Like a step back in time, this 18th-century villa is steeped in history, charm and decadence. It's filled to the brim with a mix of Italian and English antiques, sporting traditional white-washed beams and original terracotta floors all the way through. You'll find sumptuous beds, old-world artwork, panoramic windows and elegant chandeliers in every room, but the best one is by far the lavish main suite, which has a separate sitting room, a huge fireplace and an en-suite bath with a sensational rolltop tub. Outside, the garden is a thing of beauty – imagine fresh lavender, blooming flowers and climbing roses around every corner. And the views? Incredible, especially from the terrace, where you can share a bottle of Tuscan wine as the sun dips below the valley. Spend sunny days alternating between lounging in the sunshine and swimming in the heated pool, followed by an alfresco barbecue around the outdoor table as the night rolls in. When you fancy exploring, Montone is only a short drive away, but we suggest heading just a bit further to Perugia – forty-five minutes by car – for excellent restaurants, historic walking routes, lively bars and plenty of shopping.

About Perugia

In the heart of picturesque Umbria, the walled city of Perugia radiates history down every winding cobbled alleyway. Sitting atop a hill, streets stacked on top of each other are crowned at the tip with the jutting spire of Piazza IV Novembre with its ancient Cathedral. Fontana Maggiore, an ornate fountain is at the heart of the square which once buzzed with medieval merchants and monks. Follow the narrow streets...
