Inside, the sleek and contemporary touches really caught our eye, as well as the sociable chef's kitchen which is ideal for preparing lunches to be enjoyed out on the private terrace – equipped with comfy chairs and an outdoor dining area, it's a lovely spot for enjoying the warm Sicilian sunshine. When you're ready to explore, historical landmarks such as the Cathedral of Palermo are a short walk away, as well as plenty of traditional restaurants and wine bars.

*The apartment is spread over multiple floors with no lift. You'll have to climb steep internal stairs.
*The terrace is overlooked by neighbouring buildings so it lacks privacy, though we still think it's a lovely space.

*If you're staying more than a couple of days, you'll need to buy additional basic provisions.
*We recommend skipping the car here and exploring Sicily on foot or by public transport instead.
