An old forester’s cottage set on an ancient family estate beside the dark Ochil hills, this fairytale retreat is surrounded by over a thousand acres of woods, butterfly-filled meadows, mossy wetlands, and rugged heath teeming with wildlife. Start your day alongside the dawn chorus before tucking into a breakfast of jams and rustic sourdough bread on the private patio. You might spot a red squirrel or pine marten rustling through the trees, or, if you arise at dawn, roe deer grazing in the fields nearby. Ramble through the ferns and mossy floors of the woodlands, and later climb the hill to the Witch’s Stone – one of many curious secrets furrowed away in the estate. When night comes, take an idyllic moonlit stroll through the woods, roaming through gigantic ancient trees with a bat detector in tow. Later, gather around the outdoor fire pit and roast jumbo marshmallows beneath the stars. When you’re ready to retire for the night, languish on a soft sheepskin throw. by the ceramic wood-burning stove. Despite its remote location, the cottage is well-placed for adventures in the surrounding area. The scenic village of Dollar is less than a ten-minute drive away and includes some delightful independent restaurants and shops, meanwhile, the cultural sights of Edinburgh and Glasglow are within a one-hour drive.
