Experience a more authentic side of Madrid with a stay at this home in Lavapiés – one of the city’s oldest barrios. Its colourful streets are home to the El Rastro market and the Reina Sofía Museum, while the nearby metro (just three minutes on foot) makes it easy to explore further afield. Set across two floors, with two bedrooms plus a studio-style sleeping space, the layout is a tad quirky. The kitchen and breakfast bar area are on the compact side, too. But for a short city stay – especially if you plan to eat out – you’re onto a winner here.
