The rooftop terrace at this San Diego home is the real draw. Pacific views stretch beyond the Mission Beach rooftops, and direct access from the main bedroom makes it perfect for early-morning coffee before anyone else stirs. The house itself is bright and sociable, with a kitchen island built for holiday cooking, a bunk bed for little ones, and complimentary beach gear waiting by the door. Mission Bay and the boardwalk are steps away, Belmont Park's Giant Dipper is half a mile down the coast, and the wider San Diego area is easily within reach.

Home truths:
* We think this home is best suited to a family, though it can sleep a maximum of seven adults.
* At full capacity, one guest will sleep on a double sofa bed in the living area.
* The third bedroom has a bunk bed with a double bed on the bottom and a single on top. This room sleeps either two adults or three children.
* The main bedroom on the third floor is loft-style with no door, so it's more open than a conventional room.
* Like many homes along the coast, there's no air conditioning here – but you'll have portable fans and ceiling fans to keep things cool.
* You'll have a tandem carport here for two vehicles. There's limited street parking nearby, and public island car parks are within a few blocks if you need extra space.
