Area
Borth y Gest is a quiet Welsh seaside village of mainly Victorian houses retaining much charm and character. Located by the mouth of the River Glaslyn, and a short drive away from the Italian styled village of Portmeirion, this pretty Welsh village has stunning panoramic views over the sands and estuary to the historic Harlech Castle and the Snowdonia National Park beyond. This North Wales village has two bistros and a coffee lounge all located on the front overlooking the bay and all with dog-friendly outdoor seating areas; perfect places to while away the hours watching the comings and goings of the local boatmen. Borth y Gest, with its sheltered coves and sandy beaches, has walking in abundance; why not head up Moel-y-Gest or take a wander over the headland to the famous Black Rock Sands, or go a little further afield where the vast Snowdonia National Park awaits? For a day out you can take a trip on the famous Ffestiniog Steam Railway and Welsh Highland Railway from Porthmadog, only a 15 minutes' walk away, or for those with younger children why not visit the shorter but more child-focussed Welsh Highland Heritage Railway? For a day trip the entire Llyn Peninsula calls. With Anglesey within reach and the whole North Wales coast with the Wales Coast Path to be explored, Borth y Gest has it all: a quiet bolt hole but conveniently located for ease of access to this stunning area, a must at any time of the year.

Been here several times, the location is an absolute dream! The house is well presented and has everything you need. The beds are comfy and everything was very clean every time we visited. The views from the kitchen are stunning, its incredible how much the weather can change in a short time, and sitting at the window watching the tide come in is just the most peaceful and relaxing past time. The beaches around the corner are brilliant for dogs and never too busy, the little bistro a few doors down is really good too. Our dogs loved walking in the bay too, it's just a perfect piece of heaven.

My family (myself, husband and two children aged 3 and 6) had a great halfterm visit to Plas Mor. The house is really well kitted out for a family break-comfortable sofas, well equipped kitchen for self catering, and a picnic bench in the garden for sunny evenings. We enjoyed simple pleasures, playing on the beach in Borth-y-gest, and wandering along the coast path to the bigger beaches. There is a play area up the hill behind Amanda Terrace, which was great for whiling away early morning starts with the children. They also loved crab fishing from the harbour in Porthmadog. We followed this with fish and chips from Allports (which we ate in the park-yet another play park!). A nice day trip was the steam train out to Tan-y-Bwlch, where there is a little play area and tea shop. The grown ups enjoyed beautiful running and walking routes nearby, icecream from Sea View cafe, and beer from the Purple Moose brewery.

Scruffy foldaway bed stored in front of window in bedroom. Dirty windows. Smelly bathroom. Big gaps between some floor boards. Very dilapidated and uncared for house attached (looked abandoned but could here music from it later in evening). Sykes Holiday Cottages very unhelpful when we contacted them - in fact didn't express regret about our concerns and even implied that we had made them up.

It would have been lovely to have had up to date info both in the house and on the website about facilities.. Also a bit more about things to see and do, and maybe history of the cottage.Accurate info on parking would have been useful. Please take as constructive criticism because the cottage was really lovely and when I had occasion to ring Menai cottages the lady I spoke to was very friendly and helpful.

Only complaint is the double bed is quite small and the duvet is too thick.. Otherwise perfect. It might help if there was a note somewhere of what to do with the main rubbish. The views are totally amazing and all the equipment is first class
