"Property is up a very steep and narrow road so not easy to access."
Oven, hob and dishwasher all need replacing and grill pan was dirty. Moved sofas to hoover before we left and it was filthy, old dog biscuits, dog hairs (not ours) dust, hair bobbles and bits of paper. Good sized secure garden bathrooms good and clean. Could do with better pillows on beds.

"The property was fantastic, setting a beautiful area Thank you very much, we really enjoyed our stay"
-
"The house was not cleaned on our arrival, no bedding changed or clean towels provided."
The owner lied and said that Sykes had not informed them of the booking. The whole house needs a complete deep clean. Broken patio door, broken dirty water filled dishwasher, broken garden furniture, bins full to the brim, broken bathroom tiles and bath panel, filth, grime and dirt everywhere, I could go on. The owners refused to refund us and lied that they had addressed our issues during our stay when they didn't. Please avoid if you are looking for a pleasant, clean and well maintained property.

"This is a lovely, family sized, dog friendly cottage."
It is my home from home and I love going there for some R&R. There are lovely views from the front and back, up and downstairs. There are lots of excellent walks all around, both in the countryside and along the coast. Whatever the weather there is lots to do. The cottage is warm and cosy when it needs to be. Over time I am noticing that there are a few things that need the owner's attention and most of these have been picked up by other customers. I would always suggest that owners stay in their properties for a week and see what it is really like to live there and what could be added or changed to improve things.

"Nice place to stay"

"The house is in an ideal location for a quiet relaxing holiday with a great secure garden for a dog."
After reading previous reviews we were anticipating that the cleaning and issue with the en suite door had been addressed. However, they had not. The cleaning in particular was a big disappointment. The oven trays were covered in thick grease / fat and had to be thoroughly washed before use. The waste bin in the lounge hadn’t been emptied, containing cigarette butts and other items. There was no anticipated welcome pack apart from a small bottle of milk, a few teabags, small amount of lumpy sugar and the coffee container just had dried grey remains of powder. Photos in ad showed a basket containing a bottle of ‘bubble’ ! There was no starter pack for the fire either. The outdoor general waste bin was full although the recyclable containers were empty. A pity there wasn’t a supply of bin bags or at least a reminder to people to bring their own. The owner really does need to sort out these issues because the frequency of the adverse comments will eventually discourage people from booking this property and that is a shame for such a well located, comfortable property.

"We absolutely loved our stay."
The gardens were perfect for my kids and dogs. The house is great for families the location is perfect only 5mins drive to the supermarket and 10mins to the beach. We would definitely come and stay again. The pub around the corner was also great for food when you want a treat night. Thank you

"Maes Yr Haf is the perfect little home from home."
Comfortable and cosy with everything you need including a large garden for the kids and fantastic views of North Wales in all directions. The owner was very helpful with a couple of minor issues we had with the facilities and was there almost immediately to sort them out..thanks again. The only thing I would say is ensure your vehicle is in good condition to tackle the winding uphill roads to get to the cottage from the village. I had to use first gear in some places but I like a challenge and the views of the coast are definitely worth it. There’s something for everyone. Enjoy!
-
"Great place to stay, had quality time with the family and our dogs Buddy and Dolly."
The ensuite door didn't close so the floor got quite wet, and we couldn't get the hob to work. Despite this we would highly recommend this property and we intend to return in the future.
-
"Lovely house, lovely location and a nice safe enclosure for the dog to play and roam."
Just needs a bit of investment and a thorough clean to make it excellent. We had an issue on the first night but it was sorted within the hour. Very close to Prestatyn retail park (Tesco and Aldi). 10 minutes to the beach. Lovely and quiet at night. Would definitely book again
-
"Great holiday in a beautiful house with fully enclosed gardens so my dog was safe and happy to run around."
Location was in a beautful country village. 10 mins drive to central Prestatyn or Rhyl for all major amentities. House was very comfortable, hot water available at all times and came fully equipped with all necessities. Perfect base for family holidays and would highly recommend this house.
-
"Nice spacious house in a lovely setting with very large fenced garden ideal for the dogs to run around and lovely and quiet at nights."
We had issues with no hot water and a faulty toaster however owner was very prompt in rectifying the situation. My only issue was that the property could have done with a thorough clean. The windows and kitchen floor were dirty and the crockery and glasses hadn’t been washed properly which resulted in us having to run them through the dishwasher before use. Upstairs would have benefitted from some waste bins in the bedrooms.

"Excellent week very clean and the dog loved the garden there was not a minute ..."
Excellent week very clean and the dog loved the garden there was not a minute she wasn't in the garden very cosy will be back thanks
-
"Fantastic place to stay - spacious enclosed garden great for our dogs."
location was perfect for us 5mins from the beach - welcoming pub in walking distance - the whole house was superb and met all our expectations. A credit to the owners - thanks - we will and have recommended your place.
-
"Oil leaking from heating boiler resulted in unpleasant smell on landing, bathroom & patio."
WiFi reception very intermittent. No instructions on how to operate heating. Most windows dirty inside. Good value for money; have stayed in much worse!
-
"A well furnished and equipped cottage in a lovely setting."
Great views all around and lots of walks. Enclosed garden for dogs and children. Very peaceful and relaxing. Having no instructions for the heating was a problem. As several kitchen items were damaged or missing, I suggest that the owner does a full stock take. Overall, an excellent property.
-
"Loved our time at the cottage, great for kids and very secure for our dogs, no fear of them escaping."
Clean and a home from home. Would highly recommend. All it needed was a swing/slide play area in the back garden. But it truly was a great break away thank you.
-
"Amazing house and gardens"
-
"Very pleasant property, great location for local walks and exploring North Wales."
Garden was great for our dogs. All facilities were good and property was great value overall
-
"Our second stay at this property."
It is in a great location and the garden is totally secure which is a plus for our dog. The house is spacious. Pity the village pub doesn’t allow dogs inside so we gave that a miss and went to the next village. We would certainly stay here again.
-
"Although we encountered a few minor problems whilst there with the kettle and dishwasher."
The owner was quick to fetch us a new kettle and the dishwasher was repaired next day. Couldn't do enough to help apart from this the cottage was great and the local pub the Eagle and child serves fabulous food.
-
"House is in a great location and enjoyed the beeches close by with great walks."
The general cleanliness was poor . No starter pack for the fire . Only one bin liner left . One tea towel not enough in my opinion. Tap in bathroom broken , was reported in December 21 with rusty bath panel not very inviting so didn’t bother using the bath . Bed sheets stained again not very inviting. Had to step over rodent Poo to get in the front door not great. Cobweb’s in bathroom . Downstairs toilet tap broken . Bulbs not working in kitchen. No access to a light at the back very frustrating. Batteries flat in tv remote . The place is in need of some T L C This feed back is to help the owners if they want people to rent out their property in the future, also it’s not great that when feed back is given it’s obvious it hasn’t been addressed. We won’t book this house again unfortunately and it’s a shame as it’s located in such a lovely place .
-
"Wonderful holiday cottage."
Really enjoyed our stay. Ideal location for touring round North Wales. Very peaceful. Hope to book this cottage again in the future.
-
"Fabulous stay during a heat wave, great local walks."
Quiet family time, it was lovely. Great house and the Beds are very comfy
-
"Property was beautiful, the only problem we had was when we booked it stated there was a games room but this was not the case."
There was a small note in the property stating games had been taken away due to covid. We booked on the understanding the games room was available, no note on booking at all so I feel this is false advertising and we were miss led, we would not have booked the property if a games room was not available as we had two children with us and a games room is handy in bad weather. We had to go purchase some toys as we had not taken any with us. Please alter your description of the property, surely this type of description is classed as false.
-
"This is a stunning property and the large garden is completely safe and secure for dogs."
Our two little Morkies had the time of their life playing and chasing each other around. Perfect peace and quiet in wonderful countryside with the local beaches and shops within easy reach. I noticed that a couple of reviewers had said that the local pub did not allow dogs even outside. This was not our experience. We (and the dogs) were shown into the large marquee (lit by fairy lights) at the back of the pub and made very welcome. Excellent food. We can recommend this holiday property most highly and certainly plan to visit again.
-
"The property was perfect for a family of 4 and a grand parent if you have young children the bunk beds are great."
Lovely garden and plenty of room inside, the views are amazing and the place was very clean when we arrived.. We had a small incident with shower door where some glass came loose after reporting this issue it was fixed the next day.
-
"Great location as we have family in Prestatyn, loads of room for the dogs to play, all rooms were lovely with plenty of room in the lounge to relax after some long dog walks."
...
-
"Beautiful peaceful holiday cottage, very clean and comfortable, we stayed for a week in March with our two dogs and had a lovely time, enjoyed walks from the house as well as exploring further afield, would definitely recommend and stay again in the future."
-
"We really enjoyed our stay in this spacious and warm house."
It feels remote but only a short trip to major shops and supermarkets. Garden safe and fully enclosed for dogs. Wonderful pub only 10 mins walk away and serving great bar food. Lovely outside seating areas where dogs are welcome. Had the pleasure of meeting the owner who is really lovely too. This is one to return to.
-
"Lovely peaceful stay, fantastic property."
-
"We pointed out to the owner on arrival that the property stunk throughout of curry, obviously it had not been aired correctly and took days before the smell lifted."
We bought candles, air fresheners etc to alleviate the smell which was most unpleasant reaching the bedrooms and impregnating all our clothes and the bedding. The plastic tablecloth in the kitchen still had rice remains on it, it was also torn and very scruffy. The chairs in the kitchen badly stained. Tap in bathroom has operation handle missing. The en suite tap was lose which is a known health hazard for bacteria. The shower was not useable as the door would not shut properly causing water to spread over en-suite floor. Most noticeable was the radiators in the master bedroom, en suite and bunk room hardly working. In fact the heating would only come on for a short time then turn off with no apparent thermostat. It was really cold and we had to rely on the woodburner, fuel of which we provided most of. The owner did explain that someone had smashed the glass and he had only just repaired it and not replaced the fuel for it. The garden was wonderful for the dog, however, we had to secure the front gate with some tape as it continually blew open this needs a simple loop latch to secure. All these things need addressing to make the house truly comfortable as it is in a lovely position. There should also be a note on your site that the pub does not accept dogs even outside.
-
"Having stayed all over the UK, this property is our new number one for location."
It was exactly what we needed. Close enough to shops etc but out of the way also. Perfect for us and our dog. Reg absolutely loved the enclosed garden and it gave us complete peace of mind when letting him out. There are walks out of the front door and the beaches nearby were perfect for us. Our dog can be reactive so it’s important for us to be somewhere out of the way so he can be relaxed etc. The local boozer was decent enough food at a very good price and the beer was good also. We will 100% be booking to go back to this property. We didn’t need to contact the owners throughout our stay but I’m sure if we had to they would of been brilliant. They left us a nice welcome card. Can’t recommend enough.
-
"The cottage is in a great location with beautiful views and lovely walks."
Great local, cosy pub just a short walk away and 5 mins drive from shops and beach. Cottage was beautiful, very clean and modern with everything you need. Great secure garden for pets to run around in and for kids to play. Stayed with my husband, our 2 kids, my parents and our 2 dogs and was the perfect size for us all. Small welcome gift and card was a lovely personal touch from the owners too! Great New Years break and would definitely recommend and would love to return in the future.
-
"What a lovely property to stay in, lots of room for the family and our dog."
Lots of route for walking and running, peace and quiet and superb scenery, ideal for switching off and recharging. Everything you need is there in the property, any issues and a quick call/text to the owners and all quickly resolved and answered. If I could I would move and live in this property.
-
"What a beautiful holiday home in beautiful surroundings."
I would definitely recommend this property to other people and would definitely return. Had a very relaxing and nice holiday.
-
"A lovely house in a great location for us and very spacious."
Good enclosed garden for our dog however front gate and side gate did not stay shut. House needs a bit of tic. Bath tap broken, bath had rust marks and not very clean. All sink taps were loose or broken. Log burner had not been cleaned out so our first job. The hoover bag was so full and no replacement bag anywhere. No instructions for washing machine and it would have been helpful knowing which switch did back outside light. Nice idea with torches but all needed new batteries. Not the owners fault but we picked up 4 lots of dog poo from the garden that wasn’t our dog’s. Having said all this we would definitely book again and look forward to returning in 2022.
-
"Fantastic place really enjoyed the stay."
Peaceful and lots of walks. Great local pub just around the corner Thank you
-
"Maes yr Haf is a lovely holiday cottage."
It is warm and cozy, has everything you need, a great garden for dogs and children and is set in lovely countryside near the seaside. We had a perfect holiday and can't wait to go back. Thank you!
-
"A fabulous house in a fantastic location."
Close enough to “nip to Tesco” & far enough away to walk 5 miles across the hills and not see a soul. Great enclosed garden for the dogs with miles of nature trails on your doorstep. Ten minutes drive to the beach. Five minutes walk from the pub (with great food). We would highly recommend this property to anyone, our best staycation yet.
-
"Brilliant place to stay if you want to get away from everything and forget about work."
Within walking distance of a great pub but you do need a good torch to get home in the dark.
-
"Beautiful house."
Excellent rural location so peaceful and quiet. Only 5 minutes away from major supermarkets and retail park. Very secure for dogs and children. Massive wrap around garden once front gate secure. Entertained by cows next door. Lovely scenery and walks from door. Highly recommended but I see the prices have risen almost 70% next year! Thank you.
-
"This cottage is stunning and should be a higher rating as in stunning location , rural but within 5 mins from Tesco, Costa coffee, M&S, River Island, Next Boots/pharmacy and shop , poundshop, TKMax and many more."
Lovely walks around the area. Inside property is better than photos as oak wood really sets the rooms off and are kept so clean and tidy. The ensuite shower is so so lovely. My two dalmatians loved the enclosed garden at the front and again from back and the Eagle and Child pub within a 2 minute walk is definately recommended. A perfect find in such a lovely setting and village. Thankyou so much for letting us stay at your beautiful house/cottage. We cannot wait to come back. From Harold and Lynda.
-
"The cottage was as usual brilliant and I will be booking again next year"
-
"Lovely house in a great setting."
Lots of land at the front and back, all fully enclosed if front gate shut. As per a previous review just needed to put something by side of garage for our Yorkshire terrier as he's small. Then so happy to let him out to roam. The house itself was lovely and close enough drive to the beach/amenities. Pub in the village 5 mins away. Lovely setting too. Golf club at St. Melyd short drive away - lunch lovely. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to go back next year.
-
"We love this cottage."
It's our second visit here. The peace and tranquility is super. The cottage is very comfortable. The garden is lovely and private and secure for our medium sized dog. Just beware for owners of very small dogs that they could escape under the gate to the LH side of the garage, this could do with securing. Another lovely stay, matched by a week of great weather. We hope to return again. Thank you.
-
"Great place to stay."
House was beautiful and the gardens were amazing and fully secure for our 2 dogs as one is reactive.
-
"Lovely cottage."
So peaceful. It was clean and smelt fresh on arrival. The beds were comfortable.Wifi was great also.Would definetly recommend this cottage even if you are not a dog owner like we are.Couldn,t smell dog at all.Beautiful surroundings and walks.Pub is 15 min stroll up the road. The food is great. My son said the lamb shank was fantastic and my daughter loved the vege options.Only thing i would change and this is nothing related to the cottage. The road as you leave the driveway to come onto the main road needs a access mirror for traffic as it is a blind bend.We almost got hit twice by people going too fast.
-
"Lovely place, great setting, neat and tidy although sofas and carpets could do with a freshen up, we did miss a tumble dryer as it rained a lot."
Enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.
-
"As other reviews have all said, the best thing about this property is the garden for kids and dogs."
Lots of land at the front and back, all fully enclosed so happy to let the dogs out to roam and know they won’t wander off. House itself was lovely and close enough drive to the beach/amenities. Cleanliness could of been slightly better, but wasn’t bad and wouldn’t put us off staying here again. Definitely recommend.
-
"Our second time at this gorgeous property enjoyed just as much as the first we didn't want to leave."
Hopefully we'll be back for a third sometime. The weather wasn't the best but the house is so comfy and warm staying indoors was okay by us (4 adults 2 dogs and an 11 week old baby girl) The garden is huge and enclosed even Lottie and Layla (the pooches) were sad to leave.
-
"Lovely cottage, went with my husband, parents & two dogs, the garden is secure, the dogs loved it outside."
Will be visiting again.
-
"Lovely surroundings and views, just a short walk to a local pub for good food."
-
"Mars Yr Haf is a lovely holiday cottage, in a great location."
It is great for people with dogs or children because it has two fully enclosed gardens. The house is warm cosy and great to live in. We had a great time and can’t wait to go back!
-
"The Location was very peaceful with beautiful views."
The cottage was lovely and you instantly felt at home. It was well equipped and beds were very comfortable. Quinn our Lakeland terrier loved it.. he’s hard to please so we were impressed!
-
"Absolutely loved Maes Yr Haf."
..booked for next year mid-holiday !
-
"What a gem Maes Yr Haf is!"
Peace and tranquilty! The cottage is beautifully presented and well equipped. It is approached via an unadopted road which didn't bother us at all, adding to the charm and secluded nature of the property. The garden and house are very dog friendly and our dogs really enjoyed running around in the garden, which is more like a small field! The beds are very comfy which is something we don't often find in holiday cottages. The village, more of a hamlet, is very quiet and about 4 miles from Prestatyn. Prestatyn was a pleasant surprise too. Everything you need in terms of shopping. Lovely little independent stores as well as the usual well known names. There is a cinema too. We're vegan and discovered the Torello Lounge on the High Street with a great vegan selection as well as being dog friendly. Unfortunately, the local pub The Eagle and Child doesn't allow dogs in the building, only outside and had a dirth of vegan options. We thoroughly enjoyed our week and have booked again for next year. We do a lot of doggy friendly cottage holidays and this is certainly one of the best we've experienced.
-
"Absolute peace and quiet."
The garden was huge. Murphy loved it. Though the local pub, listed as dog friendly. Do not allow dogs inside.
-
"The kitchen is sadly lacking in basic kitchen utensils"
-
"We had a lovely stay at maes yr haf, the house is lovely and the views are breath taking."
The only set backs are the road to the house is so bumpy and over grown it has scratched my car, you can't just nip to the shops, the plug in air fresheners ect in the house was very bad for my asthma and the sofa and rug stink and are really grubby. But we had a lovely relaxing time and are sad to be home.
-
"Maes Yr Haf is an excellent holiday home for both children and dogs with a completely safe, fully fenced garden where they can all play which makes for a relaxing time for the adults!"
The downstairs of the house is also dog friendly with hard floors throughout. The location of the house is very quiet with no near neighbours and with lovely countryside views yet only a short walk to the village where there is a good pub and lots of footpaths for dog walking. Prestatyn is only a short drive away where we made use of the cinema and swimming pool etc. on rainy days. There is a large retail park with lots of shops including a Tesco supermarket who will deliver to the house. There is a Spar Shop in Dyserth where there is also a waterfall which is worth a visit. A very minor negative point would be the lack of kitchen utensils. A spatula, wooden spoon, serving spoons etc. would have been useful. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend if you have dogs and/or children and we would definitely return to this property.
-
"The property is amazing!"
Sitting down a small country road on it's own, very private. Everything you could possibly need has been catered for...even down to towels. The garden, both front and back, are secure and able to leave your dog(s) to play without worry of them escaping into the neighbouring cow field! Tesco deliver to the property (if needed) so I'm sure the other supermarkets would do too. Owners are very responsive to questions and very helpful. Only down side was having to put the key back and come home!
-
"This property was so good."
Our weather wasn't very nice, but the house was so comfortable it made it bearable. The garden was excellent for our 2 dogs. The best we've been in for size and being dog friendly, e.g. totally secure.
-
"This cottage was lovely."
Our children loved playing out in the garden, and it was great because we could close the gates and it was safe and secure. It was really comfortable and cosy and we hope to come back next year.
-
"Lovely cottage and beautiful location, helped by the glorious weather not usually associated with Wales!"
Comfortable beds, modern decor. A few extra utensils in the kitchen would be the only suggestion (e.g. no serving spoons)
-
"We felt at home as soon as we walked through the door the farmhouse is absolutely gorgeous, everything you needed was provided."
We really enjoyed our stay here and will definitely recommend it to family and friends.
-
"Fantastic cottage, location was perfect for us."
Cottage garden was perfect for our 3 dogs as it's fully enclosed. Would return for sure.
-
"We stayed at the cottage for two nights whilst attending a rock festival at the nearby Haven Holiday Park."
Most of the attendees would have stayed on site - but seeing the state of their caravans during the heavy rain and gale-force winds, I'm so glad we were staying at this cottage!! It was warm, cozy and nicely finished. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was clean and the lounge was spacious and pleasant. Didn't meet the owners, but everything worked well. One small comment, we were supplied with milk, a handful of teabags and coffee sachets - but no sugar. I suspect it was just an over-sight, but it's not the sort of place where you can pop to the shops for a pack of sugar!! But that is a very small blip of what was overall a very pleasant and positive stay. Would definitely recommend it.
-
"We loved our stay at Mars Yr Haf."
We felt at home from the moment we walked in the door. The house has a lovely welcoming feel and has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. It was lovely and warm even in cold and stormy weather and the enclosed garden is perfect for those who have children or dogs. Our only complaint is that the time went by too fast! Thank you for a great holiday.
-
"We had a lovely stay which was comfortable, homely and provided everything we needed to enjoy our stay."
We also appreciated the extras that enabled us to have a hot drink etc. On arrival after a long drive before going shopping. We would recommend your standards of cottage to our friends and family. Thanks, Debby Osborne
-
"Awesome place and great for the dog as garden is completely enclosed."
we took our new pup here and she had the run of a large garden and we knew she could not escape. Tesco delivered so no need to rush out. house is great and really nice and warm when returning after days out. close to Prestatyn but far enough away to be remote. steep road to get down that wide was uneasy about but alternative routes. we had a mini and the route to the cottage was fine so whilst it’s a farm track any car is fine.
-
"The house was in a great location and suited our family group well."
Countryside views were amazing and the house was warm and comfortable.
-
"The cottage was very clean, comfortable & cosy We have two little dogs and the garden was amazing for them and secure Would strongly recommend this cottage to all."
Lovely walks on your doorstep and lovely country pub just a walk up the road.
-
"Beautiful location."
House was exceptional, warm and welcoming. Fantastic shower and the bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable. Everywhere really clean. Would definately stay here again. Cannot believe this beautiful house was such a reasonable price for our weeks stay
-
"A lovely cottage with a nice big safe enclosed garden, lovely location with towns/shops near by, would definitely book this again."
-
"Lovely location for the wonderful North Wales coastline."
Spotlessly clean & great enclosed safe garden for our dog to enjoy. Lots to explore and visit locally very friendly people. Will definitely book again
