Cutting an imposing figure in the Umbrian countryside, this stone-built house has been standing since the 12th Century, but it today functions as a retreat for big groups wanting to explore the other side of the Tuscan border. Original features appear alongside rustic furnishings – the latter might not be for everyone as it can feel a little dated, but the place is plenty comfortable and spacious. The large manicured garden, private pool and ample seating are welcome additions, but the countryside views are the real draw. There are plenty of towns within driving distance, and the closest shop is 6km away.
Home truths: *We suggest hiring a car for ease – there's parking for up to eighty cars. A helipad is also available. *As there are stairs to climb, it might not be the best option for those with reduced mobility. *The swimming pool – available for use between end April and the beginning of October – isn't fenced. If you're bringing little ones, they'll need supervision. *The bedrooms are split across the two units that make up this accommodation. Three of the double bedrooms have additional single beds and might not feel the most private. The air-conditioning only reaches the bedrooms. *The traditional decor here might not be to everyone's taste. It feels a little dated in parts. *You may hear traffic noise. Light sleepers should pack earplugs.
