Having read some of the previous reviews, I have to admit that I was a little nervous. I needn't have worried. The place was absolutely spotless and well equipped with everything you could possibly need. A lovely cosy cottage in a fabulous location. Had a lovely Sunday lunch and evening meal in the Cardiff Arms and the breakfast in Adele's is fab too. Would not hesitate to book this cottage again.

We arrived on Saturday 12th September for a Saturday to Saturday staycation. The place was lovely and clean and looks like it has been recently refurbished. The photos do not do it justice. The beds are really comfortable and we didn't hear any noise at all. Thr cottage is close to places like carmarthen and Tenby both within an hours drive. The Cardiff Arms isn't too far away and does a beautiful Sunday lunch and you wouldn't go too far wrong having cheesecake for dessert. We were lucky with the weather too but wouldn't have minded staying at the cottage watching the dvds that were there or playing cards on the table in the kitchen. There is a fireplace there but with the heating we didn't need to use it. Will hopefully be back again

Few things hadn’t been cleaned.. Clothes airer was broken and could have been bigger as no clothes line. Fridge freezer too small for Size of house Also bottom drawer was broken. Still a lovely house with everything you needed.

Lovely house, very comfortable had everything from home to home, the only thing we did not get was a welcome pack i.. E bread , milk etc which is usually standard, all so in right up said there was 3 pubs in village for food, 2 pubs had shut in January and 3rd pub only served drink there is a pub about 2 miles away the Peny ryn arms that was lovely , fantastic walks from the door. The boiler stopped working but was fixed within 24 hours.

Lovely clean and comfortable cottage close to lots of attractions.. Lots of space to spread out for the four of us, two adults a teenager and an 11 year old. Games to play, books to read and jigsaws to complete. Not that we had time to sit around because we arrived during Cilgerran carnival week and there was so much to see and do. The Castle was interesting and had several events to go to over the August bank holiday weekend and during the following week. The Villagers were very friendly and welcoming, especially at the corner shop at the end of the road. The fish and chip takeaway van arrives on a Thursday near the Petrol station and provided a tasty fish and chip supper. A very relaxing holiday where we didn’t need to use the car everyday.

This is a lovely cottage in a beautiful part of the world.. It is well appointed and as described in both text and photos, except the parking, lane and outdoor seating were all much better than we were expecting.

Great quiet location, close to local town but in quiet village with excellent shop within 10 mins walk.. TV with freeview and DVD player with small collection of dvds to watch - WiFi was no problem to set up. Easy self check in procedure and house information sheet was helpful - very spacious accommodation with large lounge / diner and huge kitchen. Parking was a real bonus and made such a difference - will definitely consider this place again if we return to this area.

On arrival the house had an awful smell all over ground floor, we had to go and buy and buy a spray to spray carpet, after opening all doors and windows didn’t help.. The cooking utensils and saucepans, also cutlery needed washing before using. The garden was on the front of the house, there were nine rubbish bags on the pavement leaning against the wall, flies all around so we were unable to sit outside. We arrived on the Saturday, Tuesday when we drove back to the house we said Oh good the bags had gone, only to find they had been thrown into the garden for some reason unknown to us, we got in touch with owner who sent someone to move them, they were moved back up against the wall again. There was black dust all around in our on suite I could go on. When you pay to rent a property you expect things to be clean this was not. The owner should be checking also you as a company advertising cottages and houses should make sure they are fit for purpose.

Had a lovely time at Teifi House, lots of space for the family and two dogs..

The cottage has private, gated, off-road parking for one car, access is via a relatively steep single track road which also serves the local river-side car park so any visitor needs to be comfortable with or at least aware of the possible challenges this may bring, particularly in the high season..

Was surprised by previous reviews, as I have just returned from an excellent week's stay with the family! In a really lovely peaceful location on the Teifi River and the house has everything you could need and much more! Lovely big kitchen diner with everything you need, 3 fab bedrooms with very comfortable beds and a great lounge with a log burning fire. Also the location is great for exploring the Teifi River and Cilgerran Castle as both in walking distance. Plus if want to go further afield to places such as New Quay and Tenby, which are both worth a visit. Poppit Sands a lovely local beach which is a most also! Will be booking again soon as we all had a great time!

We booked this holiday for our Christmas break towards the end of the summer when all the reviews were positive. Shortly before our holiday we checked on the reviews again to find some very negative feed back. So we contacted Sykes cottages to express our concerns. They then contacted the owner who said all the cleanliness issues had been resolved with a change of cleaning company. On arrival we found this not to be true. We unloaded the car after our 5 hour trip put the kettle on and the oven to warm some food we'd bought with us. The kitchen filled with smoke and the smell of burning fat. On wiping the work tops down found they were very dirty and sticky with grease. On further inspection the microwave was dirty the inside rubbish bin covered in grime and dirt on the outside. The whole kitchen felt grubby and we didn't take our shoes off as the floor was covered in dog hairs and bits (soil and dirt) the lounge carpets needed a damm good vacuum, the dining room chairs were covered in crumbs. The stairs carpet and surrounding paintwork was covered in dust dog hairs. The upstairs carpets were the same, the window sills up stairs had months of mould on them. All the windows in the house needed a damm good clean, the down stairs patio doors were covered in muddy dog foot prints and doggy nose art. On a good note the beds were clean and comfy. The sinks, toilet and shower upstairs were clean. The downstairs toilet was dirty. The dishwasher did not work the lights were on but nothing happened. The owner had told us there maybe a problem with it but was trying to get someone to come and look at it. We contacted the owner that evening with our concerns, he was very apologetic. He arranged for the cleaner to come that evening to discuss our concerns, on arrival he was very rude and had an aggressive manner and said the house was clean and we had made the mess on the carpets as he himself had vacuumed earlier with a dyson (must have forgot to plug it in ) we then asked him to leave and contacted the owner again and told him what had happened the cleaner then burst back into the kitchen and said he would hoover what we thought was not vacuumed . At this point I told the owner we were uncomfortable with what had happened . So he told us to tell the cleaner to leave . He later arranged for a professional oven cleaner to come Christmas eve . So the next day we all set too and washed the pots we needed to use on our stay and vacuumed all through the house and wiped all the surfaces . (Happy holidays ) After all the drama on the first evening we settled down to watch the tv only to find out that it didn't work properly. So contacted the owner AGAIN, by this time it was 9pm, who then after various text messages back and forth and after rebooting and re tuning the Freesat box managed to get the tv working. On returning from our holiday we rang Sykes Cottages and lodged our compliant who have since contacted the owner and is now disputing the house is dirty. Surprise surprise could this be because we have asked for some money back . Sykes Cottages have asked for evidence .We have some photos although grease grim and unvacummed carpet do not photo very well especially the lounge carpet which is cream with brown flex in it and photographs of the windows just focuses on the things outside. The whole experience has spoilt our Christmas and that of our friend s . We will not be using Sykes cottages again or returning to teifi house which is a shame as the setting for this little cottage is in a perfect place . It would be heaven on earth during the summer months.

Sorry Sykes. We are here now, due to check out in the morning. I don't think anyone does any cleaning. Whoever was in the house before us, left the dishwasher full of dirty dishes, dirty microwave, the outside bins had soggy rubbish in them not bagged, dog poo in the garden, downstairs toilet not clean, the trap on the kitchen sink wasn't screwed on and the water just poured through to the cupboard, must have happened before judging by the state of the cupboard and the empty sink unblocked cleaner bottles. Not hoovered with dog treats and chews around the lounge. No Visitors Book to comment in. The Idiots Guide to the House is well worn and parts unreadable. In their favour it's a toasty house with instant hot water and heat at the touch of the Boost button, couldn't fathom out the timer. Beds were clean and comfy. Towels were clean although only small bath towels. The sinks and bathrooms upstairs were clean. So half a job has been done. So I didn't mind if my dog ran all over the house and left dog hairs, I just hope the hoover works in the morning so I can clean it before the next person.

House is in an ideal location for walks along the river.. There's no garden as such but you have the river on your doorstep so not an issue. We are used to log burners so didn't find it a problem getting it going but be warned - when you first light it you get a lot of smoke in the room, it takes awhile for the warm air to rise up the chimney. So I would recommend firelighter and kindling to start rather than burning paper (which was what was left for us to use). The Kitchen is lovely and big with lots of utencils etc, a couple of niggles ie the dishwasher top shelf you have to be careful with as it will come right out of it's runners and the oven is difficult to light... there's a real knack to it. The previous review was a real worry as it was very scathing about the cleanliness - I spoke to the owner beforehand about this, he was very honest and said he had been let down by previous cleaning company which had all been resolved. The house was certainly a lot cleaner than the previous review (I am really fussy)... perfectly adequate.

I don't think we were meant to go away for my birthday this year.. I booked our trip for Station Hall at Cilgerran and then just as I was about to pay the balance I was told my holiday was cancelled as it had been double booked. I then didn't have much choice trying to find a suitable cottage that accommodated two dogs for the same dates due to our time off work being booked. I opted for Teifi House as it seemed suitable and was in the location we wanted as we were going to meet up with family nearby for some birthday celebrations. The owner rang me the day before about key location and if there were any problems then to let him know. We arrived just before 3pm on 10th November. Unlocked the doors and then just emptied the contents of our cars into the kitchen and then headed off to the nearby Cliff Hotel at Gwbert for afternoon teas with family who were waiting for us. At the end of the evening we headed back to Teifi House for our holiday. The house is vast and a great size as only three of us were staying. A great location near the local river for walks etc and the village at the top of the hill. We then started to unpack and familiarise ourselves with the house. The first point of call was the downstairs toilet next to the utility room which had not been cleaned and was the standard of a well used public toilet. We packed our shopping away in the cupboards and there were ample pots and pans and glasses etc but it was debatable whether they were clean. The dishwasher still contained dirty crockery from the previous holiday makers. The microwave was dirty with food spills. We struggled to light the oven and couldn't find any manuals that went with the appliances. We were in the process of washing up at the sink (because the dishwasher was full and by now we'd put it on) when our feet got wet. On checking inside the cupboard the trap was not fitted under the sink and water was spilling all over the cupboard. Judging by the amount of empty Kitchen Unblocker bottles, it suggested there had been a problem here. We managed to attach the relevant pipe work. On going through to the lounge, the carpet didn't appear as if it had been hoovered and to add to that there were dog biscuits and chews on the floor! The bathroom sinks appeared to have been cleaned and there were clean towels and bedding on the bed. We couldn't find a Visitors Book which normally offers local recommendations. The Idiots Guide to the House is a few sheets of A4 paper which has been there so long the print is barely readable. One page of it had even been torn off. There's a hand written note about the bins which looks as if had been prepared by a guest. There were two dustbins out on the roadside, one contained paper cake wrappers and an assortment of tins and bags. Nothing in the relevant recycling bags of which there was an ample supply of bags under the sink, albeit wet. There is no phone signal to contact the owner from the house and to be honest it was late in the day and after the long journey we just went to bed and made the most of it. We covered the settees with blankets which I always do and allowed my dogs the run of the house as I really didn't think they could make the house any more dirtier than it was. When we left the house we left it cleaner than when we arrived. I always strip the beds when we leave holiday homes to allow the owner to know which beds we had used. I wish I hadn't . There were no pillow case protectors on the bed, the pillows were soiled. I removed the bottom sheet to find a mattress protector which performed its duties as it too was very soiled with what can only be described a Love Juices!! Need I say more. I was glad to leave that house. I assume the owner had no involvement with caring for the property other than the cash going in the bank. I've since seen numerous complaints about the standard of this house and it seems that nothing has been done to rectify the problem. I would say that the standard of cleanliness depends on who was in the house prior to new guests arriving and how much cleaning they did on leaving or during their stay. There were no cloths to use to clean around sinks etc and I'm certainly not buying them when I'm on holiday. I did not make contact with the owner whilst on my holiday as I wanted a stress free holiday and not confrontation. We stayed out most of the time. Also on another matter, please stop sending me emails every time I look at a holiday home. I have been using holiday homes since 1992 and this one is certainly in the top five of being the worst. I've already got another five holiday cottages booked for the next year so please don't send me any further details as I need to get over this one.

Upon arriving at the cottage I thought great, but was surprised to see lots of wine bottles left outside, and rubbish sacks. Once in the house, the layout is superb, but the standard of cleanliness was very poor, carpets needed vacuuming before we could move our stuff, window sills upstairs had months of mould on them. In the kitchen, doors were hanging by 1 hinge only, dishwasher didn't work, oven was difficult to ignite but once lit had 1 temperature only...lets burn the food. We had to clean the kitchen table as there was cooked rice on it! Garden was unkempt, overgrown and decking covered with dog hair. Cleaner should be sacked. Great potential very poorly run, will not return!!! We have photos to prove!

Teifi House we stayed in was perfect.. Everything required was in there. The position of the Cottage was close to the river and extremely quiet. Just a short walk from the Village and the river. Recommended for families couples or even singles wishing for a comfortable and quiet holiday. We visited the Castle and were surprised how good it was. Tenby was a great day out,60 min drive but well worth it. The Gold mine visit at Dolgellau was exceptional. Highly recommend this Cottage. Couldn't find anything to fault it.We are hoping to return again with the whole of the family next time.

Nice big house with plenty of space.. Some things could do with updating but overall was good. Wonderful big gas cooker but the numbers have worn off so impossible to know what temperature you are setting the oven at. Also a pet hate of mine was nothing to put things on in the shower. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash all had to be balanced around the shower tray. No instructions either on what rubbish goes in what bag or when the bin men come. The previous occupants obviously had the same problem as the bin men wouldn't take their recycling away. I presume they'd put the wrong things in the bags as they didn't know. This, however, meant their rubbish sat at the front gate for the whole week. Would be easy to remedy this as other cottages give you a list of what can be recycled. Only minor problems but I feel if they were remedied they would make a big difference. That said, the kitchen was well stocked, lovely huge master bedroom, enormous dining table and a good location for visiting the area. The Welsh Wildlife Centre in Cilgerran is a must.

We had a wonderful week at the cottage and would highly recommend it.. The beaches were not far by car and were amazing. The cottage itself is lovely. Just a couple of points we felt we wanted to mention, there was no toilet paper when we arrived, luckily we had brought our own but it would have been nice if it was included and maybe a small welcome pack to include items such as milk and bread. Secondly it would have been nice if there were a few comfy garden chairs as apart from the stone table and benches and a few collapsible wooden chairs there was nothing comfy to sit on in the garden which is a great shame as the location is perfect.

June 2018
The location of the property is great, both in the village and near Cardigan, and the secure parking for multiple cars a bonus.. The listing doesn't get across the amazing views and proximity to the river Teifi, which is practically on your doorstep. As far as the house goes, it is comfortable and clean. There were some basic amenities missing which I have come to expect from every holiday cottages have stayed in; no milk for tea on arrival, no kitchen roll or dishwasher tablets, and no hand towels in the bathrooms. The towels provided were also comically small and of very little practical use. Either these minor issues need to be rectified, or people need to be made aware beforehand that such items will not be provided.

This was a fantastic house, spacious yet cosy with everything you could need.. The location was brilliant and a car is not always needed as there are plenty of walks from the house and places to visit. We ran out of time with the amount of things to do and places to visit in very close proximity to the house. Would definitely recommend this house and would definitely go back to stay again.

November 2016
We booked this cottage as it is located very near to our son and his family in St.. dogmeals we had planed an early Christmas Weekend with our family for the first few days of our stay.On arrival the house was warm and clean , all the rooms were of a good size. We did have a problem on the first evening with the oven on the large gas cooker which failed to heat up correctly. This was a major problem for us as we had all brought a lot of meat and vegitables for the special meal on the next day( saturday). We telephoned the contact person who was incredably helpful, he firstly made suggestions to try and clear the problem, then after this failed to solve the problem he offered to pay for a takeaway meal for the whole family - we declined this offer as we had plenty of pre-cooked food to feed everyone. The contact person said that he would arrange for a gas engineer to visit the cottage the next morning and even informed us a little later about the approximate time that the engineer would arrive. By Midday on the Saturday , (whilst we enjoyed the local nature walks ) the engineer had corrected the problem and we could cook a large family early Christmas meal. The manager/ owner of this cottage was incredably helpful and very pleasant as well as being as good as his word. Just one point to mention ( and agrees totally with the last review of the cottage) the kitchen is poorly equiped for home cooking with poor quality cutlery and cupboard doors peeling and hanging off. We had read the latest reviews for the cottage and so took pans and knives ect . which was a very good idea !. With just a little expenditure in the kitchen this cottage could be a great choice all round. The location of the cottage is wonderful for pet owners and nature walkers . I would very much like to stay at this cottage again especially as i really don't think the contact person could have done any more to make our stay perfect !.
