The cottage is in a lovely location with wide ranging views and surrounded by fields. It is completely on its own, surrounded by fields with the nearest buildings around 400M away. It is very compact for 2 adults and has all of the appliances you need. The cottage was spotlessly clean and the decor is bright & cheery. The bed is comfy and the roll top bath is deep and luxurious. The nearest village shop is about 3 miles away in Longnor. and has limited choice. I would advise doing a big shop before you arrive which should include logs for the woodburner if required. There is walking and cycling from the door and the Tissington,Manifold & High Peak trails are a 20 minute drive. Buxton and Leek are around 10 miles away and are worth a visit. The cottage has such a lovely atmosphere that just we had to force ourselves to go out and not to just sit outside all day and watch the world go by . One highlight was watching hares playing in the adjacent field most days. We would love to return sometime.

The cottage was very well appointed, spotlessly clean and so comfortable and inviting. It’s perfect for a relaxing break and very dog friendly. Great communication with the owner too. Looking forward to our next visit.

What a gorgeous little cottage.. A real escape from the world, surrounded by farmland. We had walks from the cottage, a couple of longer ones (the Three Shires was fun), fish and chips from Longnor, and amazing moonrises and sunsets. Had to have the logburner on, even though it wasn't cold enough! It's got everything, if you want to hibernate and chill out, it's the perfect place - or if you want to do site seeing, its the perfect base. Would love to go back one day.

It was just what we needed.. The cottage was idyllic. It was surrounded by beautiful scenery. We had some brilliant walks from the door. We didn't need to use the car. To wake up to those views was the tonic we both needed. The cottage was perfect. Well equipped. The log burner was the cherry on the top. After a day of walking, we sat in front of the fire. Amazing. We will definitely go back. As for Sykes, I've already booked 4 more cottages this year. If the school house cottage has availability, we will surely love to go back and recommend it to anyone wanting a tranquil holiday to recharge their batteries. Absolutely loved it.

We stayed with our dog and baby in November and were both very impressed.. It's a lovely cottage in a great setting and very well equipped. The owner had provided lots of information for walks and things to do and the cottage is very central for exploring the area. Really couldn't fault it.

The information prior to our trip was fantastic---communication from Sykes was excellent and then cottage owners took the time to phone and confirm arrangements.. The cottage exceeded expectations; beautiful location, well resourced and exceptionally clean. I could not have wished for more and will definitely use both Sykes and the Old School Cottage again.

Cottage extremely well equipped with a well appointed en suite bathroom and bedroom.. Owners have gone to great lengths to utilise the space available and to provide high levels of comfort. Information, maps and details of walking routes etc in the area are well provided for. Possibly more information on walking routes directly from the cottage would be helpful. Despite the weather we had a super week and will definitely visit the area again and School House Cottage will be on the list.

Gorgeous cottage stunning views & setting, we wanted piece & quiet & wow did we have that! never been anywhere so peaceful. Cottage was a perfect size with everything we needed. (Pint of milk & chocs in fridge were a lovely touch thanks Jo) Lovely walks from the cottage with our dog Jake & places like Buxton & Bakewell not a very long drive away. It was our first visit to School House Cottage but it certainly won't be our last, never been so reluctant to leave a holiday cottage, what a find! would love to live here permanently!

Absolutely gorgeous little house. The views are just fabulous with the patio backing onto fields of wild flowers and hills rolling away into the distance. The middle of nowhere yet within 20 minutes drive of Buxton, Bakewell and Leek. The house itself feels like home the moment you walk in. It was so warm and cosy when the evenings were cold and the bed very comfortable. Lovely bath to soak in after a day's hard walking. We stayed for two weeks and wished we had booked another two. One of the best places we have stayed in the UK.

A secluded, cosy, quiet retreat and yet within easy access of the peaks.. If you don't fancy driving anywhere, there are walks all around the hamlet and plenty of footpaths. Rambling, running, cycling paradise! Personally I walked a lot with my terrier and took a lot of photographs one of my hobbies. I will paint from my pictures and write a few short stories. Pure heaven!

Absolutely beautiful cottage, amazing views & completely remote, exactly what we hoped for! Perfect get away for us two & the dog. Whilst the closest town is within a half-hour walk, planning your journey is essential due to lack of phone signal. Really recommend visiting the Three Shires Head for beautiful scenes. Blessed with beautiful weather however the cottage can get real cosy! Can't wait to book again soon!! Thank you so much Jo! Emily, Tom & the Dog

Beautiful little cottage, clean and tidy, all the appliances you would need,if your after peace and quiet then look no further, situated down a country lane, surrounded by countryside on all sides ,no noise apart from the wildlife at night, beautiful views, can just imagine sitting in the garden in the summer admiring the scenery with a drink at hand, longnor about a mile away if you need supplies or to sample one of the pubs, the cheshire cheese serves lovely meals, unfortunately the weather was against us this time, but we did book in the winter, definitely going back in the summer, cant wait..

The cottage would benefit from a freezer.. We were snowed in for days as the lanes were impassable in our vehicle and could not get a phone signal at all. We went prepared but others may struggle due to remote location. We did however have a fabulous relaxing time which was organised the very same day we arrived and were very happy with the service we received

This cottage is very well placed for immediate walks in scenic countryside from the door step.. Alternatively there are several trails a short car ride away as well as several interesting towns and country houses/country parks which are worth a visit.

March 2018
Fantastic cottage, in a remote location with views across the Dales.. The kitchen had everything that you needed and more! The bed was comfortable, which was important after you’ve enjoyed the beautiful countryside. Bathroom had a great shower, and deep bath! And enough hot water to fill it. The only negative thing (in my opinion) was the lounge seating wasn’t that comfortable, after a long day walking I like to relax in a comfy chair and put my feet up, and this wasn’t possible, I think a little rethinking and removing one of the tables this would be possible. Overall we had a great stay and loved our time in the dales and will be back.

Bought this as a surprise for my parents birthday.. They loved the whole weekend and the cottage was great.

This is a perfect little hideaway close to the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border. The owners have put a lot of thought into furnishing the cottage: - big comfortable bed - huge bathtub and rainfall shower head - TV upstairs and downstairs - a very toasty log burner (which made the cottage so warm in November we had to crack the window...) - selection of DVDs and games There is an enclosed patio with table and chairs outside, overlooking farmland all the way to the horizon. Gorgeous. A beautiful Peak District pick!

The isolated and remote location of School House Cottage was utterly idyllic, very warm, scrupulously clean and comfortable, well equipped and well maintained. The bed was comfortable and the bed-linen sparkling white and clean, as were the towels, which were also fluffy and soft. The WIFI signal was excellent and problem-fre - useful as there's no mobile 'phone signal for several miles in every direction (which, for me, was a plus.) Ample parking space. The owner was very helpful, without being at all intrusive of my privacy. I particularly liked the fact that, in every particular, the cottage was supplied with clear information (on, for example refuse collection) but without overburdening the holidaymaker with tons of unnecessary information.
