Thoroughly enjoyed this idyllic home from home.. well appointed and thoughtfully furnished and decorated, the owners have done a lovely job of providing everything you need for a great and reaxing holiday. Following the coronavirus pandemic we really needed a break and this provided our "bubble" a great opportunity to recover some emblance of normality. the setting was beautiful and the weather perfect - i understand that this is normal for Wales!
In short, other than in an ideal world, having an extra bathroom, a larger fridge freezer in the pantry and perhaps a banister on the 3 steps on the landing (took a bit of a tumble in the dark - my fault!) the property really was perfect. The games barn was a particular hit in the evening too.
Loved it and I am sure you will too.

This is a nice holiday cottage with plenty of room and lots of garden for the dogs to play.. The games room is great for children and adults, we spent a lot of time in the games room.
The surrounding fields were free of livestock so we were able to walk in them with the dogs off the lead and perfectly safely.
The only issue was the wifi, we read in the cottage instructions that there is a 50g limit for the month, divided into weekly allowances. 13g of internet access is nowhere near enough for a winter holiday with 5 adults and 2 children all with their own iPads and watching online content. We did exceed the allowance, the owner did pay for more gigabytes of data and we were not asked to pay for the extra gigabytes, however, it did make us a little uncomfortable having to ask the owner to pay for more data and the worry that the 20g the owner purchased would not get used up again. It would have been better to give us the option of buying extra data at a fixed price so that everyone knows where they stand and we would not have felt guilty watching Netflix. I could not find any mention of data restrictions in the brochure or on Sykes Cottages website.
The data problem has not put us off the cottage though, it was a lovely holiday and we thoroughly enjoyed the week. The cottage had been thoughtfully decorated with Christmas decorations and a lovely tree, and there was cake, milk, coffee and tea waiting for us upon arrival.
We would definitely go back!

Absolutely loved everything about the place.. It made for a really enjoyable xmas week for our family of 6 adults and 2 children. Spacious, clean, lovely views and the games room was a massive hit for all.
I would however point out that the enclosed garden is currently missing a gate so nothing to prevent dog running away down the lane.
Also, and this is not a new thing. Sykes should make it clear on info when booking that dogs are not allowed upstairs at the property. This has now happened to us on 2 occasions that only on arrival have we discovered that dogs must be kept downstairs.
I would not have booked these properties had we known prior to arrival as it mean't one of us had to sleep downstairs with him as he is not used to being left downstairs on his own.

August 2019
We stayed in this cottage from the 3rd-10th August and we had such a relaxing getaway.. The fact you can walk around the surrounding fields is a great bonus. We had to contact the owner on one occasion for an issue with a tap and they were so polite and attentive it was a fantastic experience. The only down side (if you can call it that) is that with 3 boys that are ruled by their phones the internet is not fantastic and you need to be aware of the usage. The cottage and the surroundings where fabulous and we would definitely recommend. Massive thank you to the lovely Gaskell family for allowing us to stay in this wonderful property.

Cottage was everything we expected.. However there is not one piece of comfortable furniture in the house. All sofas were tired and the mattresses were like stone slabs . Two of our part ended with bad backs

Beautiful quiet cottage.. Perfect for getting away from it all. Supplied with everything you could think of. Even though it hardly ever stopped raining we had a fantastic family holiday. Our 3 granddaughters loved the games room, as did their parents. Beds a little firm for our family but this is just personal choice. We are already planning a return visit.

Total relaxation, wonderful views, if you want to recharge your batteries this is the place to go, lots of local amenities 10 mins away, Elan Valley is a must to visit the reservoirs are amazing and if you have dogs there are some wonderful walks around it, we will be returning..

Had the most amazing week away at byrdir cottage, was everything I expected and more, just stunning, on arrival we had homemade cake which was so thoughtful & delicious, the cottage was well equipped and had everything we could ask for, the open fires were idyllic, I just loved my stay here & cant wait to return, if your looking for a home from home relaxing holiday this is perfect & I couldn’t recommend it more, Thankyou so much for a lovely stay..

April 2019
The cottage was lovely, a little snug but perfect for the five of us and the dogs.. The owners were very welcoming and sorted a minor issue for us straight away. The games room was perfect for rainy evenings although fortunately the weather was really good so we didn't use it as much. Will definitely come back.
This is a perfect home away from home.

December 2018
A really delightful cottage in a a quiet, scenic area.. The cottage was comfortable and well equipped to cope with a full house and cater for Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. The games room was an added bonus and kept us all amused in the evenings with the log burner providing a warm cosy environment. The only down side was that the bedrooms were on the small size but not much you can do about that in a traditional Welsh farm workers cottage. Some WiFi issues were quickly resolved by the owner. For a family get together Byrdir cottage was just perfect and I would definitely recommend.

November 2018
A lovely cottage in a rural and remote setting.. Lovely and clean, the owners are very accommodating. On arrival we had a lovely home made cake and fresh milk to enjoy. Elan valley not too far away for beautiful picturesque walks and the games room at the cottage was entertaining for days when the weather was not so good. Overall a very enjoyable break.
Mrs Horne
October 2018
The cottage is in a perfect location to explore the surrounding countryside and the Elan Valley in particular.. The Red Kites can be seen in abundance, often so close you can see the detail on the underside of their wings, simply spectacular.
The cottage itself is warm and welcoming with its gorgeous log fire and spacious living area. The games room is a definite plus for family entertainment in the dark evenings of Autumn after an energising day exploring. I've never been to a more well equipped self catering cottage. It's so good to be able to go away without worrying about bedding and towels and be able to wash the dirty walking clothes before going home. Superb, thoroughly recommended.

September 2018
The view from the cottage was brilliant, the peace and quiet, the games room was Ideal in the evenings.. We were lucky with the weather, warm and sunny all week. The home made cake and wood fire on arrival was marvellous, the only downside one week wasn't long enough. Byrdir cottage is perfect, exactly what we wanted. Just one small thing look out for the lady in a red car who seamed to think the lane at the bottom of the drive was a racetrack, (no problem with noise the drive is a long way from the lane)
Mrs Fletcher
September 2018
Picturesque cottage in beautiful location.. Red kites flying around cottage. Games room a bonus if you have a family. Garden secure for our little doggy. Everything you need within the cottage. Mobile phone signal hit or miss. I got signal and I am on Three but my husband who is on Virgin did not. Internet as described is on a mobile signal through EE but we only got it on the Saturday night and not for the rest of week. They request that you do not use it for streaming. We tried to ring owners and left message but no call back. Also if you use more than the allowance they would contact you and ask that you leave an extra £10. Tea and cake a nice gesture when we got there. A very pleasant weeks holiday.
Mr Ferguson
September 2018
A tranquil retreat away from traffic noise with a games barn if the rain sets in.. Byrdir, is set back along a private narrow rack off a minor single track lane. The cottage is comfy, clean, and well equipped, with the best games room facility we've ever had at a holiday rental property, a welcome bonus if put off from the great outdoors by the weather. The owners are close at hand if needed and left a good variety of local information and guides to look through.
If you need facilities on the doorstep it's possibly not for you. However, the nearest shop, (and Greggs!), is only a short drive on the main A470 away.
The welcome cake was a memorable treat along with the "get you going" supplies of milk, coffee, tea, etc. A return visit already on the agenda.

We travelled as two families and two dogs to this beautiful home in the middle of farm fields. The cottage is spacious, inviting, cosy and beautiful - the games room is fabulous for the children. The log burner was a massive hit considering it was snowing and - temperatures outside. The setting is beautiful, fields and hills as far as the eye can see. The owner is welcoming and accommodating. Wish we could have stayed longer. Will definitely be returning.

Thrilled with my stay at Byrdir Cottage.. Despite being a very last minute get away, it took less than 10 minutes on Sykes to find the perfect property and make arrangements. 36 hours later I pulled up to Byrdir and could not be happier with what I discovered. A quiet and private location with stunning views and very comfortable accommodations. The cottage comes with everything you need to feel at home, and is in a superb area to explore the beauty of Wales. Waking up to resident red kites was a treat and walks from the cottage were plentiful. Luckily I had both sunny days and rainy days during the stay, which allowed for both expeditions out and about as well as relaxing times in front of the fire with a cup of tea, a good book and the homemade banana bread that welcomes you on arrival. I will most definitely look to return to Byrdir cottage for future get aways.

We travelled as two families consisting of 4 adults and 4 children with Buddy the dog.
The cottage is spacious, warm and in the most picturesque of locations - away from it all!
The owners are friendly and helpful and keep the place beautifully, providing lots of added extras to make your stay enjoyable.
The games room is huge and a real bonus for cosy nights in as a group.
I would gladly stay at the cottage again and was sad to leave to go home.

I like searching for cottages with Sykes - the 'search' options make it really simple! Bydir cottage is our favorite cottage yet! The photo's on the website sold it to us, but the cottage is even better when you arrive! We were in the middle of nowhere in beautiful countryside and yet only 15 minutes away from shops. The cottage was lovely, very well equipped and a real home from home. The games room was a fantastic bonus! We would love to return! Thank you!

We stayed over October half term with friends, four adults, four children. First impressions on arrival were excellent. Beautiful tucked away location, very clean , tidy and welcoming. The fantastic homemade cake was amazing! The huge separate games room was a real bonus and spent many hours in here with the kids. the property is spacious and it never feels like you are on top of each other. The only downside is having the one bathroom as it makes for slow progress getting out in the morning! The extra cost of £5.00 for towels per person seemed an unnecessary extra expense especially given the fact they are waiving this from 2017! No wifi or 4g/3g but that was good as the kids couldn't use their gadgets! Surrounding area truly lovely, well worth visiting the Elan valley, great pub, the Triangle in town.

A really homely place, a lot of thought has gone into making it welcoming. There were comfortable places to sit and look out onto the fields, or watch TV. The games room is great, perfect if it rains or for an evening in. It is a really warm property with lots of hot water and three wood burning stoves. It is a great base for walks, cycling or driving around the beautiful countryside. Loved our stay there.

Perfect relaxing environment in a secluded and private spot, with plenty of space for a family. The games room was excellent, with a good choice of games and things to do. The table tennis table was our favourite. The outside space was absolutely beautiful and we really enjoyed relaxing around the large table and chairs on the large patio. The owners have thought of everything. It felt like a home from home immediately. Thank you for a memorable holiday. Everyone enjoyed it tremendously!
