and pub was closer than we thought!
Absolute joy to use Sykes cottages again.. The information to get to the premises is accurate, beautiful location, everything we need was in walking distance (shop's and especially the pub). The cottage itself is very clean and well maintained and i would like to give a special mention to Julie Brown who look's after the property. We have been to this location 2 year's on the trot and we hope to return for many more visit's. Thank You Syke's Cottage's.
We enjoyed the comfortable and quiet location. The cottage is perfect and would re-book next time.
The cottage was ideally located for walking and nearby attractions. It is very well furnished and comfortable. We liked the fact that it was very quiet and peaceful, at the same time close to essential amenities, allowing us to enjoy the beautiful countryside and get away from the urban madness.
A clean and comfy cottage in a quiet location that is close to the pub, shops and lots of places of interest to visit.
The cottage is always spotlessly clean and comfortable and it is in a lovely area. It is great for local shops, pubs, walks and visitor attractions and The locals are always friendly too.
The cottage was very clean, comfortable, well equipped, warm and quiet. Located in the centre of Smalldale, it was interesting to walk around and chat to locals. Shops, pubs and eateries were nearby. The key holder was very approachable and helpful.
Excellent walking from the door. Quiet property in peaceful village with good amenities. Well serviced cottage, warm and cosy, with plenty of space.
The cottage was spotless when we arrived. There was plenty of information regarding who to get in touch with in case of problems and also places to visit. It was in a good position for visiting places of interest in the Peak District.
Smalldale is always a pleasure to visit. The lady who looks after the property should be commended for the cleanliness of the property. The people of Bradwell are always pleasant and have time for a chat, as do the local shopkeepers. The property is in a great village location - you are never very far from anywhere.
Our first stay in the Peak District. Absolutely loved it and found this wonderful cottage just erfect for our needs in terms of accommodation and location. Very well equipped, loved the extras of DVDs and CDs catering for all ages. Bedrooms very comfortable and lounge especially so. When we come back we will definitely stay here again. If we had one minor issue ? Sort the toliet flush out but this did not distract from a great stay.
The location of the property was great and our host was helpful. We liked the the warmth of the cottage, the local pub, which served superb food, the friendliness of the locals, the scenery, and the local walks.
The cottage was spacious and comfortable
The cottage was very warm and comfortable and had everything we could have wished for. It was spotlessly clean and in the most fabulous area, with lots to do all around.
Perfect location for exploring the Peak District.
Excellent communication with the key holder. Cottage is always spotlessly clean, love the area, the friendly locals and it had excellent walks from the cottage door.
Beautifully maintained and equipped cottage - warm and cosy with the open fire in the sitting room as a bonus. Bradwell is a great village because it has shops, pubs and buses, but does not rely on tourism alone so it feels like a real village. Everyone says hello which makes you feel welcome. We have stayed in this cottage before, and love the choice of walks straight from the door.
The property is always very well maintained and very clean. The property contact is always very helpful. It is close to all village amenities and a good bus service if you don't want to drive.
The cottage was in a lovely location with many walks from the front door. It was very cosy, with everything you could wish for to make a relaxing stay. Convenient bus service to surrounding villages. Perfect for re-charging the batteries.
Very well-equipped cottage with everything you could need for a really relaxing holiday. Cottage is in a great position with plenty of walks from the door, and a range of pubs in the village serving good food when you are hungry from the walking!
Lovely, quiet location. High standard of cleanliness and furnishings.
All home comforts were there, and all rooms were spotlessly clean and nicely presented. Easy access to some of the finest parts of Peak District without being too touristy. We all had a lovely time.
A charming, well maintained property, with all home comforts.
The cottage was very comfortable and clean. The area was splendid with lots to do. Village amenities were very local and the pub around the corner was excellent.
The welcome pack was a lovely idea - coffee and wine. The property was very clean and tidy and very comfortable. Close to all amenities. Locals are always friendly. Excellent meal in the Bowling Green pub.
We've just returned home from a week at 3 Ingleside Cottages, Bradwell. We booked the cottage to visit family in Sheffield and celebrate our Grandson's 2nd birthday.
You park your car a metre from the front door of the cottage, and further public parking is on-hand just 20 metres away (outside the Bowling Green Inn) if your party has more than one car.
The cottage was spotlessly clean on arrival. The sitting room is very comfortable with an open fire (if you need it). The TV is not the most modern, and could do with an upgrade to a flat-screen, but there's a good choice of channels (on Freeview).
We found the kitchen/diner equipped with everything we needed. However, the table and four chairs have to be "opened-up" from a compact cluster arrangement before you can use them, and the chairs aren't all that comfortable.
The bathroom is very modern and has a bath and shower (a lovely shower). The bath isn't full size, so you might only be able to sit up in it, rather than stretch out.
Two good-sized bedrooms ... comfy beds, large wardrobes and plenty of drawer space.
We found Housekeeper, Julie, very helpful and obliging, She'd left us a note for us to contact her on arrival because of an issue she'd identified with one of the radiators, and then came round immediately we phoned her to sort it out.
The "Bowling Green Inn", almost next door to the cottage, offers a selection of real ales and serves up truly delicious pub-grub. We highly recommend it, and you can enjoy superb views across the Hope Valley from their restaurant as you tuck-in.
Excellent cottage. Great location, perfect mix of traditional and modern.
A warm, comfortable cottage in a good location for walks in the surrounding area.
We loved the location of the cottage, it was very central to all the places we visited. The area is very beautiful with lots to see, so we will definitely come back again.
Cottage was in an excellent location; with a good pub only yards away. Lots to do and see in the surrounding area with really useful leaflets left by the owners.
Booked this cottage at the last minute for us. We have stayed in Bradwell before but not at this cottage. Great Location for shops, inc. Co-op, hairdressers, bread shop and post office. The cottage had plenty of room and was very comfortable - very easy to relax in. Small private garden at the rear - very pleasant! Plenty of room in cottage and well stocked with items. Yards from local pub - recommend Quiz night for a good laugh. Parking outside cottage. Hike up the hill and across the fields to Castleton for good exercise! We would recommend this property and will be booking again!
We had a lovely time at the cottage which was very clean and comfortable. We loved Bradwell which we found to be very friendly and welcoming including the pub 3 doors down. We were ideally placed for some beautiful walks and would certainly recommend the cottage and area to others.
A good setting next to a good pub with food. Near to Bakewell and many walks. Hardwick Hall a must. We have booked for next year, our third visit.
Nice clean comfortable cottage with an excellent location for walking, travelling and sightseeing around Derbyshire. Located within walking distance of several public houses that also served meals.
Bradwell is the prettiest and most authentic of the Hope Valley villages. Locals are also very friendly. This cottage is practical and comfortable.
Lovely cottage in a great location. Very comfortable and all mod cons available.
The cottage was warm and cosy when we arrived after a long cold drive. The quality of the cottage was superb and we had an excellent holiday. Lots of walking in the cold, then back to the warm house with a real fire. So many places to visit and things to see in the area - we will be back.
The location of the cottage is excellent! Beautiful places were within a few miles drive.
The cottage itself was cosy and warm. A well equipped kitchen meant we could cook up big hearty winter breakfasts as well as prepare all the local goods we picked up on our adventures in the evening. Thanks again to the owner for the bottle of wine and coffee!! A great base to explore the peaks! We did a good days hike in Edale followed by a day exploring Eyam, Chatsworth House, Bakewell and Matlock Baths. The Bowling Green Pub around the corner was very friendly and welcoming.
A delightful, well appointed comfotable cottage, as above, which was warm and cosy and in an excellent position. The Bowling Green pub next door was very welcoming and had excellent food and beers. so the whole weekend was great. We tried to book it again in May, but it had gone! We will try October!
The location and set-up of the property. Its proximity to the excellent pub, the Bowling Green. The parking right outside. The warm and cosy nature of the place, and the arrangements for us to collect the keys etc. We would love to rent Smalldale again.
The cottage was very quiet, clean and comfortable. It is in a good situation for walking and visiting places of interest. Local bakery is excellent for rolls and beautiful ham.
Great weather, fabulous scenery, interesting places to visit and a lovely, cosy cottage to return to each evening. It was a real bonus not to have take lots of bedding, towels, etc with us and to find the cottage really lived up to the description given and had absolutely everything we needed.
A good quality cottage in an excellent location.
Great base for the things we wanted to do. Great views out of the window.
We had marvelous weather so did lots of walking and even pony trekking. All on the doorstep.
Cosy cottage with good facilities. Lots to do in the immediate area.
Such a lovely, welcoming and cosy cottage for our break in the Peak District - really well equipped and a great location too!
A wonderful cottage in a great location. Really felt like a home from home, cosy and comfortable. We especially liked the bedroom and the great selection of DVDs!
It was just as described, if not better. Location was perfect for us to visit family in nearby Sheffield. The cottage was spacious, very comfortable, superbly well equipped and exceptionally clean which was appreciated. We'd recommend it to anyone. Thank you to the cleaner and the owners.
Cottage was in a prime location, something for everybody. Very warm on your return to the cottage when the weather was rather chilly.
The cottage was very clean and everything worked! It was very comfortable and in a great location for walking and driving.
Beautiful location, lovely little cottage that had everything you might need.
Great base to explore the area. 'Bowling Green Pub' serves good food, locals very friendly.
Mr Mrs Alderman
Warm and cosy cottage. Owners are welcoming.
This is our third visit and we would certainly come again. Generally a very cosy cottage, ideal for the winter.
Lovely little cottage, good local facilities. Close to local places, Castleton etc.
Loved the cottage, although the weather was freezing the cottage was lovely
and warm. Very well maintained and what looked liked just re-redoecorated
bedrooms and bathrooms.
The stairs are steep, so if you have small children you might want to bring a
Spoke to the owner over the phone, he was very helpful and they even left us a
bottle of win and coffee as a welcome.
I could quite happily have moved into this cottage and never moved out again! Lovely cottagey feel, lounge was really comfy and the new modern kitchen provided everything we needed. Bathroom was new and well designed. Bedrooms were cosy and homely.
The garden was a suntrap, but we had to keep a watch over the dog due to the quite high drop at the grass edge. Would probably not be safe for small children unless a small fence were erected next to the ledge.
My husband and I did not have a problem with the steep stairs up to the bedrooms, but my mum struggled with the steepness of them - not ideal if you need to go downstairs to the loo in the middle of the night! Again, these would be unsafe for small children
(I believe this was pointed out in the brochure, but as we don't have small children, it wasnt really an issue to us - I would not choose this property if I were to bring my small grandchildren)
The location is perfect - plenty of walks and convenient for driving to places of interest.
The service we received from Sykes holidays - as previously when we went to a property in Yorkshire a couple of years previously - was faultless. Nothing is too much trouble and the staff at Sykes are friendly and helpful.
I would definitely recommend Sykes as a company, and the properties that we have stayed in.
Cottage was perfect - extremely clean, and everything we needed. Fantastic bedrooms and bathroom made it feel very luxurious!
Mr Mrs Holmes
Comfortable, clean, warm home, lots of good books to read. An
excellent location for us.
The cottage was very homely and very relaxing. The locals in the village were very friendly and the local pub, Ye Olde Bowling Green was very welcoming. We had great days out at places a short drive away and enjoyed caverns and the walks a lot. Can't wait to return.
Very cosy cottage. The Bowling Green pub was very friendly and the food was great. There was a play area for children near by and lots of walks to do. The village of Bakewell is well worth a visit.
Mr Mrs Stevens
Very nice area for walking. Pub next door!!
Lovely house and very comfortable.
Mr Mrs Southwell
The lounge was a lovely size, the furniture was comfy and lots of games /dvd's etc. When the sun shone the garden was a sun trap. Lovely village of Castleton nearby with caves and lead mine.
We loved this cottage. On arrival a lovely welcome tray was supplied. The cottage was very clean, warm and welcoming. An excellent choice and we intend to book again.
We found the cottage to be of a very high standard, certainly one of the best we have visited. It was extremely clean, warm and comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped and the bathroom excellent. There were good shops within walking distance and a pub virtually next door. Also, the owners left a welcoming note, bottle of wine and coffee which was much appreciated. A very good base for walking in the area.
This was a comfortable warm and well equipped cottage.
Ideal as a base for walking in the Peak District.
Well appointed cottage in a very good area for walking.
We felt very at home in the cottage. The welcome pack left by the owners was a particularly nice touch.
Everything was absolutely 100%!
It was central for exploring the Peak District.
We thoroughly enjoyed our break in Smalldale. The property is close to some very nice walks especially Castleton, Cavedale, Mamtor and Castleton. The property itself is very comfortable and suited us ideally.
A great holiday, cottage central to lots of places of interest with beautiful walks and countryside. The cottage itself made the holiday enjoyable, facilities were in excess of what we have come to expect in holiday cottages. Some nice touches, a credit to the tourist/holiday industry. Many Thanks.
The assistance provided by both Sykes and the owners was first class.
The owners provide some nice little touches on arrival (wine, greeting card, contact details etc) such things make all the difference. When a minor fault occurred, the owner dealt with it superbly. An excellent experience.
Cottage was in the ideal position to explore the Peak District area. Lovely. The local pub is 1 minutes walk! Excellent food and friendly staff.
The cottage is in an excellent position for walking and site seeing. Handy for a pub that makes meals. The cottage is nice and cosy for a relaxing evening after a hectic day.
Mr Mrs Sinfield
Really well equipped cottage, lovely and warm.
Very relaxing feel to the property. Thoroughly enjoyed our break, wish we had been able to stay longer. We will definitely consider for future holiday breaks and recommend the cottage to our friends and family.
Our second stay at this lovely cottage, very clean and tidy, highly recommended, we will visit again.

Excellent range of appliances.New Bath Hotel serves excellent value meals. Lovely base for exploring a delightful area. Would go back.
The location was excellent - further afield and the village of Bradwell. Local people friendly and there are convenient amenities.
Near to many beautiful small villages, each with a good pub.
Proximity to great walks. 30 secs from very friendly pub. Warm well appointed cottage.
The cottage was very clean and homely.
The facilities in the house were first class. Having a dishwasher, washer and tumble dryer at our disposal was a luxury and made life easier for us. James, our 3 year old, loved the playground and paddling pool at Bakewell so much that we had to go back several times. It was very clean and safe so we had no qualms about letting him go in the pool. Also, it was free!
Lovely long walks. A good pub next door. A nice hot shower too, appreciated after a long walk.
A good walking and hiking area. The cottage was very warm and comfortable, with a good pub within 1 minute's walk.
The cottage was ideally located for the Peak district and the city of Sheffield. The location was also quiet and very handy for the Pub (The Bowling Green) which served good food.
Walks in the area.
