What a nice place to use as a base for discovering the Scottish borders. We stayed for a week in Rose Cottage with the 2 kids and the dog. Whilst this is a cottage, there is still plenty of space to spread out, and relax. Central to loads of local sights and close enough to the arterial roads to go a little further, you'll not go wrong here. With current virus restrictions, the owners keep away, but that's no bad thing - if you need them they are so willing to help, and just reading the visitors book you can see how helpful they are in "normal" circumstances. My only feedback would be that personally I think a shower would be a great addition to Rose Cottage. That said, it won't stop us from coming back (if they'll have us :)). To that end, there's part of me that's loathe to leave this review for that reason: we don't want it to be so popular that we can't book again...

I had a great time but was a little chilly as there seemed to be no obvious way to turn the central heating on, and the upstairs storage heater didn’t appear to be working.. I should have asked the owner next door, but I really hate disturbing people so didn’t like to! Luckily I had brought my quilt with me to curl up in.

The cottage is spacious and very quaint.. It really feels like home from home, with the lovely coal fire to give that cosy feel on a night. There are also electric heaters and radiators, so its lovely and warm when you need it. The kitchen is stocked with everything you could need for a break and we were even greeted with a lovely treat when we arrived! The bedrooms are large with lovely skylights. The setting is beautiful and the chickens that roam freely were an added bonus for our little one. The grounds are lovely and George the gardener was very helpful with advise on the local sites to visit! You are situated perfectly to visit many of the local castles, sites and houses in the area. Although the houses and castles are closed at the moment due to Covid 19, it didn't stop us from enjoying the lovely gardens and walks that are now open. We even managed a trip to the coast to have a walk along the cliff and enjoy the view and then finish the day off with a coffee and shop in Edinburgh. All in all, a lovely cottage, and Julie was a very friendly host. Great for just chilling out away from it all or visiting the many attractions near by. We will definitely be booking again!

Pretty cottage, inside and out, in a beautiful and peaceful location.. Cottage had everything we needed and the wine and milk were appreciated. The towns of Selkirk and Melrose weren't far away for a good choice of food supplies, cafes, pubs/restaurants and shops. Plenty of walking/cycling/sightseeing close by and further afield. Definitely recommend Rose Cottage and the area.

The cottage was beautiful, sparkling clean and very homely.. There were also lots of little touches that made the arrival even nicer. The surroundings are stunning and there are lots of little villages within easy reach making this an amazing place to switch off and relax. It is clear the owner takes pride in their property and offers a fantastic service. We will certainly be back and look forward to it!

It would have been good to have a shower, however, there was plenty of hot water for the bath.. The bed was really comfortable, usually don't sleep well when I am away but I did this time.

Loved it! Every little detail was thought of- the owners left th way fire in for us and some lights as we got stuck in traffic and didn’t arrive until home midnight, with two young children! Was absolutely perfect, nice quiet and tranquil! Definitely would stay again!

Great place to stay. Kelso, Hawick, Melrose and Galashiels just a drive away. The village of Lilliesleaf is a nice walk for those that like to walk. A short drive for those who don't. Will be returning as it is a lovely place to stay.

We were made to feel very welcome.. Mrs Purves was very kind and her father had made a wonderfully warm fire ready for our arrival. The woodland setting was ideal and we really enjoyed our holiday, despite the cold weather.

We would not hesitate in recommending Rose Cottage to anyone looking for somewhere to stay to get away. The cottage has been refurbished recently and they have done such a good job. It's a beautiful cottage with lots of character. You can't beat sitting by the fire with a glass of wine in hand when the rain/snow beats down outside or sitting out the front of the cottage in the sunshine listening to the birds. It was far better than being at home listening to the traffic! We will certainly be looking to rebook when we next come to Scotland and we would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage to anyone looking for a getaway.
