Spent a long weekend here, on turning into the cottages it felt positively magical. Plenty of parking space, lovely clean, welcoming house, fenced in garden so safe for dogs and children. Lovely welcoming pack, appreciated after a 4 hour drive. The owners are friendly and lovely people. You have to take glass rubbish away with you as no bin facilities for glass but this is not their fault. The allanton Inn is not dog friendly

Spotless cottage. Everything you need plus extra. Spacious. Dog friendly. Perfect base for exploring Northumberland and Scottish Borders. WiFi/ internet connection hit and miss. But was so nice to take a break from technology. Although my 12 year old didn't think so lol. She had to talk to us. Great family holiday. Will definitely recommend.

This was a lovely cottage that allowed dogs.. Was very clean on arrival, excellent facilities and very comfortable. The owner was very helpful when I contacted her to say we were lost and went out of her way to help. The cottage was great with the patio at the front, but also lovely grounds to walk in. Would highly recommend it and will hopefully be back again.

Lovely well equipped cottage in a lovely quiet area.. Owners were really helpful and friendly. One very slight recommendation would be to invest in new mattresses in main bedroom as they were not very comfortable. Other than that highly recommended xx

It was everything that we hoped for at this time of the year.. With having two small dogs with no fireworks going off like they have been doing at home since September we only heard one all week the owners were very friendly and approachable for anything

Whilst owner was lovely as was surroundings, cottage was not as clean as it should have been.. Generally in need of considerable refurbishment with lots of things either broken, shabby or simply not there. This applies to all rooms including outside patio which needed new furniture, weeding and some light- pitch black at night. There was a torch which needed new batteries and that summed the place up- new batteries! The last review said the place needs a deep clean and some TLC which we agree with. I could not recommend this cottage which is a huge pity. We have booked to go away with Sykes at Christmas and may cancel this now. So disappointing.

Lovely cottage in the peaceful setting we wanted, Warm welcome going the extra mile providing tea bags, sugar milk and biscuits.. Only downside we found was the bed, although a good size, where the beds were put together it did put an uncomfortable ridge in the middle. However, we would return as it was so lovely!

September 2019
We enjoyed our holiday and the cottage is in a lovely quiet location amongst woodland, it is spacious and reasonably well equipped although missing some basic items such as cleaning cloths and oven gloves.. As others have reported the cottage needs a refurb and a good cleaning also some maintenance is needed. Someone reported in another review from July that the vacuum cleaner needed repair, it still does in September also things like batteries and light bulbs need replacing. Could be perfect with a little more effort.
Mr Roberts, September 2019
August 2019
We found the cottage clean and well equipped.. It is rural but well located for day trips to the coast, Scottish Border towns and the Northumberland coast. I would definitely recommend it as a place to spend a relaxing week in.

Cottage really tired needs intense clean and a paint, linen on beds had hairs and some marks! owners son greeted us on arrival to let us know that the freezer had a problem and the Hoover also was not working due to fan belt !! Apart from that this cottage is in a great location and could be so much better.
Mrs Notman, July 2019

A good basic base to explore other coastal towns.. Not that child friendly especially if into gadgets as WiFi quite poor and a very small tv in the sitting room but overall the cottage is set in lovely surroundings and pet friendly.

A very pleasant and comfortable cottage in a beautiful area.. It has an enclosed front area safe for children and pets. Very obliging caretakers who are close by should you need them. We had no problems with the phone signal but the wifi was rather slow but usable. There are plenty of supermarkets in the area if you need a large choice of items, we found Berwick-upon-Tweed was the nearest with a choice of different supermarkets, there are of course shops in Chirnside too. Nice and quiet but perfectly situated for touring around the area.

Booked to stay for one week. Found mouse droppings under the kitchen sink on our arrival so placed a trap as my wife does not like mice. Caught our first mouse Saturday evening ! Sunday evening a second mouse ran across the living room floor, so we left. Returned on Monday to collect our possessions and discuss the situation with the owner. The owner told me that she thought it was reasonable to have mice in a country cottage and that I should have told her at the time of booking that my wife was afraid of mice and she would have declined my booking. Her husband told me they use electronic devices to repel mice in their own home but not the holiday cottages. Holiday ruined!

It was a very nice week, we loved the area and will certainly go back again.. Easy to get about to East Lothian or back to Northumberland coast. Cottage very comfortable particularly the upstairs. For dog walking couldn't be better. Good eating roundabout, our favourite was Allanton Inn.

September 2016
The cottage was very central for a great deal of attractions.. It had everything we needed for our holiday. The beds were very comfortable. It was very warm and cosy. Even though it was semi-detached we did not hear anything from the people next door. It was so peaceful when we came back from our trips out. Just what we needed. I would highly recommend this cottage.

Exceptional Value for Money. Whilst not the swankiest of pads, the cottage is scrupiously clean and very well equipped, set in beautiful grounds with lots of wildlife. There is also space for two cars for each of the cottages, which is great if you are meeting up with friends or family. We got the warmest of welcomes from our host, Liz, who even left us a chocolate cake - despite this being only a three night booking. We had our jack russell dog with us, so it was also really handy to have a fenced-in patio area so I didn't have to worry about him reducing the abundance of wildlife. Liz sent us great directions and was on-hand to answer any questions we might have. Our first time to Coldingham Bay, which is only a short drive away - recommended by Liz; one very much appreciated as it was amazing with rockpools, a lovely sandy beach, free parking and fab walks. Would highly recommend a stay at this property.

Loved Gardner's Cottage. Went with husband and Luna the dog. Small enclosed patio with bbq was a great place to sit in the evenings. Little patch of woodland over fence for Luna to run. Nice and roomy cottage which is well equipped. Steps up to front door. There are now two bathrooms. Bit of a drive for shops (Tesco near Berwick). Nice pub with food in village. Owners friendly and helpful. It is on the site of their art studio, which had an open weekend while we were there, so there were people walking around, but only until 4pm. Had to stand in garden for phone reception. Beautiful garden, and situation. Well recommended and would go again.

What a lovely cottage (in the ad photos, its the one in shadow). Spacious and dog friendly. Well equipped kitchen. Comfortable living area (though we mainly sat on the patio). Surrounded by trees. Patio is enclosed by low fence. Over road from property is a footpath suitable for walking the dog in the mornings. Lots of space in the bedrooms and two bathrooms, one with shower one with bath. There is an ajoining cottage but you don't get any disturbance from it. There is also another property visible and the owner runs art courses, none of which is troublesome. Only downside - no shops for miles. But very nice pub - Allanton Arms(?) down the road. Owners very friendly. Mobile phone(text)/tablet reception outside - sometimes in the trees. Mobile phone calls on the road, outside the property. Steps leading upto property and narrow staircase - not suitable for wheelchairs or disabled. Great for visiting Lindisfarne, St. Abbs Head, Southern Upland Way.

Potentially this is a good cottage. It's in a tranquil location but handy for touring the local area. It is a warm little cottage when the heaters are on but the hot water system needs reworking because it is lacking. The kitchen is quite well equipped but there aren't many mugs but the cupboards are far too high off the floor. The bed was comfy despite being 2 joined together. Loved the ensuite. Would go there again.

Gardeners Cottage is surrounded by country lanes but civilisation if you want it is not far away. The cottage itself is in need of a makeover as its starting to look a bit tired around the edges and if this were done the cost would go up,as prices are reasonable now. The owners who lived in the ground s didnt bother you and just gave you the key on arrival .I feel a bit more effort could have been made with the presentation of the place as I said Id have a word with the cleaner who has nt cleaned in the corners for a few weeks! On the whole if you want somewhere to lay your head for the week near to Holy island its cheap and cheerfull.
