August 2020
For the third year running, Sykes have provided wonderful, high quality holiday accommodation for my family and I.. We also felt completely safe with the current coronavirus situation. The accommodation was clean and hygienic and we were grateful for the additional information and advice provided, for example we brought our own pillows for the duration of the stay. My only disappointment was the lack of communication from Sykes when the original cottage that I had booked was unexpectedly cancelled with no notification from Sykes. I only discovered the cancellation when I went on the mobile phone app to check details of the accommodation.

Gorgeous log cabin, warm & cosy, beautifully clean & pet friendly, our 2 cats loved it. Jean was so welcoming & made a fuss of the cats. The only thing missing was snow! will definately be back to explore the surroundings more. Strathpeffer is a delight.

Being terrible reviewers we actually stayed in October 2017 but have not long created our account. Though it must be testament to a place to still want to review it over two years on! Spruce Lodge is an absolutely beautiful cabin situated just on the edge of Blackmuir Woods in the lovely Strathpfeffer. On a car free holiday we found it extremely easy to make it from Inverness Airport to the lodge door, with only a short walk along a woodland road the most taxing part of the journey. Our greeting was extremely friendly and we immediately felt at home. We were also greeted by a sweet loaf of bread, delicious peach melba jam and a Madeira cake. All of which we have tried and failed to relive at home. They could be found at the Deli in the Square at the time and frankly we should have stocked up! The lodge itself was beautiful. Extremely cosy in style and decor, with the most comfortable sofa. All the appliances worked perfectly, we weren't short or without anything we needed and Tesco delivers so had we not wanted to leave at all we would have been all set! We got a great night's sleep every night throughout our week stay, and to wake up to birds on the feeders and a red squirrel was such a treat. The lodge is perfectly situated for many walks..as ours was a walking holiday this was handy-dandy indeed. We haven't been able to make it back yet but we wouldn't consider staying elsewhere. We talk about our stay frequently with the fondest memories.

Lovely cabin in the woods.. Perfect for dog walking and with easy access to shops and local amenities. Lovely and warm with comfortable seating and beds. The fixtures and fittings were a little worn in places and there was mould on the walls in the main bedroom. This certain wasn't a deal breaker as it was easily rectified. I would definitely recommend Spruce Lodge.

The lodge was in the woods and we enjoyed the quietness of the place and the dark sky at night in which we Sat outside and watched the stars and meteor showers.. . The lodge is one of four in a small group so don't expect to have no neighbours. The owner was very friendly as were all the locals we met. We had a very old dog with us who as quoted in the rules Sat and slept on his bed. Unfortunately and this is not a reflection on the owner we had to buy some air freshener for one of the sofas as it smelt of dog and this would not be the case if dog owners followed the rules of the lodge. The lodges position is everything we wanted. Strathpeffer is a beautiful place as is the surrounding areas.many thanks for the treats you left. We definately would visit you again.

Spruce Lodge was comfortable and had just about everything we needed.. However it would be helpful to have simple instructions/manuals as to how certain things work. For example we could not get the grill to work. The wifi would not connect and we ended up using a less than perfect free wifi which was not protected.A tumble drier would be helpful as it wasn't easy drying washing in summer when it was raining outside and there was no heating on to dry it on radiators. Also the lights were very dim so perhaps brighter bulbs would help.

Just got back from a weeks stay at Spruce lodge and cannot sing it’s praises enough! The lodge is comfortable and like a home from home..even having yummy goodies left for our arrival. It is.situated in a beautiful part of the world! We enjoyed walks around the local area and when we mentioned to Jane that the only thing missing were some games to play in the evening, she appeared with some for us! Would definitely recommend staying here. Thank you for a fab week!

The cottage is a lot older than the photos used on Sykes website suggest.. The wifi would not allocate an IP Address on any device at any time during our stay, 4G was good however so we managed without wifi. The staff are friendly and helpful and the location is wonderful

We stayed here for 4 nights, 2 adults and our 2 dogs. I only wish we could have stayed longer! On our arrival there was a gift of bakery goods and even a pack of treats for the dogs. The lodge itself was spacious and clean and had everything you'd need although we took along a couple of large throws to stop our dogs getting the sofas covered in hairs. The location is gorgeous, surrounded by woodland walks that our dogs loved. The owner, Jane, was super friendly and helpful. She rang a couple of times to make sure we were ok, warm enough etc. And called in for a brief visit to introduce herself. We were visiting family nearby and will definitely stay here again.

Wow what a hidden gem this lodge is on our arrival we had a welcome pack of homemade cake biscuits and jam. The place was spotless with fresh towels and bedding what was appealing was its pet friendly for our 2 cavachons who just loved the place and walks. Its situated in woods so very peaceful and quiet at night time listening to all the wildlife and watching the deer feeding on the neighbours lawn. Only a 15 min drive to a supermarket for food and 15 min drive to Rogie falls this is a must visit absolutely stunning past of the country

We spent three nights at Spruce Lodge on a short break and we were really pleased. It was very clean, very well furnished and equipped and nothing broken or overly worn as we have found with other lodges - a real home from home. Everything is provided - bedding, towels, toilet rolls and Fairy liquid! Located in Blackmuir Woods, there's a real sense of peace and isolation but only minutes away from Strathpeffer. We had such a relaxing time, only our Scottish weather let us down with rain showers but we were happy to enjoy the lodge and stay in and relax. Easy to access WiFi, satellite tv and DVD player. Great point for visiting the area, Dingwall is 10 minutes away and Invernress not to far either. Also great for day trips to West Coast. The owner was lovely, really helpful and friendly and the locally made chocolate cake and toffee shortcake welcome goodies were delicious! We also liked that they allow bookings of less than a week, which many lodges don't.
