It is lovely, old cottage (with Baptist church behind the wall), with thick stone walls, crackling floors, and a smell of dry wood. The house was clean and cosy. We've found the bed very comfortable. The wi-fi signal was very good around all property. It was great to relax in the hot tub at the evening. The garden is fully enclosed, so our 2 medium/large dogs had plenty of space to play, and we felt safe that they wouldn't run away. Local people were very friendly. There are nice places for shorter walks along Llaethdy Brook and on steep, opposite slope of the valley, with stunning views from the top. The nearest shop and petrol station (the only one in the neighbourhood) is about 10 minutes away by car. We fully recommend this house for people, who like quiet, countryside holidays

This is our second visit to the cottage this year, first trip in June for a quiet weekend to celebrate a birthday and this time for a full week to enjoy a festive family retreat tucked away in the Valleys! On arrival the cottage was spotless, lovely and warm & the fire had been lit with plenty of additional fire wood and everything you would need to attend to the fire - extra wood also available in the shed if needed. Lovely walks on the doorstep with the dog and perfect for tiring out our busy 3 year old with scenic river walks and farm animals to spot along the way. Despite the -2 weather the cottage was toasty our entire stay and views were utterly picturesque coated in a layer of frost early mornings. We made some really special Christmas memories this week, with a scenic drive out to Aberystwyth for a frosty walk on the beach and a festive visit to Powis Castle to enjoy the magic under the twinkle of the lights, roaming reindeer and mulled wine in the courtyard - both places were really easy to get to from the cottage but what a treat it was to return to the log fire, put a film on and enjoy giant hot chocolates tucked away from the world! As far as the facilities go there was nothing we were short of, a really comfortable stay if you embrace the cottage and all it has to give. The owners, like our last visit were really helpful and went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed and feel really approachable if you do need anything at all. There's no doubt about it this lovely little cottage has stolen a place in our hearts and is our perfect retreat away from the busy way of life we are used to in the Midlands.

A last minute google bought us to Preachers Cottage, desperately needing a weekend away from the stresses of life and somewhere to celebrate a birthday together - we couldn't have found anything more perfect. It had EVERYTHING we needed and more, a little slice of heaven tucked away from the world. We explored the local walks with our dog, enjoyed fresh eggs from the (lovely) neighbour across the road and completely switched off to recharge for a few days with the added bonus of the hot tub. A welcome platter greeted us - lovely touch and so appreciated. Directions were clear and the cottage was spotless. Can't wait to return for another weekend in the future! 100% recommend!

Just had a 4 day break at the cottage very remote setting with not a lot around but ideal for our needs .Very quirky place and was spotlessly clean on our arrival .Kitchen has everything you need including dishwasher and washing machine ,lounge was comfortable and had sky tv and free wifi which was good as no phone signal.Power shower over the bath and main bedroom had a king size bed which was very comfortable and the window overlooked the farm next door lovely sight in the morning looking at the chickens and sheep wandering around yet very quiet .Outside the highlight is the hot tub which is under a roof cover so no matter the weather you can use it which we did everyday all in all nice little cottage to use as a base to discover the area but make sure you bring plenty of food and drink supplies as nearest shop is a 15 minute drive away .

A gorgeous cottage set in the countryside.. Cottage was very well set up with plenty of amenities, including microwave, dishwasher and washing machine (including washing tablets). Good wi fi connection but have to walk up the road a bit to get phone connection. Cottage very clean on arrival and hosts clearly following all covid recommendations. Best part for our family was the hot tub - used every day and LOVED it!! Didnt meet hosts due to covid restrictions.

We loved our week at the Preacher’s House.. There were lots of lovely walks in the local area and further afield and James gave us some great recommendations. The hot tub is brilliant and the shower was incredible! James and Rachel were wonderful hosts and we will definitely return.

July 2020
Lovely well presented cottage, just right for 2 adults and 2 children.. Fresh flowers in the kitchen, beds made up - just lovely. The garden is a little sun trap, with the hot tub as a great addition for the evenings! Just down the lane by the cottage is the most amazing stream, my kids spent hours playing there. The friendly neighbors said we could walk the length of it too! Things to note - lots of flies when we went, cant be helped, but we had to put up fly papers to get them. The shower is great, but almost too powerful for that bathroom, the water kept going everywhere as you couldn't adjust the force. The garden isn't secure for a little dog, big gaps they could squeeze through. The host, James, was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back.

We could not fault this cottage at all, despite there being a lack of wood available.. It is very well presented, comfy and has everything you need. The hottub was such a great part of our evenings. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back for definite.

January 2020
Absolutely brilliant little cottage in a rural area.. On arrival there was milk, coffee, tea and sugar. Fresh flowers were left in the kitchen, a starter pack of logs and firelighters. In fact everything I took was already provided, even washing liquid for the washing machine. James was a brilliant host, he told us the best places to visit, only a phone call away if we needed anymore logs or information. The hot tub was excellent. Unfortunately for us the weather wasn't great for our week but still visited the towns and shops. Would recommend to anyone who wants a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of busy cities. Enjoy.

Your website is the easiest to use when using the filter systems saving time and effort when searching for a let.. Regarding preachers cottage all immediate neighbours were extremely friendly and helpful in supplying invaluable information on the local dog walking facilities. Os map available at cottage was invaluable.

Unfortunately the attention to detail was not good the bathroom was mouldy and the shower screen hadn't been cleaned. When we first walked into the kitchen we were greeted by 2 fly papers hanging up which had looked very old and needed refreshing. The beds were so hard you could feel every spring we had to buy a air bed as we had such a terrible few days sleep which ruined 2 days of our holiday. The house could do with secondary glazing as the windows were wet every morning and you can hear next doors dog. Living in an old property myself understand how much this helps. The hot tub was good hence why I didn't give this a 1 rating. We were too upset by the last day to contact the owner.

We arrived at the cottage early evening and as described enclosed garden with steps leading to cottage. On entering the cottage it was very clean and had everything you needed. As we settled in for the evening we noticed a huge amount of house flies in the cottage, we went too bed and on getting up the next morning there were at least 30 flies especially around the fireplace in the kitchen. As the weather had been damp we thought this would be why. We went and got some fly spray and fly strips, it continued all week. We have spoken to James the owner who could not understand but said he would resolve this. Cottage does require a little tlc but overall is nice but we spent most of our holiday outside due to about 30-50 flies daily such a shame.
Mrs Hollins, September 2019
June 2019
The location is really wonderful and rural but easily accessed and not too far from Newtown for supplies.. The garden is fully enclosed for children and pets and is a little sun trap-we ate outside nearly every morning! All you can hear are the bees, birds and sheep-heaven! There is internet connection but no phone signal which was fine as we have whatsapp. The cottage is quaint and although dark inside, the owner has put plenty of lights in so it wasn't an issue reading etc. The kitchen was well equipped and the bathroom shower pressure was amazing! The hot tub was wonderful, especially after walking all day. The bathroom could do with a brighter light bulb and the light shade in the main bedroom could do with being flush with the ceiling but they were minor details. The Powys area is beautiful and unspoiled-I can definitely recommend a visit to Elan Valley and to Hafod for walks - our 2 Labradors had a fab time!

Loved the place because it was so well appointed and quiet. Nice to just relax. Ideal for a couple with children perhaps. Space for 4 people. Front and rear doors, nice kitchen/diner. CH & HW: simple to use wood burning stove if you would like. The place was nice and clean and welcoming. The neighbours were nice. Chickens and ducks wandering around. Friendly neighbourhood cat who took a shine. Local shop (main road, turn right) is excellent - even has a post office 1 day/week. Garage next door (cheaper than the supermarket) to shop. There are pubs and restaurants round about. Good for walking. Short drive to some stunning scenery Elan Valley. Would I book again - yes, no hesitation. All in all a well looked after cottage.

The cottage is in a nice and quiet location with all the amenities that you may need, ok mobile phone coverage is not the best, but you get high speed internet connections and even SkyQ.. the garden is enclosed on a split level which our dachshund loved. the house is comfortable with very comfy beds and clean bedding. the hot tub is spacious and the temperature is always on point. it was without a doubt a fantastic break away for us, made even better by Hames the owner who came to greet us personally, he is also very knowledgeable about the area and can point you in the right direction. once again thank you James and family for the wonderful break from Nuno, Paula and Balthazar the dachshund. we will see you soon again.

Ideal if you want to get away from towns and cities , it is quite a distance from a high street so you have to take groceries with you , but we absolutely loved it and would recommend to our friends, and a big bonus you can take your dogs..

May 2019
It is a very well appointed cottage.. Comfortable enough and the owners have maximised the space. Wood burning stove good experience; CH and hot water immediately available. Well lit throughout. Plumbing a minor problem - slow drainage but that's to do with the location and the owner did point it out. Quaint little hamlet with friendly locals - including the inquisitive cat which were warned about. Very relaxing. The hot tub looked inviting. Ideal place to relax for a couple or perhaps a couple with young children. Sky broadband was a bonus - also meant I could use an app for some phone calls - no mobile signal .... but if you went up to the top of the drive it suddenly improved. Does the place need anything extra? A lift perhaps

Brilliant hoilday, loved the fact we were in the middle of nowhere and spent really good quality time with the kids, plus the fact you get no phone signal was an added bonus to us! ! The owners of the property were brilliant, were in contact with us during our stay to make sure everything was OK and if we needed anything they also suggested places for us to visit so couldn't be any more helpful, over all very very happy experience and will be back very soon

We have just returned from a fantastic stay at Preachers cottage! The winter months really are a beautiful time to visit this hidden gem for complete relaxation. The owner greeted us on arrival, had the hot tub up and running and the log burner lit ready for us! The cottage is in an idylic area surrounded by nearby walks which we went on daily. For short drives around varying between 4 minutes and 20 minutes or further if you wish.. there are some beautiful places to walk. All information is well stocked at the cottage. Upon return, we continued the relaxation in the dream hot tub which is extremely high quality with a back, leg and feet aqua massager... perfect for after those long walks. All towels were provided and plenty of them. The cottage is situated in the countryside, the journey to it is breathtaking and the neighbours are equally adorable with chickens and ducks roaming. Their owl can be heard from the cottage and adds to the tranquility. The neighbour even gave us freshly laid eggs for our bacon sarnies, they were amazing too! We are frequent travellers and prepared for this self catering stay well. The cottage is equipped for your cooking needs and really is home from home. Take plenty of food, drink and be prepared with walking boots and warm clothing. We don't normally return to places we have already been to but this one is an exception and we will be returning. You wont be dissapointed! Ps our 2 little dogs loved it and didn't want to leave!

We had a lovely weeks holiday, very welcoming when we arrived. Brilliant to either stay put and enjoy the hills around for walking or for venturing out to explore all that Wales has to offer. Stately homes, waterfall and old steam trains. Reservoirs and old castles. loads to see and then back to the comfy cottage for a dip in the hot tub. well worth a visit.

Just got back from a week at Preachers Cottage and it is absolutely stunning! James and Rachel are the most amazing hosts and left so many thoughtful extras for us upon our arrival. They were so accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed to have a wonderful Christmas in this beautiful cottage. The cottage is so clean and well equipped and felt like home for a week. It was amazing to wake up to the beautiful views that Preachers Cottage boasts and there are so many beautiful areas to explore locally. The hot tub is absolutely wonderful and we spent many hours there listening to the birds or looking at the stars and the fact that it is covered means it can be enjoyed in any weather. We will definitely be re-booking and would recommend Preachers Cottage to anyone!

We are a family of 4 + 1 dog and have had a fab week. The cottage & surrounding area was lovely & the hot tub is an added bonus after the afternoon/evening strolls. We visited Elan Valley, Devil's Bridge, caught the steam train to Aberystwyth and went paddling in the stream & rock pools at Hafren Forest. There is plenty to see & do & we cannot wait to come back, in fact we all didn't want to leave. Thank you James & Rachel for sharing your lovely cottage.

Thankfully I was able to contact the owner as Sykes listed our party size incorrectly despite me calling to change.. This was the only issue we had with sykes. The booking process was quick and easy. The cottage was beautiful. Even nicer than the photographs. Every little thing had been thoughtfully considered by the owners and there were sweet little surprises too, such as fresh flowers in every room, toys, books, games, dvds, nuts for toasting on the fire, logs, cider, Welsh cakes and milk on arrival. The locals were really friendly and let us feed the farm animals, walk their beautiful sheep dog and gave us fresh eggs too. The hot tub is not overlooked at all and so lovely to relax in after walking days out. We'd highly recommend a stay in this cosy little cottage. The owners were really friendly and helpful and obviously take a lot of pride in their holiday cottage and making people feel welcome. Dog friendly garden too and swing ball for the kids in the enclosed garden with sun loungers for the adults. Would recommend a visit to devil's bridge and elan valley and the walk alongside the stream right by the cottage.

Great to be 'off grid ' with no reception or Wi-Fi! Very quiet and peaceful. Amazing hot tub- well maintained on a daily basis. Friendly and helpful owners. Close to wonderful places to visit- spectacular Elan Valley. Only downside was that the steps in the garden were a bit much for our poor old dogs arthritis! It didn't stop him though! Looking forward to rebooking for later this year.

We have had a fantastic three night stay at this beautiful cottage. We were a party of two young couples and we couldn’t of asked for anything better! The cottage was adorable! It’s was extremely clean and the owners had paid great attention to detail by even providing fresh flowers in each room. The outside area with the hot tub was an amazing bonus and the picnic table area and bbq was spent with plenty of card games in the sunshine. I was really pleased to find out I could cope a whole weekend without phone signal but you didn’t have to walk far if you wanted it. The log burner on an evening was fabulous and easy to use if you know how to light a fire. The owner of the cottage was really helpful, gave us all advice on where we could get phone signal if we needed it and how to light the fire etc. The only possible downsides and that’s if your really nitpicking is that the second bedroom was two adult bunks rather than a double but didn’t bother us at all. Overall an absolutely amazing and brilliant cottage hidden away in the countryside, I would definitely recommend this peaceful and wonderful cottage to anyone!

Myself and husband visited Preachers cottage along with our two dogs last weekend. What can I say it was a perfect break away to relax and enjoy some quality family time. It is situated in a small hamlet which has some great walks on the doorstep. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you would need. The log burning fire was a bonus coming back from our snowy walks and the hot tub in the evening was a huge bonus. Highly recommended and hope to be visiting again soon :)

Everything as described in the write up. owners very friendly and helpful, nothing to much trouble for them. fantastic scenery. Could recommend visits to The Elan valley. This cottage is a wonderful escape from it all.. Truly ‘off grid’ (on a winding country lane, without wifi or signal) you can leave the world behind you and avoid any distractions. My husband and I spent the week watching films and reading books by the fire in between walking the dogs and relaxing in the hot tub. James and Rachel were excellent hosts and we were especially impressed with how well the hot tub was maintained - it was regularly checked and treated. There are short walks on the door step to walk your dogs and plenty of beautiful places to visit nearby if you feel like venturing out, but equally it’s the perfect place to simply enjoy doing very little - perfectly tranquil and well equipped plus excellent value for money. We’d definitely reccomend taking a visit!

Excellent perfect cosy getaway ! We loved this petite cottage, the owners were very attentive and helpful, providing logs and maintaining the brilliant hot tub . The location is perfect for walks and a quiet escape. There is no WiFi or reception - for us this was defiantly a big plus-I took a 14yr old and 19 yr old they got on with each other brilliantly without phones and really loved the hot tub , games and walks. We cooked a Christmas dinner in the well equipped kitchen. Happy kids , happy dog, happy all!

Fantastic cottage well equipped and a wonderful setting, amazing views.. Especially liked the hot tub and log burner. James could not do enough for us given the exceptional weather as we were stranded due to the snow. He came out and made sure everything was OK and made sure we had everything required. I would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful cottage. We will definitely be returning as soon as possible.

Preacher's Cottage is a beautiful, cosy haven.. James and Rachel are commited to ensuring your stay is very comfortable and by far exceeded our expectations. The cottage is extremely well equipped. The hot tub is amazing and checked daily. The location is perfect for days out so its well worth checking the guest book and booklets for ideas. The welcome pack and fresh flowers were very much appreciated so a huge thanks for that. We go on lots of cottage holidays and this was by far the best place we have stayed. Everything about Preacher's is perfect. Huge thanks again to James and Rachel for making our stay so enjoyable. We will deginatel be back. Jules and Tony Kidderminster

February 2017
The owner was superb, met us on arrival even though we were late getting there.. Nice touches to welcome us, roaring log fire already lit, a large home baked cake, fresh flowers and a bottle of cider. The owner was very friendly and helpful, plus it was nice to get to know him and his family when he visited to check on the hot tub (note: he ensures the hot tub water stays in best condition by regularly popping in to check it, but he is only there a minute or two and does not disturb residents at all). The cottage is well kept with everything you need. Great location for walkers with a nearby Forest and stream walk just a minutes walk away. Large hot tub is great for relaxing in the evening listening to the wildlife and looking at the stars at it gets dark. The New Inn pub just down the road does a lovely Sunday dinner, the best home-made we have ever had. Everyone we met in the local towns etc were all so friendly. Many thanks for a relaxing week.
Mr Boulton, February 2017
January 2017
This was one of the best breaks we've had.. We generally do a 'Hot Tub' break around January/February time of year, and take the dog too, to get in some nice walks but at the same time relax. It was nice to be 'Off Grid'...there was enough selection of DVDs to watch, if that's what you wanted. It was cosy with the log burner and at £5.00 a bag in the honesty box was a nice touch. There was plenty to do places to visit, but If walking is your thing, then you are spoilt for choice. Star gazing in this area was magnificent so many too see as no light pollution. All in all 10/10 for the Cottage and all it's features.
Mrs Allan, January 2017
January 2017
This cottage is extremely comfortable and it has so much character.. It's like taking a step back in time as is the location as in a very small quaint (off-grid) hamlet. The log burner was very welcoming and efficient, the owners thought of everything, the cottage was very well equipped (including a new hair-dryer). The hot tub was very well maintained, clean and spacious. It snowed while we were there, the views from the cottage and the hot tub were beautiful. The owners are very friendly and gave us good tips of the best places to visit, such as the Elan Lakes; I would definitely recommend this as place to visit and there are lots of interesting places on the border and on Glyndwr's Way. There is lots of tourist information and maps for walkers in the cottage too.
Mrs Derrick, January 2017
December 2016
I have just came back from what can only be described as a truly amazing weekend away, the pictures of the cottage really do not do it justice, James and his family went above and beyond to ensure we have a lovely time, the welcome pack with the local products was fantastic.. The cottage itself had everything we needed to the point we didn't have to leave. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to escape the rest of the world for a few days.... I can't wait to go back :-) 10 out of 10

October 2016
A very well equipped cottage where the owners have gone 'over and above' to make the house special including fresh flowers in every room, even the garden.. The welcome pack was lovely to come in to (even a ball for the dog) and the owner was there to show us round upon arrival. Everything was spotlessly clean and there was an abundance of clean towels. The surrounding area is stunning and was especially beautiful as the leaves were changing colour. The hot tub was a real bonus after long walks. We would book the property again with no hesitation.

We had a fantastic stay at Preacher's Cottage.. Lovely welcoming hosts, lots of thoughtful touches for us to enjoy. Wonderful cosy cottage with modern decor and all mod cons/amenities needed. Lovely peaceful location and very friendly neighbours on the nearby farm who gave us lovely fresh eggs. Our son loved visiting farm and even helped to feed the animals and put them to bed. Lots of wonderful Welsh countryside to explore and the icing on the cake had to be relaxing in the hot tub after a long walk. This is by far one of the best UK breaks we have had. This is a little gem!

So relaxing and tranquil.. The owners of the cottage were a truly lovely couple who made the place feel so homely.
