The resort-style pool is the heart of this house in Joshua Tree – dip in as the desert sky shifts to deep orange behind you, then dry off and head up to the wrap-around balcony for a barbecue with mountain views stretching in every direction. Inside, concrete and glass architecture frames the boulder-studded desert landscape from almost every angle, while two separate living spaces and a games room give groups plenty of room to spread out. After dark, the fire pit and a telescope make the most of stargazing.

* You'll need a car to get around – the nearest hiking trails are a five-minute drive, downtown Joshua Tree is seven minutes away, and the closest town for broader shopping is a little further afield. There's parking for up to three cars in the garage or driveway, with no on-street parking available.
* Pool heating is available here, but it comes at an additional cost of $250 per day with a minimum of two days. If you're planning to swim in the evenings or during cooler months, it's worth budgeting for this in advance.
* If you're planning a private event or any commercial photography or video shoot here, you'll need written approval from the County of San Bernardino before booking, and additional fees apply. Drones are not permitted due to county restrictions.
* Well-behaved pets are welcome to accompany you during your stay.
