With a private terrace overlooking the Arsenale Canal, this petite apartment is perfect for those looking for a romantic stay in Venice’s historic Castello district. There’s no boat traffic along this stretch of the canal, and the awning over the outdoor dining set means alfresco treats can be enjoyed whatever the weather. Beamed ceilings and large windows add old-world charm inside, and the sliding door separating the bedroom from the living area means a bit more privacy should the sofa bed be used. While the kitchenette is small, there are plenty of restaurants nearby. And with the city’s iconic sights – including St Mark’s Square – reachable on foot or by water bus, culture seeking is as easy as can be.

Home truths

This home is on the second floor with no lift access – the stairs are quite steep, so it may not be suitable for those with reduced mobility

The bedroom can be separated from the living area by sliding doors

The private terrace has an awning for variable weather conditions

There's no desk here but the dining table can double up as a laptop-friendly workspace

The kitchenette is compact and better suited to light bites

About Castello

Castello represents a cluster of islands at the eastern edge of Venice’s centre. It’s a quieter side of Venice, without too many tourists. All this changes, however, during the Biennale. This behemoth of the art world takes place in odd-numbered years, and is housed in the former shipyards that give the quarter its name. When the exhibition isn't on, you’ll find museums and ornate churches to explore, and an abundance...
