This was our second stay in the sister lodge Moorhen which is totally separate from Heron Lodge but of the same high standard. The two lodges are secluded so provide a haven of peace in a wooded area. It is ideally located for road links to explore the greater area and is a short drive from Inverness. The owners Helen and David provide lots of information and suggestion for places to visit and things to do and are available if required for anything. We were two 60 plus couples who holiday together frequently and we explored a little and returned to the pleasure of the wonderful hot tub each day. The best review I can give is that this is the first time we have returned to any where and can recommend it without hesitation.

What a fantastic place to stay. Great location to explore the region and beyond. We visited Culloden, Fort Agustus, Cromarty and Inverness to name just s few of the many attractions. One thing I noted was the lack of the dreaded midges, maybe the smoke from the log burning stoves dissuaded the little monsters! This was our second visit to these cabins and, though we have visited Scotland several times, this is the first time we have returned to the same cottage with one of our returning party saying it was "like coming home" and I think that says everything about these lodges. The owners are very friendly and willing to help or resolve any issues without being intrusive. Oh, and soaking in the hot tub after a days holidaying watching and listening to the wildlife is blissful! We will be back!

This lodge was better than advertised! Completely secluded and quiet, with every home comfort it gave us everything we wanted for a complete break. The hot tub was a special favourite and the setting in the woods was a magical feeling. The hosts also could not do enough to make us feel comfortable and were available should we need anything but never interrupted our holiday time. Could not top this!

Me, my husband and two dogs stayed in Heron Lodge.. We could not have been happier. The log cabin is beautiful and in lovely surroundings. Everything was provided for us and the owners went above and beyond to make our stay stress free including a lovely welcome pack and lots of information of the surrounding area. Plenty of lovely walks for the dogs and the locals are also very friendly. We also enjoyed the hot tub in the evening to relax after the walks. We have recommended the lodges to family and friends and hope to return soon! :-)

This is a lovely cabin with alot of care given to attendtion and detail so that everything is there for comfort and a restful holiday.. There was a really nice welcome pack that we greatly apprciated and enjoyed. We loved the hot tub too! The cabin is in a great position to walk in the area or explore places such as Loch Ness, Castle Urguhart, Culloden, Brodie House and Cromarty.

For dog owners.. The owners live next door and this is obviously a brand new lodge. Everything is sparkling and new and instructions clear as to the eco system but we are in a forest and we do have dogs with us so were very very respectful of the facilities and high end spec. But the lodge veranda could do with a gate. We placed a small bench across it as a visual barrier to our dogs so they did not explore the grounds. We walked them off site and kept them on the lead most of the time when “home” as improvements are still being made to the grounds and access with electronic gates installed while we were there. The owners have a blind dog who does wander around and so it is guests responsibility to look out for the home dog who wanders in front of cars. There are signs on site and this is pointed out by the owners. It might have been helpful to alert guests of this in advance as there is effectively no secure garden area for visiting dogs. It is extremely difficult to find properties of this quality and location that permits 2 dogs and we are responsible dog owners and do not let our dogs roam, bark or disturb others privacy but we did not realise there was no secure boundary to our lodge. Fortunately a forest walk is very close by for early morning exercise and toileting. It is also not clear what the house cleaning bond is about. Have we already paid this in the price paid to Sykes? It is not clear at all. If so how is this refunded? ****** Owner Response ***** We are so pleased that you found Heron Lodge to be of such a high standard "sparkling and new". Previous guests at Heron Lodge have all commented how spoilt they felt to enjoy such a peaceful, secluded, quality woodland location with unhindered access to the woodland, yet such close proximity to Inverness. Dog owners especially have commented what a holiday it was for their dogs too! Visiting dogs will now benefit from a gate on the terrace steps - so they can now lie out on the terrace and soak up the sights and smells of the forest unhindered. We encourage Red squirrels, Pine martens, Pheasants and Hedgehogs (amongst other wildlife) to share the 12 acre woodland too. We ask guests to drive slowly through the site, primarily for the safety of other guest's children (who may also be using the woodland access track) and to encourage resident and visiting wildlife. Dog owners are in for a treat here, with fantastic forestry commission walks to explore on their doorstep, and days at the beach just a stone’s throw away!

What a fantastic place, so relaxing and quiet, Cabins are excellent quality, well thought out, whilst Heron Lodge is close to it's neighbour Moorhen Lodge you don't know it's there nicely secluded by trees and banks.. Comfortable bed, with ensuite shower and adjacent family bathroom, all very clean. Kitchen is open plan to living room and has everything you need, septic tank friendly products provided for dishwasher and washing machine. All in all a lovely place in lovely surroundings close enough to Inverness for the shops etc, but far enough away to not know it's there. Will we go back YES
