What a stunning property in an even more stunning location! Lovely sitting areas, bedrooms and big bathrooms and kitchen, which was really well equipped. Outdoor area is really lovely with plenty of seating to take in the peaceful and beautiful surroundings. Kayleigh is a fantastic host, friendly and informative. It was great to witness farming life up close, watching the dogs work along side their owners. There were four of us who stayed for a week, 26th July-2nd August 2024. Thank you for a great stay and we would love to return if you will have us! Thank you very much Kayleigh.

We stayed for two nights while walking in the area. The house exceeded our expectations. It is very spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped. The location is peaceful with some of the best views you will ever find. It is the perfect location to get away from it all but with Llandidloes close by to eat out or visit the shops if you need to. Although we only stayed two nights we would have loved to have stay longer! Highly recommend!

The setting of the cottage is stunning; very peaceful with no light pollution for stargazing on clear nights.. All that will disturb your sleep will be the odd owl. Directions from Llanidloes should be followed to the letter and satnav ignored - then it is easy to find trhe cottage. Kayleigh made us very welcome and we were sorry to have to leave.

I was sharing with Kayleigh (owner) as we were leaving that a sign of a good stay is that if you end the week having not needed anything it has to be good.. Previous reviews say it all really, the only thing that is hard to describe is the overall feel of the place, the views are not done justice by any photo and you need to climb one of the local hills to get the full picture of how isolated the location is. I cannot see how anyone would be disappointed by the Old House. The house is great in all aspects, location is great etc etc.

We loved our stay at The Old House.. We received an extremely warm welcome from Kayleigh, who together with her husband, made sure throughout the week that we had everything we needed. The old farmhouse was really well equipped and an extremely comfortable and relaxing place to stay in - we really felt at home. We loved collapsing in front of the blazing log burner at the end of each day. The views from the house are stunning and the attractive nearby town of Llanidloes has a great variety of independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. There are so many places to walk in the area - Llyn Clywedog is beautiful, with lots of walks, and the walk to the source of the River Severn was stunning (but strenuous), the Hafren Forest has so many trails. A short drive away from the house there are also small, attractive ruined castles and small towns to explore There is so much to do in the area and we couldn’t have had a better base from which to explore.

Although the pictures and description are very good the property and surroundings will take your breath away.. We were there in the midst of a storm so couldn't really venture out but the children still enjoyed as did the adults. Felt totally at home as soon as we arrived. Spacious, beautiful and loved the photo album of the renovations. I did try to discover a bit more information on the history of the house itself-so if i could make any suggestions it would be that-a little historical information on who lived there, what their lives were like etc The view is breathtaking and loads of outdoor space for children to play. Id certainly return.

This is the most beautiful place that we have stayed in Wales, and because of this we have stayed 3 times. The location is so peaceful and scenic and the dam is a must, there are lots of lovely walks and it's perfect for cyclists and very good food in the town. The owners are wonderful nothing is ever to much trouble, the cottage is very well equipped and cosy and spotlessly clean and well maintained if I could give 10 stars I would, we will definitely be going back again.

We liked it so much we came back. In the same year. On the basis that actions speak louder than words do I need to say more? If I do need to say more then I should make a special mention of the beautiful views from the house - the best form of therapy for us city dwellers. The House itself is spotlessly clean, comfortable and furnished with taste and love. The welcome from the owners is warm (and efficient). We love Llanidloes too. It's charming, friendly and attractive. Please don't do a big supermarket shop - you can get everything you need from really lovely high quality local shops (butchers, bakeries, green groccer, delis and even a fishmongers) and if you feel lazy there's at least one different pub for every day of the week and the three we have tried for food have all been good to excellent (The Angel, The Mount and the Unicorn). Then you can go for a tramp over the beautful local hills to work it all off.....

Fantastic views over a valley towards a dam.. Owner very pleasant and helpful.Narrow road leading to property,so take care.Elan Valley wonderful, weather just couldn't have been better so consider ourselves very fortunate. Visit Devils Bridge, almost 700 steps but ,(in my oplnion)worth the effort. Finally, yes I would stay at this property again.

Thoroughly recommend. Start and end your days enjoying the stunning views over the valley from the outdoor seating areas at the Old House. It is spotlessly clean, spacious and well equipped. Very comfy beds! The hosts are very hospitable and helpful but never intrusive. Llanidloes is a charming town with a surprising number of good food shops and an impressive number of welcoming pubs. I love the mid Wales countryside and there are plenty of day trips and things to do as well as walks.

Very, very happy to recommend the Old House.. The owners are welcoming, helpful and on hand if you have any questions or problems but certainly not intrusive. The Old House itself is very tastefully done and spotlessly clean. Thought and effort have obviously gone into making this a lovely home. It’s also very comfortable and spacious and well equipped. With a large living/dinning area (with wood burning stove) separate television room, large kitchen with table and a comfy sofa in the sunny entrance area there’s plenty of space for all guests to socialise together or to find their own space. There’s also plenty of outside seating where you will certainly want to sit and spend time admiring the stunning views over the valley. The location on a workingfarm in the beautiful mid Wales countryside is hard to better if you want to unwind and refresh. You will need a car. The charming town of Llanidloes is a short drive away - it has a surprising number of very good food shops (grocers, butchers, bakery, deli and fishmongers) and far too many pubs to have tried all of them in a week. The welcome was always warm and we also had good food, especially in the Angel. There’s plenty to do in the surrounding area in addition to the obvious walking. Our unexpected bonus was a trip to the Mid Wales Shooting Centre where some of us (but not all) discovered a talent for clay pigeon shooting. A very enjoyable week.

The location, the views, so peaceful.. The cottage has all you need except a butler. The hosts are very helpful. Only regret is we should have booked 2 weeks instead of 1. Fabulous place with plenty to do out & about or relax at the cottage.

Absolutely Wonderful house, the owners, Kayleigh and Stuart were very accommodating and helpful.. The house itself was immaculate and by far the cleanest holiday rental we have ever stayed in. The setting was very peaceful and picturesque. We had some brilliant days out, such as Devils Bridge, Aberystwyth, Powis Castle and Gardens, the amazing sight of the Red Kites feeding, the lead mine buildings underneath the Llyn Clywedog reservoir and dam and by far the best beach is at Aberdovey , well worth the drive, coming back every night to the stunning wood burning fire just made the days. I can highly recommend this house and the area.

This holiday " cottage" is exceptional. It is more like a home that has been made available to you by a friend. Immaculately clean, 2 bathrooms plus downstairs toilet, enormous kitchen with loads of seating and comfortable beds. The views from the house are superb.....watching the red kites soaring over the hills. Lots to do and see in the vicinity we visited Aberystwyth with it's amazing views, Dolgellau, the Devil's Bridge and waterfall is a must ...as long as you have strong knees. Machynlleth is a thriving little town, with so many interesting shops and great on market day.The hill road from Machynleth to Llanidloes is an absolute must, the vistas are amazing. Cader Idris and the nature reserve are beautiful and those younger than us can climb to to the top.So much to see and do we only scratched the surface. Kayleigh and Stuart are kind and friendly hosts. Lovely relaxed peaceful holiday.

We have just returned from our second visit to the Old House Holiday Cottage which for us was a first as we have never before returned to a cottage we have previously rented. So many aspects make this an exceptional property to rent for a holiday. Firstly, the location is perfect with magnificent views across the valley, the imposing Llyn Clywedog dam and is ideally situated for a peaceful relaxing time. The cottage is located on a working Welsh Hill Farm, and we were there towards the end of the lambing season. Our granddaughter spent early mornings watching the lambs skipping in the surrounding fields, actually the adults did as well! Secondly, and just as important, the owners, Kayleigh and Stuart, are extremely welcoming and pleased to help with nothing being too much trouble. The property is of a very high standard, there is plenty of space, the beds are very comfortable and the large galley kitchen is well equipped. All aspects of the Old House reflect Kayleigh’s attention to detail and perfection. Thirdly, there are plenty of outdoor places and activities to pursue. Llyn Clywedog, Hafren Forest trails, the Red Kite feeding station at Bwlch Nant yr Arian, the Vale of Rheidol Railway and the Elan Valley were particularly enjoyable and are all within an hour’s driving from the house. We would thoroughly recommend this as a rental property and holiday location.

This is a fabulous property in a wonderful location.. It's on a working farm and we were made to feel so welcome. Absolutely everything was provided...better equipped than my own home! The owners are a beautiful, hardworking family and they came to check on us over the week we there, just to see if we had settled ok etc. Wonderful property...spotless and good sized to suit 6 people. If we weren't moving to the area later this month, I would be looking to book all my holidays at The Old House. Peace and quiet, amazing views, fabulous house and lambs. Perfect x

The Old House was very spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The location is exceptional with views across to the Clywedog Dam and down the valley towards Llanidloes. Being located on a working sheep and beef farm provided additional interest, as the sheep were being sheared during our stay. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again. There is plenty to do and see in the area, with forest trails, reservoirs and dams, narrow gauge railways and spectacular scenery. We highly recommend this property and the local area.
