Rhayader is a bustling town in mid-Wales' Red Kite country. Gardeners Cottage is one of 4 properties on the beautiful Glas Lyn estate just outside. It overlooks the river Wye with secluded walks along the tree lined bank (privately owned by the estate). The first time we visited we noted down more than 20 bird species from our breakfast table in the cottage garden! You'll get a warm welcome from Jonathan, Chee and especially their dog Freddie - on-site living in the big house. A couple of miles away is the Elan Valley - spectacular stack of reservoirs rising into the hills. If you fancy a small trout fishing water again a couple of miles will get you to the beautiful upland lake Lyn Gwyn (day tickets in Rhayader). A great holiday hideaway.

The cottage was lovely in a fantastic location, the beds were comfortable and the shower was really good, could do with an extractor fan as noticed paint was coming away from ceiling.. The rest of the furniture was very tired and the fridge was too small for five people we were only three and only just managed to get things in. Only minor things which can be rectified. But we had a fantastic stay and would definitely come back, dogs loved it. Jonathan and cheese lovely hosts.

Lovely holiday cottage.. Well-equipped, spacious, gorgeous location and good for a base to walk/ride around the local area. There is even a trail leading from the cottage grounds. No wifi which meant we could switch off completely for a week!

Lovely cosy cottage.. Our two dogs enjoyed lots of walks in the area. Wonderful to have the feeling of being away from it all but also being so close to local shops to get supplies. Richard and Chee very hospitable. Would certainly visit again.

The best points of this holiday are the location of the property on the banks of the river Wye, the local area of the Elan Valley and the friendliness of the owners..

If you want a quiet, tranquil, peaceful, holiday, in a nice cosy cottage, with a very secure enclosed garden.. (Safe for children and dogs) You will not get better than this hideaway in Llanwrthwl. Mobile phone signal almost none existence so no constant phone calls. Can highly recommend. I Wathan, (Anglesey).

We were pleasantly surprised by the standard of the Cottage, much larger and nicer than the photo’s give away, absolutely stunning setting with the Wye running through the Gardens.. Very friendly and welcoming owners and staff, couldn’t ask for more at a reasonable price. A good base to travel from for days out. If I was to criticise anything, it could do with larger towels and a better shower, but that’s not to say it was a problem, just a suggestion.

As the cottage sleeps 5 we felt that the fridge should be larger and it wd be v helpful if there were a freezer..

Although the weather was in our favour the cottage was well equipped if it hadn't been.. There was heating and a fire if it got chilly, a television should you need it and although we took games and books we didn't need either. All cottages have access to the river should you wish to fish or just walk. We stayed at gardners cottage which had access to a front garden whereas riverside cottage had access to the back garden - both very pretty with seating outside. There are two other cottage like chalets with the same amenities, called salmon and trout. I could have stayed in any, they all looked well presented, My only suggestion would be for lighter duvets in the summer months as the sloping roof meant it got fairly warm in the bedrooms at night. We found the whole holiday totally relaxing and the owners Jonathan and Chee and their dog Freddie very welcoming. We would most definitely return but next time I will be more aware that the welsh midges wear boots as big as the Scottish ones.

Very welcoming owners, very pet friendly.. Entry/exit to and from site can be a bit hair raising. Maybe needs something marking the entrance that can be seen easier on approaching.

Everything we needed for a family of 5 with a dog.. Loved every part of the holiday could not of asked for anything better then what we got. Everyone around us was very frendly. Walks along the river and views were mind blowing. Time away from everyday life this is the best place by far.
