Fabulous cottage in the most beautiful Scottish highlands! It is the best cottage I have ever stayed at! It has everything you need for a family holiday or a couples getaway! The scenery and wildlife is stunning, we saw roe deer in the evening, eagles during the day and otters whilst fishing. The facilities are first class, bedrooms all fitted out with lovely comfy mattresses and smart TVs. The bathroom is bigger than my kitchen at home, taking a bath was the most relaxing experience listening to the birds outside. The kitchen living area was perfect for cooking and we even had a bbq in the garden, hosting our friends! The host Mrs Morrison couldn’t be more attentive, we received warm fresh scones on arrival and a bottle of wine! We had a slight problem with our car and Mr Morrison even came over and fix our fault! Overall a fantastic week in the most magical part of Scotland. I will definitely be booking again for another holiday! 10/10 I also agreed with the following statements from the most recent reviewer. a) there is now high speed Wifi in the property, b) we saw no sign of activity at the woodchip plant (in any case it is quite some distance away), c) we didn't see any HGV traffic throughout the week, d) there is a new electricity sub-station but it is miles away.

The outside doesn’t look very exciting but once you go inside.. ....... cracking. Beautifully finished accommodation, great open plan sitting, dining, and kitchen. Very light and airy. The sleeping areas are quality and very comfortable. 3 Beautiful Bathrooms, 2 of which are en Suites. Well equipped kitchen with ample work surfaces. High end and modern decor. Location is on a quiet single track road and easy driving/ cycling distance to the beach/pub. Very helpful host with whom I chatted, but we had no need to contact her for anything else as everything was easy to use and we had no problems.

Very well equiped cottage far exceeding others that we have stayed in.. Excellent value for money with the hosts supplying more than adequate stocks of general consumables as well as a welcome pack. Lovely location, conveniently situated for exploring the North coast and the stunning scenery. We would strongly recommend this cottage.

A lovely very clean and comfortable cottage, on arrival everything was just lovely and homemade scones and cream and jam awaited us in the fridge.. This was are second visit and we will be back for a 3rd hopefully next year. The kitchen has everything you could need for self catering, which the time of year we go you need to look after yourselves not much open early March. The bed is lovely and comfortable, and the walk in shower for us is ideal. The only reason we have not already booked for next year, is this COVID-19 we had to cut this year holiday short because of it, so we waiting a while to see what happens before we book next year. If you like lovely walks, beautiful beeches and nature, this is a lovely cottage to come back to in the evening and relax.

Lovely cottage, but ruined by the development directly opposite - a huge, wood-burning woodchip production plant. Noise, smoke and totally unsightly. Sadly with the wind being mostly from the west, it means the cottage was often cloaked in smoke, which made sitting outside impossible. Also, the road is very close and the timber lorries and quarry trucks caused a lot of alarm as they passed by at speed.

This is a ideal cottage to use as a base for this area.. We all enjoyed the area and the cottage immensely, and would recommended it to anybody who wished to go north.

Great cottage.. Now with speedy WiFi. Clean, spacious, well-equipped, comfortable, in a lovely location to explore North coast. Close to beautiful beaches and good for fishing. We have holidayed here twice now and highly recommend it to others.

The cottage was absolutely wonderful.. It exceeded all expectations. I have rented cottages and houses all over Scotland and abroad for our family and I can honestly say that the Auld Kirk was by far the top in terms of cleanliness. I will use it again and certainly would recommend it to everyone. Can’t rate the facilities any higher.

The old kirk was brilliant and more than we had expected.. I have worked in holiday cottages for the last ten years and this was as good as I have ever stayed in. We loved the extras provided such as the odd blanket, the roasting tins, the wok, the slow cooker used twice and wine glasses that met our high expectations with red wine. I needed a bigger colinder/strainer but that's been difficult to find in Sutherland as a sieve seems to be OK but I needed a big one for rice, pasta and washing the spuds. No worries we were very happy with our stay at the Old Kirk and ideal for 3 manic fisherman.

Lovely little cottage although a bit hard to find.. Really lovely to stay in although the owner Mrs Morrison is quite abrupt, rules to house she leaves are "don't do this", "dont do that" no have a nice stay as everywhere else we have stayed. There is a slow cooker which we used the night before we left, to which we left in soak, all house was tidy and had an abrupt message after we left as to she does not do dishes! Apart from this had a lovely stay the views are really amazing with loads of deer rabbits and sheep on the way there

The owner was there to meet us on arrival with home made scones and jam and cream.. Very nice lady who was very helpful and even came over a few days later to see if we needed anything, which we did not. A lovely comfortable and very clean property we liked it so much we have booked again for next year. Lovely walk in shower and very comfortable bed and good quality furnishings. Even a crock pot was provided, which we have been self catering for over 25 years and stayed in many self catering properties and no one has provided one of these. Looking forward to staying here again next year.

We had a wonderful stay at the auld Kirk, beautiful scenery, lovely cottage inside and out. Couldn’t have asked for a more clean and welcoming place to stay! Mrs Morrison put some little books and a teddy for my youngest to read and play with also the frustration game which we had hours of fun playing with our eldest. Lovely weather too which helped!

This was a super house to stay in.. It had everything we needed and more( including a slow cooker which meant we went out for the day and had a tasty casserole ready when we got back). It was a spacious house , especially the bathrooms . The weather was pretty cold when we were there so it was nice to come back to a cosy house . The area is an interesting place with some dramatic coastal scenery near by. A lovely touch was the home baked scones with cream and jam . Much appreciated after a long drive . Enjoyed the wine too.

I loved the Auld Kirk it was awesome.. The location was spectacular nestled like a jewel between the heathery hills and the quicksilver river. Looking out at the deer was fantastic. The cottage was even more beautiful than I expected and had everything that anyone would wish for. We were delighted when we discovered that Jeanette had left us home baked scones, jam and cream and a bottle of wine. I did not want to leave!!

We stayed here for Christmas, the cottage is gorgeous and the area was stunning.. It was spotless and had everything we needed, we were greeted with a lovely bottle of wine and fresh scones and cream! The cottage was decorated for Christmas which made it all that more special. This is the perfect place if you want to relax. We saw lots of wildlife and had lots of nice walks. We are going to book in again next year and would recommend it to anyone :)

Former church beautifully renovated to a very high standard. Location is 4 miles from the coast in a lovely rural spot. Our children loved the house as we did. We were welcomed with freshly baked scones, jam and cream with a lovely bottle of red wine. The house is well equipped so great for cooking an evening meal, we took our own however plenty of tea, coffee etc All rooms are comfortable and spacious with loads of storage, all have TVs with sky tv and DVD players. House was spotless, there were 2 ensuite shower rooms and a large bathroom with a walk in shower. I would think this house would be good if you had mobility issues as the main bedroom is downstairs as is the main bathroom. This is an ideal location if you want to visit the north coast of Scotland, the beaches are amazing, plenty of fishing and great for cycling and walking. We only met Ronnie who owned the house as his wife was unfortunately in hospital, he is a gem and made us feel so welcome to his lovely part of Scotland. We would strongly recommend this house and hope to return one day.

The Auld Kirk is located about 30 minutes from Thurso in far north Scotland. It is in rather an isolated spot (no wifi and only intermittent phone coverage at best) and although the view across the valley is quite nice, the closeness to an electricity sub station is a concern. The cottage itself has been nicely renovated and offers two decent sized bedrooms, both with lovely ensuites as well as a great family bathroom with a huge bath. The kitchen is well stocked (although the cutlery was a bit hard to find). The lounge is comfortable with a large TV, and there was a lovely welcome gift of a bottle of wine.

October 2016
The Highlands are no gourmet destination, in October you may even struggle to find a good cup of tea/coffee as you travel, and there are few eating places.. Our solution is to find quality self catering accommodation and to cook..... 'The Auld Kirk' is just the place to return to after a day out climbing mountains or walking the many beautiful beaches nearby. It is beautifully renovated, comfortable, warm and well equipped. The owners are friendly and helpful and live nearby. Happy to recommend to anyone wanting to visit this wonderful area.

Directions to the property inadequate.. An indication of the distance from the A9 would have been helpful - rather than just 'located on the right hand side of the road.' The most delightful 'cottage' - a truly stand alone and outstanding property - loved it!

The house is stunning inside, light, clean, spacious, luxurious. Outlook is also stunning towards the Highlands. We were so impressed with the position of the house and the interiors that would love to go back to it one day. The house is equipped so well, a pleasure to cook in the kitchen every night. It has 3 bathrooms and spacious bedrooms - simply luxurious like a hotel stay. We enjoyed it immensely and highly recommend. The owners are warm and friendly.

A really lovely cottage with beautiful views all around. The cottage was spacious, a recently restored old church which was done up to a very high standard with lovely decor and superb bathrooms. We would love to come back here and we would highly recommend it. I really enjoyed the views and after a busy day I could sit on the sofa and had wonderful vistas through the windows both to my left and right. Such a great place to stay.

Last week of July we stayed a week in the Auld Kirk. The house was spotless, the kitchen well appointed and the shower just great (altough we only used one out of three). Upon arrival there were scones waiting for us as well as a bottle of wine. The area the house is situated in is beautiful. There were flying a lot of birds although we did not see any merlins.
