Resting within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the village is known for its picture-perfect scenery and for its former position as a thriving port shipping tin from Dartmoor. Nearby, following the River Tamar upstream is Morwellam Quay, renowned for its role in the 1860s when half of the world's copper travelled through. Also within easy reach of Bere Alston is the city of Plymouth, with regular trains running year round.
