Property Description

The charming villages of Dunkeld and Birnam are located on either side of the Tay in Highland Perthshire, just off the A9 midway between Perth and Pitlochry. Historic Dunkeld is one of the best preserved heritage villages in Scotland, whilst Birnam built when the railway to the highlands arrived in 1860 is a postcard pretty Victorian village with stone turrets and spires jutting up against the misty highland hills. The 'commute' between villages is via the tranquil riverside path that runs under the canopy of the famous Birnam Oak, along the banks of the silvery Tay, then over the historic Telford Bridge. Catch a show or exhibition at the Birnam Arts Centre, browse the independent galleries and shops, enjoy a round of golf, or walk the hills for spectacular views, then relax over a meal at one of the many pubs and restaurants within 200m of your front door at Drummond House. Drummond House in the heart of Birnam, is a beautiful Victorian property built in the Scots Baronial style. Back when Birnam Dunkeld was a coveted holiday destination for Victorian tourists coming to the Scottish Highlands, this end of terrace villa was the manse of the well appointed church next door. Now an expansive private home, Drummond House has everything you need for a memorable getaway with family and friends. A ground floor library with electric fireplace is perfect for book lovers who like to get lost in their reading. There's a sound system to play some jazz or classic tunes whilst you drop into holiday relaxation mode. Upstairs, the sunny yellow drawing room features a gas fire adorned with William De Morgan tilework, and turret windows looking out over the Victorian streetscape to Birnam Hill. Each of the five bedrooms has been individually decorated and thoughtfully designed; all are equipped with en suite facilities. The first of five bedrooms can be found on the first floor with the remaining bedrooms all on the second, along with the children's library at the top landing that features a seating area, stocked with lovely books to read. The spectacular dining room is a wonderful gathering place for memorable meals with friends and family: a perfect place for long evenings and storytelling enjoyed with wine and whisky. A period butler's pantry across the hall is stocked with several dinnerware options, and also features a small drinks bar area. Down the old kitchen corridor, a modern and contemporary kitchen with a large Rangemaster is a great place to get everyone involved in meal preparation. The kitchen is exceptionally well appointed with several utensils, complimentary spices and well stocked with cereals and grains working on a use and replace system. At the back of the house, overlooking the courtyard garden, the boot room provides a casual lounge area with Smart TV to enjoy a movie or just hang out and play one of the many board games on offer. Stairs from the lounge lead out into the back garden. The garden is enclosed at the rear and complete with garden furniture for relaxing or dining al fresco on the long summer evenings.
