With exceptional views overlooking Ben Wyvis, it’s no surprise this highland retreat caught our eye. Inside, all the cottage-core elements are ticked off – think roaring fireplace and a freestanding bathtub. But there are some modern-day surprises here, too. Once owned by the renowned Pop Art creator, Gerald Laing, his paintings and sculptures add a touch of modernity to the home. There's also a sunroom extension to take in the views, whatever the weather. You’ll need a car to get around to Inverness and beyond. Although with Kinkell Castle, sleepy Conon Bridge village and highland hikes all just a few minutes' drive, nothing feels too far away.
Home truths: *Due to the setting of the cottage next to a large pond, it's not suitable for small children. However, babies in arms are welcome.

*Due to the location of this home, you'll need a car to make the most of your stay, and there is parking outside.

*Although not photographed, there is a small outside terrace with a barbecue.
