Property Description

Holiday home
River Cottage is a traditional, semi-detached sandstone cottage in the hamlet of Dalehouse on the edge of the historic North Yorkshire coastal village of Staithes. With one double and one twin bedroom as well as a family bathroom, this cottage can sleep four people. The rest of the accommodation is made up of a well equipped, fitted kitchen, a dining room and a sitting room with woodland views. Outside the cottage is a small enclosed, decked courtyard with furniture and a BBQ. With not only the stunning Yorkshire coast to explore, River Cottage is also on the edge of the North Yorks Moors National Park and so will appeal to all tastes.

Accomodation Details
Two bedrooms: 1 x double, 1 x twin. Bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC. Modern, well-equipped fitted kitchen. Dining room with French windows to small decked courtyard. Light, airy sitting room with views over woodland.

Area
The seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist's dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides and there is a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliffside to the sea's edge.

Region
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

Amenities
LPG central heating with electric fire in the sitting room. Electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, TV with FreeSat, DVD. Fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen inc. in rent. Towels not inc. in rent. Cot and highchair on request. Parking for one car in pub car park, additional parking in layby 50 metres along the road. Very clean and comfortable cottage.. Lovely walks straight from the door step.

Lovely, high quality cottage with walks from the front door.. Staithes is a short walk away (with steep hills!). Lovely area to explore. Only downside of this delightful place is the difficulties for taller people in the bathroom (sloping ceiling everywhere except the shower ... ouch!) and kitchen (very low cooker hood). Otherwise gorgeous!

A very well appointed Cottage in a nice quiet location.. There are walks from the doorstep and Staithes is within easy reach by foot. The Pub next door is very welcoming and comes highly commended with great home cooked food to be sampled. Note; we didn't suffer any disturbance at all so no worries there! We had a minor issue with the Shower which was repaired in a very timely manner - thanks. River Cottage provides an excellent base to cover this part of North Yorkshire and is well recommended.

River Cottage is very well furnished and equipped.. It is very comfortable and an excellent base for visiting the North Yorkshire coast and moors. The Fox and Hounds next door is very welcoming, excellent food, friendly staff and good cheap drinks - yes it’s still £1.80 for a pint of Bombardier.

We enjoyed our week near Staithes and Whitby, visiting several places in the area.. River Cottage is lovely and clean and thoughtfully laid out. The Fox and Hounds next door is nice and friendly and good value. There is an excellent view of the harbour in Staithes from the Cod and Lobster pub at the bottom of the village; well worth a visit even with a steep climb back up. We love this part of Yorkshire and the fantastic scenery.

Cottage was comfy clean and comfortable.. It was next door to the village pub, there was no noise and it was nice to be able to wander in knowing it was a short walk home. The pub itself had fine meals and good (inexpensive) drinks.the staff were most helpful. It was a short walk into Staithes and there were a number of coastal resorts up and down the coast to drive to. All in all a most enjoyable holiday.

Very cosy and comfortable cottage, it was lovely to come back to after a day walking.. The position was great, very secluded. I was unsure about booking somewhere next to a pub because of potential noise, but there was none whatsoever, in fact it was a particularly quiet location. The only negative point is that I was disappointed to be asked to pay separately for access to the wifi. I would expect it to be included in the rental cost. Wifi is particularly essential as there is absolutely no phone signal at the cottage.

Very well appointed cottage. Had everything we needed for a weeks holiday.. One down side was no washing machine, If travelling with young children this could be a hinderance.. Cottage is in a beautiful, quiet rural village, very peaceful. right next door is the only pub in the village(great food). River cottage was very clean with lovely decor, beds were very comfortable The cottage has wifi, which is an additional cost..Also you dont get a mobile phone signal, but there is a payphone in the house and the pub, so it is not really too much of a problem.

River Cottage is very well decorated though out, comfortable furnishing with nice homely touches. We need not have worried about the noise from the pub next door, they were very considerate, we never heard any noise at the end of the evening and we enjoyed a few drinks and a meal there during our stay which we can recommend.

River Cottage is in a quiet location ideal if you want to totally switch off as no mobile phone coverage. Next door to a quiet country pub offering good food. However if you have disabilities the double bed which is on the floor would not suit you as you cannot get up or down my wife and I ended up sleeping separate still having to put two single mattresses on one bed for her to manage. The shower over bath could be difficult as no holding rail to assist. The seater settee very low and if you sat on it even lower as was bed settee you disapeared in it. The cottage smelt damp on arrival but once heating on it was OK. Some of the crockery was chipped, oven dishes cracked and frying pans not nice so didn't use could do with throwing away. With just a little upgrade this place could be really comfortable and a place to return to.

April 2014
A really lovely cottage. Well equipped and cosy we felt very at home here. Some nice touches too with things like magazines and books for all to read. For us the only thing that let it down was the pub next door which aside from being very unfriendly towards us also created a large amount of noise on one of the nights with noisy loud smokers underneath our windows until the early hours. Aside from this we loved the location and the locals were so friendly we would definitely return.

March 2014
We loved everything about this holiday cottage. The overall size of the property was larger than expected and the layout was fabulous. The owners had thought of absolutely everything, could not ask for more. The décor was perfect. Location brilliant for exploring this part of the east coast by car or a short walk to Staithes. We would absolutely return to this cottage and would feel 100% confident in recommending to family and friends.

The cottage was in a lovely location, quiet yet adjacent to the local pub. A ten minute walk on Staithes meant we had a wider choice of eating and drinking establishments. Overall a lovely stay.

A delightful holiday cottage, extremely well equipped, and although next to the local pub, quiet and peaceful. The meals served were excellent although the only problem was that they stopped serving at 7.30.p.m. but there are plenty of options for eating out, the fish and chips near the pier at Saltburn and The Ship Inn at Saltburn are worth putting on your list. The cottage is ideally placed for Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Moors, etc. We used the cottage as a base for playing golf in the Redcar area and it was ideal. We would certainly recommend River Cottage for a quiet and relaxing stay.

Had a short break at River Cottage (3 nights) in early May. Thoroughly relaxing time and the cottage was beautifully appointed. Immaculately clean and good quality fixtures and fittings. Owners were a pleasure to deal with (my wife handled that!). They provided a high chair and travel cot for our 5 month old and a bottle of wine for the adults! Lovely location, pub friendly next door and the guest book revealed a good menu although we didn't eat there. Ideal spot to explore the Cleveland Coast - you can walk to Staithes, close to Whitby, Guisborough, North York Moors attractions, Robin Hoods Bay etc. No mobile signal was a blessing!

We went for a Christmas break, from the South the journey is normally 5 hours, however this was a bad day to travel on, i think we went on the 22nd Dec, the journey was 8 hours of stop and start traffic with a rammed full car and the kids in the back. So we got there in the dark all hungry and tired and in need of stretching our legs. We opened the door and hoped it would be nice, well, WOW, it was the cleanest holiday cottage we have had in the north east, there was a very welcome bottle of wine in the fridge and the Christmas tree was up with the lights on and a few lamps on around the house, it was beautiful !!! all mod cons very modern and up to date decor, everything was so clean. the area so blissfully peaceful, the pub next door like a step back in time but thats how these pubs should be, very friendly locals and landlady made us very welcome, especially on Christmas day while we had our turkey cooking next door we popped in for a drink. Totally reccomend this cottage and will be coming again. Two slight criticisms, would of been good to have a washing machine, more so if we had been staying for two weeks, andthe sofas, not the most comfortable especially the sofa bed extremely painful thing to sit in. But wold not put us off coming again, it was a superb first class, five star Cottage and location.

everything about this cottage is excellent, from it's comfort to its location. each room is well appointed and althought the garden area is small, it is more than adequit complete with patio table, chairs and bbq. the cottage was clean and the furnishings very good, there are two bedrooms one with a doublke and the other slightly smaller with twin beds. the location is very good, and handy for the moors and close to the coast. the pub next door is a bonus, the landlord and landlady make you very welcome, really good beer prices and the meals excellent. this cottage is a real gem and i would recommend.
