Shortner Croft is a little gem in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside, we are so pleased we found it.. This was our second visit to this cosy, well maintained cottage, and we hope to return. The cottage is exceptionally well equipped, everything you need has been provided, and a few extras you wouldn't usually find, hot water bottles and hair straighteners as well as a hairdryer! The bathroom has lovely toiletries provided, both for bath and shower, is very spacious, and, like the rest of the cottage, spotlessly clean. The owners, Glyn and Karen have listened to guests' comments, and where needed, provided what has been requested. Their local knowledge is a bonus, as are the walking and cycling books provided, together with lots of information on places to visit.
The local pub The Waterloo is a typical old country pub, warm and welcoming, serving very tasty meals, good value too. In the nearby village of Hartington Beresfords Tea Rooms, and post office, serves delicious scones, breakfasts and lunches, and is the heart of the village, where everyone knows everyone! Tissington village is a pretty old village to wander round, Ashbourne a few miles away is a busy market town, lovely architecture, but very hilly! Several old railway lines, now cycle tracks are within easy reach, gentle walks amid glorious scenery, something for everyone.
