We were a medium-sized extended family group not knowing what to expect, but on arrival were pleasantly surprised with what was on offer as the price had been so reasonable. The large detached house has been modernised to a high standard with double glazing throughout among other improvements, and I gather more are in the pipeline. In particular there are multiple large tables for dining, study, sewing or whatever - if you want to host the Wannsee Conference while on holiday, this is your spot! Double attic bedrooms are ideal for teenagers wanting to disappear into a space of their own. Very large and really quite charming private lawned garden at the back - is camping allowed if needed? - we wondered, but in the event didn't need to so didn't ask.
The village itself has nothing exceptional to recommend it but is well-placed for the island in general and the beach in particular thus is quiet, safe and convenient. There is a dedicated road leading to the main beach car park which will suit the families, but don't feel obliged to get in your car along with all the others - instead, get yourself an OS walking map then head down into the village and out via the fields and woods. It is easy to spend several hours exploring the long stretches of beach from Malltreath Sands to Abermenai Point, as well as wending slowly round LLanddwyn Island, which might need to be paddled across to at high tide.
Thanks again to David and Fiona for their hospitality, a very enjoyable week's holiday.
