It is possible to travel by steam through the breathtaking scenery of Eryri (Snowdonia) to Blaenau Ffestiniog or Caerforn from Porthmadog, the entrance to the Snowdonia National Park. Porthmadog also has a number of unique shops and restaurants. Borth Y Gest, a charming seaside village with cliffs and coves, is only a short drive or walk away. It's only a short drive from here to Portmeirion, the world-famous Italianate seaside resort. Portmeirion, the setting for The Prisoner and the final episode of Cold Feet, sits on a rugged clifftop on its own private peninsula surrounded by miles of sandy beaches and woodlands. Criccieth and Harlech castles, as well as unspoilt beaches such as Black Rock Sands, can also be found in the area.
