There is but one sand dune between you and the sea here. In fact, you can sink your toes into the soft sand straight from the private terrace and be paddling in the ocean in two minutes. This home sits on the outskirts of Ouddorp, on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee. A seven-minute drive (or half-hour walk) sees you in the town’s centre for grocery shops, cafés and restaurants. Or, stick around in the holiday resort and explore the old dune landscape, pause for fresh seafood in the beach restaurant, and rent bikes and boards from the surf shop. There are playgrounds for little ones too and a natural swimming pool in the summer months.

The home itself is surrounded by wooden decking, which leads straight onto the dunes. There’s enough room for the group to dine out here, beneath the sail-like shade. The open living area is breezy and beachy with sand-dune prints on the wall and a seafoam-blue wall. Huge walls of glass and sliding doors flood the place with sunlight during the day, especially in the sleek, modern kitchen. There’s dining for the whole group and a breakfast bar for a casual morning coffee.
