Directly between the Duomo and the Basilica di San Lorenzo, Oak Cask is in a really special position. You’ll have to put up with the tourists outside, but that’s the case everywhere in Florence, and it really shouldn’t cause you to pass up the chance to stay here. On top of the location, we also really liked the terrace – there’s enough furniture on it to eat alfresco, and as it faces west, it’s perfect for long evenings outside.
Home truths: *As is common in Florence, there's no lift in the building, so you'll have to take the stairs
*The wall between the main bedroom and the living room doesn't go all the way up to the ceiling, so sound travels between the two
*We weren't able to test the wi-fi when we visited
*The second bedroom can get a bit dark, and it's too small to have a bedside table or reading light
