If you want to stay in the heart of Lisbon's charming old town, then this apartment is a great choice. It's a petite home located in a 200-year-old building that has been meticulously updated to please modern travellers. The ingenious use of space means that this studio has room for a dining table, kitchen, and a hangout spot by the window. There's even a tiny balcony offering incredible views across the orange rooftops of Alfama right over to the River Tagus. Outside, you can explore this neighbourhood's famously winding streets. It still feels very much like a village, and getting lost in the alleyways is part of the fun – that's how you find the best local restaurants and bars. The Sé Cathedral is only a ten-minute walk away, and three more minutes will bring you to Praça do Comércio. Don't forget to take a ride on one of the iconic streetcars too – there are several stops just a few minutes walk away.

About Alfama
As Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhood, it’s not surprising that Alfama is also the corner of the city with the most character. Here, you’ll get an authentic taste of the real Portugal, away from the tourist-trodden trails of the centre. Unlike most of Lisbon, this area survived the famous 1755 earthquake, preserving an image of the old capital. Steep, cobbled streets are flanked with down-to-earth cafés, crumbling churches and intimate fado venues...
Explore the area
Local restaurants, cafes, museums, sites and activities, recommended by our community of hosts and travel experts
Enjoy the stunning view at Miradouro de Santa Luzia
One of Lisbon's many viewpoints that offer stunning views of the old centre, Santa Luzia is famous for it’s azulejo blue and white tiles and trailing purple bougainvillaea.
Explore Lisbon Cathedral
One of the oldest cathedrals in Lisbon, with unique exhibits and beautiful interior. Not crowded, allowing for a peaceful visit. Rebuilt multiple times in different architectural styles due to earthquakes.
Listen to genuine Fado music at Casa de Linhares
Fado singing can be traced back to the 1820s. Enjoy its intense and passionate tones in the remains of an eighteenth-century building that once belonged to the Counts of Linhares.
Enjoy the view from Castelo de São Jorge
The Castle and its walls have been protecting the city from invaders for many centuries. It is a great spot for taking photos of Lisbon's historical centre.
Learn at the Museu do Fado
With audiovisual displays and impressive archives, plus a cafe with concerts, Museu do Fado explores the tradition and cultural history of the country.
Dine out in a Circus School at Chapitô
This social project circus art school dedicated to young people also has a great restaurant and bar. You can even catch a performance or concert whilst you're there!
Enjoy a secret view from Miradouro do Recolhimiento
A hidden viewpoint with a small children's park where you can hide from the busy streets around the Castle.
Brunch down a secret side street at Quase Café
Quase café is tucked away down one of Alfama’s rambling streets and serves a selection of brunch combos as well as home-made fresh juices.
Take part in a jam session at Tejo Bar
An old and famous bar that often has local musicians playing. If you're feeling inspired, you can grab an instrument and let your inner artists out!
Sample Portuguese ice cream at Gelateiro d'Alfama
The Gelateiro d’Alfama produces artisan gelato in-house - but if you're not a fan of ice cream, they'll win you over with coffees and cakes.
Pay tribute at Calçada de Amalia
In a tiny park close to Portas del Sol, there's a beautiful mosaic dedicated to one of the greatest fado singers of all time– Amalia Rodrigues.
Start the day with Augusto Lisboa's delicious brunch
We only hear great things about this cosy cafe that serves sweet and savoury brunches. They operate under the motto 'better food, better mood'– and we couldn't agree more.

Host
This home is managed by Adelaide
This home is managed directly by a business. A member of their staff will be your point of contact before and during your stay. Adelaide and her team look after a fair number of flats around the city. As there are several of them, it’s possible you’ll come across one of her colleagues, rather than Adelaide herself, but whoever it is, you’re in good hands.
