This delightful village has won "Wales Best Kept Village Award" several times and is situated at the heart of the beautiful Montgomeryshire countryside, surrounded by rolling farmland and wooded hills. Visitors can experience scenic rides on the Welshpool and Llanfair light railway. The county town of Montgomery has a fascinating history with shops and Michelin Star French restaurant. Visitors can explore the ruined castle and walk to the prominent hill fort to get a panoramic view of the River Severn valley. The whole area provides a variety of scenic walking and cycling as well as fishing, clay pigeon shooting, canoeing and quad biking opportunities. Visitors can explore the ruins of the ancient Motte and Bailey castles situated close by in the beautiful old county town of Montgomery, and in the hills above the village of Abermule, or experience scenic rides on the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway. The nearby Glansevern and Gregynog Halls and Gardens are well worth a visit, or take excellent scenic walks along national walking routes, including Offa’s Dyke and the Severn Way. Day trips to the delightful Aberdovey on the stunning Cardigan Bay coastline provide wonderful holiday memories and the area is a paradise for watersport enthusiasts, not to mention hikers, with Snowdonia National Park also within easy reach. The beautiful areas of Ludlow and Shrewsbury in nearby Shropshire are also worth a trip and make the village of Berriew a wonderful location in this beautiful part of the country.
