You're sure to be instantly enchanted by the blue-tiled facade of this historic building – we know we were – and that traditional charm continues inside. Follow the winding staircase up to the third floor and you'll find a cosy, light-filled apartment waiting for you. Apple red French doors open onto the sweet balcony, which grants you sweeping views across Porto's rooftops and more of that pretty Portuguese tile. It's the perfect spot to indulge in an alfresco breakfast or savour a glass of vinho verde as the sun goes down – if you're anything like us, you'll spend every spare second out here, drinking in the scenery. Although the kitchenette is compact and the bathroom is on the smaller side, we didn't mind – there's still a good amount of space to get comfortable, and the minimal, boho-chic design is a palate cleanser after a busy day exploring. Speaking of, this neighbourhood is a trendy area full of independent bars, cafes, and restaurants. You'll find plenty of charming squares nearby to have a drink in, and several of Porto's main attractions are within walking distance – namely Clérigos Tower (twelve minutes on foot), Livraria Lello bookstore (a ten-minute stroll) and the Cais da Ribeira (twenty-five minutes away). If sightseeing, shopping and dining are on your to-do list, we think this is the ideal locale for you.

Home truths
While there's room for two on the sofa bed, we think it's a better fit for one guest
There’s no elevator, so this flat isn't suitable for those with limited mobility – there are almost sixty stairs to climb
The bedroom is an interior room with no window – the French doors look into the living area but there are black-out blinds for privacy
There's no washing machine – the nearest laundromat is a five-minute walk away
The entertainment options are limited and the TV is a PC screen – that said, you'll probably spend most of your time exploring the city
The building's entrance is shared with other residents
A car isn't needed here – instead of driving, explore on foot
A kettle and toaster aren't provided for your stay
