Be transported to the tranquil shores of a sandy Indonesian beach when you stay at this home. It’s not what we were expecting when we visited this Madrid home – but we love it. Lounge on the hanging chair in the living space surrounded by lush ferns, banana plants and rattan lampshades, or read a book on the window seat in the bedroom with its gorgeous canopied bed and macrame artwork adorning the walls. Open the doors to one of two balconies here if you fancy a bit of fresh air and want to reaffirm that you’re in the Spanish capital. This home is located between Recoletos in the Barrio de Salamanca and Retiro. Head to beautiful Paseo de Recoletos (six minutes on foot), where you’ll find splendid trees and sculptures, as well as historic cafes, the National Archaeological Museum, and cultural institutions such as Casa de América. If you want to browse the designer boutiques of Ortega y Gasset Street, it’s a twenty-minute walk, or if you prefer to escape the crowds, El Retiro Park is a four-minute stroll.
