An incredibly stylish apartment in Madrid's upmarket Salamanca district, though you wouldn't know it judging by the decor alone. Step inside this artfully designed abode, and you'll be immediately transported to a chic Kyoto address. With true Japanese attention to detail – it's the small touches that elevate this flat above the rest. In the sleek kitchen, you'll find everything you need to whip up small plate tapas or bowls of ramen. Continue to the calming en-suite bedroom with a custom-built desk that comes in handy when the office comes calling. The second bedroom comes with a hand-made headboard resembling a Shinto shrine and wall-length shelves, while the third has geometric wood detailing on the walls. Finally, in the open-plan living/dining area, you'll really have to search for the tv, hidden away in the chimney breast. Step out into the streets of Salamanca, and you'll find grand boulevards, stunning architecture, and some of the city's best restaurants and boutiques. Walk a kilometre to the Unesco-recognised Retiro Park before heading to the Prado Museum, a five-minute walk west. For the Royal Palace and Plaza Mayor, jump on the metro at nearby Velazquez station and you can be gazing at the architecture in a little over twenty minutes.

Local guide
About Salamanca
Salamanca is Madrid’s most glamorous and prestigious quarter. Usually associated with aristocratic façades, wide avenues, and luxurious living (atypical for Madrid’s cosy centre), the neighbourhood attracts domestic and international elite. It’s also home to many embassies and private schools, as well as niche museums and designer boutiques along its ‘Golden Mile’. The demanding clientele has made the food scene equally exclusive, but while you’re likely to find quite a few Michelin-star restaurants in the area, there are lots of relaxed tapas bars for those less willing to splash the cash.
